Are you bringing your Monique?
-
I liked that.

Sooo I sent @Frank Blank a PM and he asked if I was coming to this... TBH I hadn't even considered it... but I think I should be able to! First time at one of these things so you'll need to be nice. I'll bring the green walkabout and whatever basses folk are interested to try... Sadowsky will lee / Warwick 1991 Streamer with Barts and ACG preamp / G&L L1000 1982 / Homemade 2 MM pup Stingray-Jazz-P like thing

Well John is right!
-
BTW how are you outgrowing your current setup? I would look at using IEM. - if not for everyone then just the musicians where it would make the difference to bringing your foldback needs and volume down.
-
I would doubt me. Seriously - I don't know what I'm talking about.

A few years back I worked out that a secondhand alto powered speaker was the cheapest way to get my hands on a secondhand eminence 3012ho for a cab I never got around to planning the build for. Their poweramps back then used the same Powersoft class D modules as my Tecamp puma I had at the time... however treat all the above as internet hearsay
-
Alto seem to be an odd brand, if you end up on German language PA sites there’s loads of folk who have taken them apart and they seem to have sometimes used fairly high end components in them

We need to have naming convention here... - like I think this is v1 basschat cab... v2 was Steve’s with a tweeter and v3 had the nicer horn and the faital driver. so if you add a tweeter is that v1.1 or v4? not sure what else you could name them after, Apple did big cats then Californian nature ... what is a bass players UK equivalent?

Has anyone read the Darrin Huff thread on Talkbass?
LukeFRC replied to Stacker's topic in General Discussion
Do you think most of the guys would take a “it’s got one cost of tru-oil on it - have it and finish it yourself now, over wait 3 years for me to finish them” -
B&O Icepower is as close to industry standard as you'll get, they also have a good reputation for reliability which is why they are chosen by so many manufacturers (so talkbass told me). From my understanding , most Class D stuff isn't really designed to be repairable as it's so much more complex technology. (hence why most amp companies don't develop their own amp modules) Mind you my tech was telling me that a lot of older solid state amps use obsolete MosFets, and that I should find an all valve amp to buy...

What's a universal component?

There’s a fella near me who has the most amazing preEB stingray in root beer colour. I’ve not played a more ‘alive’ bass - he wants more for it than I can justify but if I won the lottery that I don’t enter.... that and an El toro
-
Gareth - you have a constantly surprising selection of amazing looking basses. Honestly everyone has their own taste and people like what they like but I'm amazed that you've never once shown a photo of something that I haven't gone "crikey that's nice, I'ld like that". @ped - initially found your post on Talkbass and was interested in your search for flats. Tempted to stick flats on the L1000 which will be the first time I've tried flats. Pricey thing to try lots of things though. TI flats seem to be well regarded.
-
Did not know that. It’s a great bass (similar finish wear too). You taking yours to the midlands bass bash? Tempted to go and would be interesting to compare
-
Original G&L (not original SB-1 as they could be different ?) but I’m getting 21-22mm diameter on my 82 L1000
-
You want the size of the original original ones? Can get that for you this eve if you want

If it’s a Warwick punch you’re trying to get the preamp points are: MEC 2-band Bass: 100 hz Treble 2.5K hz MEC 3-band Bass: 100 hz Mid: 800 hz Treble: 8.5K hz i think someone meantioned you had a helix - see if you can eq in the punch - I’ve done this recorded my Warwick bass straight to jack and then used GarageBand to try and recreate some of how the preamp is working. Playing with a boost at that 100hz point and the 2.5k for me, got me into the right kinda territory for a typical Warwick sound
-
might be the preamp - the eq points are quite different to a lot of others and it seems to have a compressed character to it.

Epiphone Thunderbird - disuade me, please. TONESTYLER and SANDBERG CONTENT

Onboard bass pre-amps - what turns your EQ on?
LukeFRC replied to Al Krow's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've got two starting point questions... You play a load of jazz basses in the shop... when you pick up the precision does it feel good not to have to think about the controls much cos it's only got two of them. If yes.... go for simplicity. So you go and drop £150 on a fancy boutique pedal, and it doesn't work for you... well you can turn it off easily. You can't with preamps. It's a ballache if you're one of those who can fit them yourself or an expense if your tech is fitting them. So know what you're trying to achieve before you try and to achieve it. -

agree. I've written before about how a two band Glockenklang, and a Warwick Streamer Sg 1 are the most useless combination of things I've ever held in my hands. So it does matter. I love a buffered active blend. John East does them. My `Streamer has a John East designed ACG EQ-01 in it. 4 stacked pots though - I've had to learn the discipline of not fiddling. The original 2 band stingray preamp is an interesting design - no pots before the preamp and the volume pot controls the output amplifier of the preamp. Clever Leo. Current fave bass is a Sadowsky metro Will Lee. I like that preamp very much. Simple, easy to use. Turn the thing off and boost what you need (if you need). -
I used Howard for a pickguard in jan. TBH I half remembered something had happened but went with him anyway. Did a good job and done quickly. While I feel for the OP .... If the fella did have a breakdown and everything all went wrong.... and then if he's getting back on his feet and earning a living by making the odd pick guard... that's not a bad thing for the fella. Though annoying for the OP. Which I get.
