Even if you ‘know’ more expensive doesn’t mean better It’s easy to forget And be swayed by expensive shiny things. I do it all the time.
-
No, I think the bad ones are due to the construction/finish in my opinion. a dead sounding Bass acoustically isn’t going to become more resonant by changing hardware in most cases.
-
Also I’ve played a lot of fender mex. some of them have been amazing, some awful. Equally I’ve played some Insepid USA stuff ...
-
Mexican bass is good enough for that fella in Vulfpeck... Honestly though, by the time you’ve speced and bought some custom pickups and had them put in it, it’s not going to sound much worse than the US one is it?
-
They used to use Schaller custom bring hardware, from memory they switched to using their own alloy non solid brass stuff around 1992

hello from West Yorkshire too!

And it doesn’t now?! love that Rochester comp

see this is what Basschat is great for... not just chat, but equipment reviews based on real life usage... AND a picture showing the emotional response to using the gear!

it seems level here. I wonder if it took a slight knock in postage and the neck has moved a bit - would also explain the stress cracks to the finish you showed.

So - the government has issued a paper here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-for-the-safe-use-of-places-of-worship-from-4-july/covid-19-guidance-for-the-safe-use-of-places-of-worship-from-4-july with guidance - it’s up to the legal leadership of the church (or denomination) to decide how to interpret this. IE the worship team can’t just decide to start playing as the churches trustees would need to sign off on the plan and risk assessments. For some church groups Elim for example they have their own guidance on how to interpret the rules... our building mean Sunday gatherings are not safe, additionally having worship with only one person singing seems pointless - so we are planning on bands of three all spacing out and sticking the singer behind the drum screen. I’m not allowed to sing along (probably a good thing) - to be honest, it will be nice to play again, but not overjoyed of the idea of there being a permanent record of it!
-
@Sibob - what do you perceive the differences to be tonally and while playing? I guess if we're all here going "they sound really similar", do you agree, and how will you be using them both?
-
that was good to hear. listened with headphones, and then went and got my fancy studio monitor cans to hear even better... to my ears the '71 is fatter in the bottom, which makes it a wee bit more flabby. the Moollon sounds more even string to string and is slightly more punchy... all of which could be down to the age of the strings!

+1 looks normal to me. It looks like what I expect a quality nitro finish to look like. I’m convinced the matt fender style nitro is as much about saving the cost of polishing, and risk of possible rub through than anything else.
-
Check - but I think you can record inside the building As long as all the risk assessments are done, you are socially distanced and only one person sings. i think we’re planning on playing and streaming live

-
So the next question is... what you building with it?
-
Anything Yamaha will be quality and good value for money

I would have thought that would have worked quite well soundwise

nutool or something., made in Doncaster I think... but someones stuck a new 240v motor on the back. I needed to drill 30 really accurate holes in a banister - at the time I only had a plug in SDS drill so the argument was that buying that pillar drill for £75 or whatever was worth it as it would still be worth that much when I didn't need it. It's nice though! Putting it in the car was fun, we put the stand in first so it was just behind the drivers seat - hadn't considered the fact that that left most the weight hanging off behind the rear axle ... a very odd drive accross Bradford ensued.

that's actually a really sad story Dr Das pulled it off for Asian Dub Foundation
-
I got my bench finished yesterday... no clamps though... Upcycling Ikea unit for the drawers
-
And here starts your career as a YouTuber ...

I’ve done that before. Been miming some crazy flea impression with the bass off....playing with my teeth....“can you turn it down”
