1. My little blues/soul combo will be doing our thing at the Cricks in Keighley tomorrow night (14/11/2014) from 9pm ish. Pop along and say hello if you're in the vicinity. Martin
2.
I thought he recorded his parts in 'is ohm studio?
Watt?
3. Singer-songwriter James Taylor started his career as wardrobe assistant to the Godfather of Soul.
4. We did in NZ as well.
5.
I use a waterproof Mono case these days, but in such situations I've put glad wrap all along the middle where the case opens: dry and fine!
Do I detect an antipodean?
6. A lot of Rolling Stones stuff, like 'em or loathe 'em, have excellent rhythm guitar, and excellent counter play between the two guitarists. For Rock'n'Roll stuff, try "Baby Blue" by Gene Vincent, or lots of stuff by Buddy Holly. I like The Five Royales as well - Lowman Pauling was a real innovator on electric guitar.
7. Almost anything by the Velvet Underground. Try "Rock and Roll" or "What Goes On".
8. I heartily recommend Marks and Spencers' range of flat caps. Always on stock, and always stylish.
9. There's a few photos, not many.
10. Its not light but someone is selling a GK 700 2x10 combo on here that is a lot of amp for the money and only a little bit above your budget.
11. It's a good book but as said above, quite depressing. Pretty much the complete antithesis of Alex James's book in its descriptions of life on the road. I've seen The Fall about 25 times since 1987, number 26 coming up at The Brudenell. Sadly though I never got to see Karl Burns play. Hanley remains my favourite Fall bass player by a mile.
12. I play two venues where the management passes round a bucket for contributions which we get on top of the comparatively small fee. It's never occurred to me to do it ourselves at other venues. Perhaps we should try it tonight at our Bikers Clubroom gig - last time they passed a bucket round for collections for one of their members who had just been sent down for a stretch at Her Majesty's pleasure, so they're familiar with the concept...

Paul is well known for his wise and humourous contributions to many a thread on Basschat. It transpires he's also an excellent man to do business with - I've just made a very small purchase from him and it's all been handled very well indeed, with excellent communications and prompt delivery. You can transact with Paul with absolute confidence. Martin
14. Our singer always introduces me as " the best bass player in his price range".

16. My PP18 ampmaker build is also very loud (but fantastic). He does a kit that reduces the voltage in his amps - see http://www.ampmaker.com/infocentre/thread-47.html It might be a suitable mod for your amp.
17. Anther gout sufferer here. Managed through diet and cutting down heavily on alcohol but still get the occasional flare-up - always in toes and ankles so far. My dietary management is complicated by other dietary-cuaing health problems (high BP, gallstones) it's amazing how many foods are supposed to be good for one complaint, but are discouraged for one or two of the others. Even water was on one of the "banned" lists! Dehyration is the most common cause of gout for me.
18. Nice one Michael, might have to make the effort in the absence of a Yorkshire one.
19. You're not a million miles away from DHA - not worth getting him to have a look for you?
20. Scoop by Evelyn Waugh is laugh out loud hilarious. The Tales of The City series by Armistead Maupin are funny/bittersweet.
21. But which is best for metal, D# or Eb?
22. Here a post that Pere Ubu put on facebook today about their rehearsal yesterday... "Nine hours spent yesterday recomposing the underscore for the French version of 'Carnival of Souls' and breaking in a new technology. During the one fifteen minute break the goals and objects of the current 10 year plan were outlined and the role of the 'Orange Period' summarized. Members present were forbidden to talk to the Americans in the group about it. The hegemony of bass and drums must be smashed for the good of mankind and the abomination that results from bass playe...rs and drummers obsessed with the notion that they must play together or that there is in fact any special relationship at all between bass, drums and the rhythm of a song. As discussed in the chapter 'Drums & The Modern Man' in the book 'Chinese Whispers,' even the term 'rhythm section' is a deception. The Singer and the Time Space continuum of the Song is the only rhythm section. Drastic measures may be required - first step may be to prevent the bass and drums from hearing each other. We'll see. Fortunately, Steve and Michele can handle anything thrown at them and excel."
23. Glad its working out for you. I'm reasonably happy but the Korg is nowhere near as good as my Sonic Research Turbu tuner.
24. I have a 3u rack case with my GK MB Fusion and a Korg PitchPro tuner. Into the case also goes my microphone, speaker cables (already connected to the amp), channel footswitch and even my guitar stand (one of those little wooden ones). Whilst I lose some of benefits of the lightweight amp, the convenience and protection to the gear are well worth it. To echo someone else's comment above, I'm not entirely convinced about using the PitchPro yet - both from having to turn my back to tune up, and also, frankly, it's just not as good a tuner as my Sonic Research, but again the convenience and practicality are winning me over. I have short power cables for the amp and tuner plugged into a two-way to which I've attached a short lead and power socket and velcroed to the inside of the case. I then use a standard kettle lead to run to power (kettle lead stays in the rack too),
