The carving on that bass is stunning

Psh, 32% is loads! We're not in danger until we hit single digits...

True, but even as someone from Guildford, I always enjoyed popping in when down there; they always had some more obscure stuff than Andertons (i.e. Phil Jones Bass amps)

Active 5 string workhorse - share your opinions!

That was essentially the whole deal with the original Japanese line. They were built by his protégé in Japan to stock specs, so you couldn't get a fancy top, or chambering (or other custom options), but were otherwise "off the shelf", hand built stock. I haven't tried the German Metro series (and I'm sure they are excellent too) but I do feel like they've lost a bit of the small boutique magic -
Share Your Embarrassing Early Recordings!

This is the earliest video I have if myself, about 18months into playing bass. I was 17 and obsessed with it and would regularly play/practice late into the night. I think I made more progress in those 18 months than I have in the last 18 years! -
I'm enjoying learning/transcribing No Way by Alain Caron:

Standard E and Standard Eb in the Same Set? - How Would You Do It?
Killerfridge replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
I think I would just go with the two bass option. I take a spare anyway, so just have one tuned to Eb and one to E standard -
The Spector Euro RSTs with Paulownia bodies are excellent, incredibly lightweight

I fear your actual insider knowledge is going to get lost here! Interested to know if it's "not currently taking orders" or "not taking any more orders ever"

MASSIVE HEADLINE - ANTHONY JACKSON IS HUMAN!!
Killerfridge replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
I'm fairly sure he either flubs a line, or plays a simplified version of some of the unison line somewhere near the start of Not Yet by Michel Camilo. Probably was a choice he made though, but still -
I think it's an argument to HMRC, they are the arbiters of this. Like I said, they look for these badges of trade, but it's not a hard and fast rule for any of them. I think ultimately they can chose to either believe him or no. Whilst he's not selling them cheap, it doesn't look like he's trying to "flip" them as such, just not selling at a loss
-
It's not about making profit or volume of sales (although they are elements of it). If you're buying something for your own personal use, and selling it once you're bored/want something else, you aren't liable for income tax even if you made a profit. HMRC look for "badges of trade" to make a decision as to whether you should be filing self assessment: https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/business-income-manual/bim20205 Assuming he's not just buying with the intent to sell, then he should be fine regardless of the throughput.

I think there's just a weird sense of entitlement around free shipping. Places like Anderton's and GAK can offer free shipping because of the volume of stuff they shift allowing them to get better rates with DPD et al. The minimum order is to make sure they are still profitable; because of the volume of sales they just need to be a little bit profitable and rely on huge volume to stay afloat. Somewhere like BD (and I don't pretend to know their numbers) I imagine it doesn't make sense to offer free shipping as it would just eat into their (again, not claiming to know, just a guess) fairly small profits

I think it's less about wanting something to sustain forever, and more that you don't want the the decay of the note to feel noticeably short (outside of intentional muting)

I played my first (and last so far) Sandberg about 13 years ago at GuitarGuitar in Epsom. I was so excited and expected to love it, but it was just "meh". I gave a couple of them a go (P, J, PMM etc.). I went home with a Sadowsky Metro Jazz, which absolutely defied expectations and has been my main bass since then.
-
I think Roger Sadowsky explained it in a way that I understood the best. If an instrument feels like it resonates more/less, will the audience hear it? Probably not, but it will affect how you play it, and that effect the audience will hear. If something feels nice and resonant, maybe I will be a bit more dynamic with my playing. Does that resonance make it out of the amp? Probably not, but my change in playing will, which I might then (possibly mistakenly, depending on your interpretation of the explanation) attribute to the resonance of the bass

Lobster said it's a solid bass, but the B string is below average - above average electronics with some not great build quality; unfortunately at that price range build quality tends to be a bit hit or miss from bass to bass
-
The problem you're going to face is that video also has distortion, as well it being slapped - you'll probably struggle to make even her exact bass sound like the video without those things! I would go for the Squier, as it's a 5 string jazz, so whilst not the same as her Sadowsky, it's going to get you in the ball park
