I heard that there was a covid outbreak in the sorting office where Andy lives. No post for a couple of weeks

My take... there wasn't really much wrong with the bass, just a few things that needed attention. The builder is a bit brusque and not good at customer service. The buyer started a conversation starting like he was looking for things to complain about, builder probably reacted to that. I'm sure he's had buyers like that before, get £50 for some small scratch and then find a million more things they want rectified... The buyer is actually happy with the bass except for a few things. The builder is still not good at customer service. It all esculates on Basschat to the point where the buyer and the builder having a mature conversation about what would sort it out isn't possible. €100 back for crack in the nitro when it arrives is probably fair... if not the buyer would need to say what would be. This thread, and language/culture problems means that that conversation probably doesn't happen. Builder is still not good at customer service, and annoyed about this thread. My take is that if the buyer and builder both spoke the same language this whole thing probably wouldn't have happened. Some of the subtly is being lost. Blunt german/polish comes across as ruder than it would be in german, spanish into english also looses some of its preciseness. I wonder too if the builder has ended up growing too quickly, and has got to the point where he needs customer service help. They seem to have a business model based around a user customisable custom shop - when he was selling a £800 bass the quality difference people expect is different to a £2000 bass. But from the builders POV the £1k of extra options prob isn't adding much to the profit. He's seeing it as a £800 that people are choosing to spend more on to get fancy pickups etc.

Sounds Just like Gala @NikNik

they were a big chunk cheaper when WoT bought his first one at the start too. I don't think he spent £2k like the OP

So he’s not making them himself then?

Help needed --- Mesa Strategy Eight:88 power transformer
LukeFRC replied to tvickey's topic in Amps and Cabs
@tvickey - my Walkabout transformer went pop about 3 years back (no slight on the transformer, it was 20 years old) - Westside and Mesa sent me to a local mesa approved tech - David Gaffrey (01924 267142) Based in Ossett near Wakefield (so not a billion miles away from you) who was very good. If Westside send you his way you are in good hands. -
A great choice

Cheapest electric bass on Thomann = £89 Cheapest Oboe on Thomann = £1390 (though I do agree with the sentiment)

My band back a while now was a 6 piece, toy keyboard, synth, trumpet, drum machine, loops, guitar and bass and about 3 or 4 vox. We were lucky in that we went straight from the starter gigs too fairly good venues with nice PA systems and good sound people. (Since then mainly christian/church stuff to various sizes.) The main questions are - what's providing the FOH sound and what can that do, and how much stage volume do you want. I've always been taught, and am of the opinion that as low as possible stage volume is the ideal. So enough volume to hear myself over however loud the drummer is. I'ld take a PA wedge over a bass amp given the choice. BUT that's presuming the PA is good enough to play the low end. It's also not very rock and roll, or suitable for everyone. Go onto talkbass for instance and there seems to be a lot more venues, but more emphasis on bass players taking their rig and it has to carry the whole venue.

corrected it for you! I agree though, if you've got a bass cab designed for a fairly flat response. Barefaced BB2 is by far the best thing on the market in that respect IMO. It depends on the circumstance. Some swear on their RCF and I don't want to contradict their experience but the K12.2 that frank black has would kick out enough low end for me, as the gigs I play and have played have been in venues with PA support that can take the bass.

I’ve just been playing it and it’s phenomenal. ive played a few of his preamps and this is the second I’ve owned - I think he might be the only UK bassed bass manufacturer who is world leading in his field EDIT: Plus status for graphite? -

So update time (for @Richard R if no one else) So you might have noticed the "might sell this and get a Precision" vibe in the previous posts, to be honest that was what was on my mind for a while. I had got more or less used to the 5th string, was starting to change my playing style to suit it and was quite enjoying it. The bass though I was struggling with. It was like it had a eq on it with finger style where the low mids got massively boosted, and the high mids and some of the top end disappeared. I know these pickups are supposed to be 'dark', but theres something in that which should suit my playing style, not loose the definition. Interestingly pick and slap (neither of which I'm great at) sounded great. Very odd. I started looking at precision basses. While I did that the Lakland was sat beside me as I worked. Every so often I've been picking it up to play, and it plays amazingly. It just feels perfect. Unplugged I was liking the bass more and more. Experimenting I also found that if I cut the top end I liked the sound passive too (though it is low output). So the problem seemed to be the preamp... Way's to fix it #1: Turn the gain up inside... this meant that the high mids came back. Seems almost obvious! So this meant I could get it sounding good. BUT generally the treble control was fine, the bass control cut was fine, the boost made it flabby. And I was having problems with the mid control... any cut was fine but seemed to cut too much of it's musical tone, and any boost seemed to be what was needed but to my ears at least seemed to be adding loads of harmonic overtones and made the sound really "wide" Way's to fix it #2: I just stuck a East Uni Pre in it. I need to fiddle a bit more - but it sounds awesome. Why every preamp doesn't have a passive tone control as well I don't know!
