1.
Weirdly I prefer 4 strings and 6 strings to 5ers
You maybe have a hidden-undeveloped phobia of odd numbers, I believe that's why I can't get along with 4 or 6 strings...
 2. I actually prefer 5er's, part of it could be just because it's all I've played for maybe a year and a half but I prefer having the string spacing closer. A few times (generally if it required slapping) I've felt like more space between strings would be good but nothing some practice cant sort!
 3.
I use a pick and have never had any complaints over my playing. Surely what matters more is what the player is more comfortable using?
The way I see it is it's the sound that matters. Play the song with your cock for all I care, if it sounds good it sounds good! On that note, playing with your knob would be fairly impressive.
 4.
I can't play with a pick
Me neither, it's actually pretty funny watching me try, it's as if I suddenly lose all coordination between both hands
 5. I've never used a pick, I just Feel slightly limited when I use one (plus they hurt my hand/wrist). Justin Chancellor is a massive inspiration of mine and he uses a pick. Loads of great players use them just personally I don't enjoy using one. I think a lot of people just assume because they use one they can't play with fingers, which is just silly
 6.
Myung is decent.. haven't heard of the others. Can't stand the keyboards in early Dream Theater though.. ..sorry if I'm ignorant, but from what I've heard, most mainstream/semi mainstream metal has pretty simple bass.
I can see why people wouldn't be a big fan of Myung (I know I'm not). I will agree 100% about most mainstream metal is pretty simple, especially on bass. Check out 'Currency' by Evan Brewer. I would embed a link but I cant on my phone. It's a great song, at least to me it is, definetly a talented guy!
 7. Sheenan just hits notes as fast as possible in my mind (and in comparison to a lot of metal bands) isn't even close to being as fast. Never liked his playing in the slightest.
 8.
He's eleven? Sorry - I take it back, I though he was a [s]midget[/s] little person.
That makes me enjoy the "grow out of it" part of your original comment so much more.
 9.
-that guy in Korn -that guy in Avenged Sevefold -that guy in the Deftones (can't even hear him half the time) TL;DR pretty much every metal bassist besides the 2 from Tool..
John Myung? Ryan Martinie? Arif Mirabdolbaghi? Evan Brewer? Alex Webster? Metal has some insane talent! Arif and Ryan being the main two who's style stand out to me, should check them out if you haven't already, some brilliant basslines...
 10.
'xgsjx' timestamp Is that "B" or "Ab"? MB1. B.A Robertson?
I was thinking B.A Baracus...
 11. Shame he still can't sing though.
 12.
Not a glamour post, and there are thousands I've never tried, but... The fancier Ibanez SRs just look like loads of fun and sound great. I'd love a go - but would I be a brand snob... ?
I've never really played many 'boutique' basses (or basses in general for that matter! But I've played a fair amount of the higher end SR's and I really enjoyed them!
 13.
That made me laugh out loud. But then, this makes me fall off my chair laughing too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_UEHTVRUHE
I think I laughed at that more than I should have too.
 14. I've always really hated Cliff Burtons playing...
 15. I've played very little basses in all honesty. I've never really had the opportunity to play many. It's easier to list what I have played. Musician stingray 4 Ibanez (various of the SR models) Warwick Corvette $$ I really want to try a Warwick thumb but Ive got no way of trying one sadly
 16. Big question! In no particular order : Les Claypool Ryan Martinie Arif Mirabdolbaghi Justin Chancellor Nick Schendzielios James Leach Evan Brewer Juan Alderete Victor Wooten Can't think of his name but the bassist from Maximum the Hormone Then there's the obvious like Marcus Miller, Mark King etc. Les claypool and Ryan Martinie are definetly the reason I decided to pick up bass
 17.
Yep I'll be good when I'm 85 but too old to gig :-(
At this rate, me too! Just sit down on stage...it's the music that counts
 18.
I've always fancied playing double bass in a rockabilly band so I thought maybe a good way to do that would be to learn the Bass :-) I doubt if I'll ever get to it now as there is so much to learn with the Bass. Always wanted to play an instrument and it's been my biggest regret. I'm 54 next week. My 10 year old is a drummer and I saw a kid playing the Bass. I thought, that's it, I'm going to give it a try...2 weeks later a Bass arrived from Germany. :-) been at it now since January. All my spare time is spent reading, listening, learning and playing Bass :-)
Good to see someone who's not decided it's "too late to learn"!!
 19. First gig I played the drummers bass pedal got stuck after the intro of the first song, luckily it was a double bass pedal so played the rest of the gig with just the left foot. Not very drastic compared to everything posted so far but it was just lucky the drummer was good enough just to use one foot
 20. Was considering putting a video here but everybody is way above my level at both playing and their recording...I don't want to embarrass myself
 21. I've just learned Runaway by Jamiroquai in the last day or so, it's really funky and really fun to play! It's not that hard either
 22.
The person who made me want to play was a YouTube user called zodiakironfist. I loved his covers and I thought - f*ck it! I'd love to do that!
Had been watching his video's for quite a while before I started playing as well, it's a shame he died at such a young age, seemed like a really nice and fun guy as well as a great bassist. Quite a lot of love for The Stranglers here, never really been able to get into them myself.
 23.
no one. someone gave me a bass and showed me how to play (ironically) seven nation army, and it was fun so I kept going
First song I ever learned to play (and wasn't that long ago in all honesty), I quiver in pain at hearing the song now just 'cause it was all I could do for about a month Shame too, I really liked that song
 24. Just curious as to who every bodies main 'idols' would be. For me it was Les Claypool and Ryan Martinie. Just after a while of listening I decided "I want to be able to do that" So yeah, who inspires you!?
