Does it sound like a jazz too?
  3. Sexism in music is a whole other topic...
  4. I had come from a indie pop band and had the shocking idea of playing quavers with the odd passing note. That church’s band was not Prepared for that...
  5. The truss rod cover was a very early and very expensive way they designated either custom instruments or ones for special players (eg jack Bruce). It’s a massive slab Of mother of Pearl and goodness knows how much the materials would have cost. so factory fitted early “custom” bass - what we think is custom (we being John me and HP wilfer via email) is the pickups and bridge saddles. it’s a lightweight one, under 9lb as John said and for a short horn one (“I designed it wrong” HPF wilfer told me) it balances well. the tone is amazing, bell like Piano tones which is a bit more open and less compressed that a typical Thumb bass - which makes it a bit more versatile. It was my ultimate dream bass and I only sold it as I was playing my other Warwick more regularly in the band.
  6. Just randomly listened to my old bands recordings for the first time in year. I really want a '57ri precision again.

    1. gjones

      gjones

They do sit nicely in the mix.

  7. I hmm I loved the wood on my old Thumb co incidentally if anyone wants to owns this bass warwickhunt is currently selling it...
  8. "You just need to play the root notes, and only four times per bar."
  9. American brand/maker everyone likes on Talkbass this month is infinitely better than the equivalent brand/maker from the UK
  10. At the start of this, for some reason I got into my head this was a simple clamp you were building!!
  11. And that’s before pedal GAS hits
  12. And then you will add a vt bass Di or equivalent For the Di capability I’ve spent £440 odd already With no connecting cables, no footswitchable drive HX stomp is £470 and will do way more... is smaller and fits in the front of a gig bag...
  13. HX stomp - everything you will need plus - the same for guitar if you need - interface - no need for a pedal board or power supply - by the time you‘be got them, a tuner and 3-4 other pedals it’s probably not even the expensive option.
  14. Stupid low price for such a good amp
  15. Didn’t think you did, but there’s enough folk who like nothing more than moaning about barefaced and don’t want to give them the chance to start!
  16. If the BB2 (and the BB1 and Big One) before it was that flat and uncoloured as possible sound and as big a frequency range as possible. then putting the speaker in a smaller box and not having a horn is going to change the response and not be as big range... as you can hear! The smaller box chops of the top and bottom of the sound in a way I really don't like. I've currently got one of Stevie's BCCab which has the same objectives of going for FRFR, I've owned ACME B2 before that which did the same (and were what Alex used before he started building his own) so I love my raw sound. The SC does not give me that. Now for balance, so it doesn't come across like I'm Barefaced bashing: in the mix for a lot of people the SC might work better, esp for rock/pop/indie stuff, there's a mid punch to cut through, no lows to mess with the kick drum and no tweeter will be better for OD and distorted sounds.
  17. The SC sounds like some Barefaced cabs I have tried. I absolutely hate that sound! The 210 is the most interesting sounding cab there, I think they are really nice sounding and do a modern take on vintage really well. The big baby is the cab I would buy if I bought a barefaced, big clean sound. Use my helix to add a cab sim (or ir, or eq) and It will reproduce the tone of other rigs. Yes it makes me want a P bass too! It would be interesting to hear the BCCab and BB2 side by side.
  18. Change the resonant frequency on the pickups
  19. Recommended seller and highly recommended bass.
  20. I’m not going to judge, but yes, yes it is
  21. So you’re playing one of Nates old basses through his old amp?
  22. do you still work in the basement?
  23. It’s nice to have talented friends who do things like this. (My contribution was handwriting and a bit of design .) Internet stalking suggests the bass player may be @golltoppr who is on here
  24. so about £1800 plus taxes/import... around £2.25k all in? Cheaper than fender custom shop!
