I played my first (and last so far) Sandberg about 13 years ago at GuitarGuitar in Epsom. I was so excited and expected to love it, but it was just "meh". I gave a couple of them a go (P, J, PMM etc.). I went home with a Sadowsky Metro Jazz, which absolutely defied expectations and has been my main bass since then.

I think Roger Sadowsky explained it in a way that I understood the best. If an instrument feels like it resonates more/less, will the audience hear it? Probably not, but it will affect how you play it, and that effect the audience will hear. If something feels nice and resonant, maybe I will be a bit more dynamic with my playing. Does that resonance make it out of the amp? Probably not, but my change in playing will, which I might then (possibly mistakenly, depending on your interpretation of the explanation) attribute to the resonance of the bass

Lobster said it's a solid bass, but the B string is below average - above average electronics with some not great build quality; unfortunately at that price range build quality tends to be a bit hit or miss from bass to bass

The problem you're going to face is that video also has distortion, as well it being slapped - you'll probably struggle to make even her exact bass sound like the video without those things! I would go for the Squier, as it's a 5 string jazz, so whilst not the same as her Sadowsky, it's going to get you in the ball park

Please post your new bass once you get it

Hard pass. Unless the backing track is doing something that requires doubling, I would ask to remove the bass track or I'm not doing it

Active 5 string workhorse - share your opinions!

It's at the top of your budget and doesn't have humbuckers, but I think it would serve your purposes well: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/508040-xotic-xj-1t-5-sonic-blue-price-drop-£2000/ -
I am also keen to get an answer on this one. I'm always concerned about the original power supply being the point of failure
-
I'm glad you got it, the rapid price descent on it got my wallet worried!
-
Exactly. Stuff designed for lowest-common-denominator listening sells well because that's what it's designed for. Excellent independent music exists and is more varied than ever, and finding it hard never been easier.

With mine, I have one simple "basic good sound" patch that I always start with. This is what I use when I'm practicing or just using it as an interface for recording. This stops me spending hours tweaking when I should be working on something else. The tweaking for me comes when I have a function/wedding set list to get together. For instance, we were asked for Pink Pony Club on a set, and I was able to get pretty close to the original bass synth sound with some funky routing. That just sits on a preset now for whenever I need it, without having to worry about adding/removing pedals or doing some sort of tap dance to get everything in place

Damn I would be in my glory at a only Bass anything

If people keep calling you a Nazi, maybe it's time for some introspection... -
People seem to forget that USA Spector are a proper boutique, much like F bass, Ken Smith, or Fodera. They've just managed to capitalize on their success much better

Sorry, my dry humour once again appears to have been too dry

That's just a feature of all 5 string MusicMans (MusicMen?). A G string you have to hold on to for dear life to stop it slipping off the frets!
-
I'm just trying to read it without having a stroke

Every now and again I miss my old Bongo, but I use the Spector so much more than I ever used the Bongo!

$699 will likely be something mad like £1,200

Seeing as Basswood is traditionally a cheap wood, it should be a no brainer?
-
I see he's got something in the works with Giacomo Turra. Not a fan of his mimed videos, but will be nice if it gets Jones some exposure
-
I mean, I would assume the person who made the video decided that. YouTube isn't a centralised service, it's user made content

Man those Alphers look so cool, I fully expect some recordings once you've got it!
