[/quote] Badass have been making bridges since the early 70s, and they were a common retrofit on Rickenbackers, then P-Basses, then it peaked in the early 80s.

I haven't decided if its a he or a she, it will probably bite my arm off if I try to categorise it. Theses a bizarre hum sometimes that sounds like "dont puuuush me!" I am toying with the idea of bastardising a spare transmitter and fitting it internally where the bridge pickup currently lives (with a false pickup cover over it, or maybe just a load of grotty looking gaffa tape would look more in keeping with the nature of this beast). This means it can run from a bigger battery, and makes it switchable from o/p socket so theres less chance of killing the batteries by knocking the on/off switch! I get bored carrying 4 different types of batteries in my gig case.

You'll probably get shot down by some people for bad habits, but if it works for you, stick with it. Having said that, it would be good to try alternating fingers for a few minutes each day, if only to get some speed on the bottom E so you can do 16ths, something you can't really do comfortably with your thumb.

I keep my minters mint, and buy sh*tters to play live and/or abuse. If I buy a used £1000 bass off Ebay for 300 quid thats had the crap kicked out of it already, then I have no qualms about continuing to kick the crap out of it myself, changing the pups, modding it, respraying it, who gives a toss, the damage is done by someone else, and I am just adjusting the "non-mintness" to my own specs. You would freak if you saw the state of my XM2, it is absolutely trashed to pieces doesn't even have any binding left, rewired, resprayed badly in black car paint and badly applied graphic front, but OMG its a fantastic player and still a USA Steinberg underneath all the various grot. It also sounds fantastic, its my main bass at the moment. I DO keep it clean though, +1 about sweat buildup, eww. I do all my own setups etc, and my own sweat is bad enough, let alone when I used to do it for a living!

If I get the time, I will make a couple of these up, then offer one to Twickerman to replace the one he doesn't need, and one to SS73 so he can wind himself up WIN!

Unfortunately, this IS genuine. Paypals draconian new rules mean that sellers (again) are automatically in the wrong until they have a certain number of transactions under their belts, and yes, they do hold funds from the seller until positive feedback is left, or several weeks have passed without any claims being made against the seller. This means until you leave feedback, or let weeks pass, the seller will NOT receive any money from the transaction. Paypal protecting the buyer at the cost of the sellers rights, as usual. GO FOR CASH IN HAND EVERY TIME!

3x jack sockets, .0047u cap, hammond style metal box, neutrik TRS plug and 2m of cable. Total cost £11, labour 20 minutes. Rub in the magic snake oil and add vintage looking logo. Result £79. I shall look into making identical units, advertise them on ebay, and wait for the insults to start flying when they claim I have "stolen their design". I hasten to use the word "stupidity" lest I annoy the mods, but really...

He could have cleaned it before posting 100 photos of it on the net That fingerboard is filthy. Nice bass for 165 though, someone got a bargain.

Its either staying in 13/8 and going out of time with itself (likely) or Phil's trying to do something clever and fudging it (likely) but its wonderfully confusing listening to Genesis after Phil decided to try his hand at Jazz Fusion. CARDIACS - It's A Lovely Day Nice example of 15/16 in the intro.

The over-dark photos and lack of description are offputting, especially as you can see the back of the bass looks (imho) pretty rough in the light reflections in the second photo. Is he a crap photographer, or is he trying to hide something?

Heres a little something I rebuilt and refinished several years ago (when Watchman was cool the first time round) I wonder where it is, and if the current owner has refinished it?

There are plenty of Rick fanatics who are stupid enough to pay 100 quid for a stereo/mono splitter box as long as it has Rickenbacker stamped on it. To be fair, what if it said "ALEMBIC" on it? or "WAL"?

Bearing in mind the plate on the Stingray 5 holds all the electrics (and they have to be removed to change it), thats about as close to the wiring as you can get, so it MUST have been noticed, or done afterwards. The way I see it is unless Kevin did the dodgy wiring himself, then the fault may partially lie with Lowfer (JD wouldn't have done that). The fault could easily "develop" if the wiring is sellotaped instead of soldered. The old advert for the bass mentions John Diggins changing the plate while in Kevins ownership, so I am surprised this wasnt brought up in conversation with Kevin and JD, so I think Kevin knew all along, and just let it go as is. Somethings wrong here, JD wouldn't have let a bass out like that without telling the owner, and/or offering to mend the wiring. Rewiring a Stingray aint exactly rocket science...
