1.
Found this the other day, the isolation really highlights how staccato and ghost-notey Joe's style is.
Thanks! I'd not heard this. I love the bit at 3:20 so much, I mean the whole thing is amazing but that tiny run once they've gone back to the "chorus" (Is it called "the head" in jazz?) is just outstanding
2. indeed! I got my tickets for the 2nd London date, probably not the best venue but I need to see him live!
3. beautiful!
4. first gig with my new band Dandelion Pussy last night. Playing funky drums all night in a packed local pub... does it get any better?
5.
Hey folks... ...it's only gone and won No Trebles 's "Bass of the Week". That's twice now . Wonder if we can get Mick's new build in as the hat trick?
Well done!!
6.
I'll outline a scenario from recently to make it absolutely clear. We were at a lip-reading class, and the question was asked as to how we had lost our hearing. When it came to me, I said loud music because...etc. The lady next to my wife turned to her at once and asked if she went along to every gig, then was negatively surprised to be told 'no'. My wife suggested that it would be fairly odd if I went to her work every time she went... Get the drift? Why do random members of the public think like this?
So just to be clear, you want us to address the very specific scenario of random members of the public and/or friends of our significant others, being surprised that our significant others don't attend all of our gigs? From the thread so far it looks like no-one has found themselves in that scenario. Is it really common for you?
7. The only people who've ever approached me with the "where's your other half?" attitude are female fans of one of the bands I play in. I don't want to seem arrogant but I can only think of one reason they say it None of my partner's friends or any of my friends have ever commented on it. She comes if I tell her I need the support (only happened once, my first ever gig on drums with a reggae band about 8 years ago)
8.
I'd be immediately wary of a band that charged you room hire for auditioning or that didn't make a decision if you were in the band or not after a couple of jams.
Indeed! Lesson learned Thankfully I'll not be auditioning any time soon
9. you know the "drummers are crazy" stereotype? I think this might be the idiots with a kit who can play some "4 to the floor" in time with absolutely no feeling. I've met loads of these. They're usually absolutely mental and quite hard to get rid of once you've realised that they're not really musicians I've met the bassist equivalent too. Huge old full stack, can play root notes but lacks any feeling etc I'm sure there's the equivalent guitarists, keyboardists, singers. There's usually some sort of substance abuse involved, they don't listen to what anyone else is doing, and they're too loud. These people are not musicians!!!
10. I went for "a jam" with an original band that were looking for a bassist. They were pretty good, and I quite liked it, but I wanted to make it a bit more interesting. I explained that, and showed them what I meant with my chords and pedals etc. They seemed enthusiastic, kept inviting me back, charging me for the room hire, I think we did 4 or 5 "jams" and by the time I just figured I was a part of it. I never heard from them again! I texted and emailed but heard nothing until I got a random mailshot from them about a gig they were playing The bassist they actually went with was a much better fit, and a very good player, but it was pretty annoying
11. Did someone share this in Vulfpack on Facebook? I've seen All I Can Give before, very groovy
12. B is going to be more memorable, surely? But then A could turn into a lifelong love affair giving you happiness forever, where as B might just be the last gig before the frontman spirals out of control on a coke binge.
13. I play drums in a few bands. I only ever get bored when the song is rubbish, otherwise, playing a simple beat and listening to the rest of the band play a good song well is entertaining enough
14. Now we have a live video of a different song
15. this is ace, thanks very much!
16. There are no set rules. My instinct would be to try it with the compressor before it, and then the compressor after it. It might track better in one of these positions that the other, and it would be logical to have your pitch shifting before your delay and reverb having said that you might get some cool effects having it after the delay and reverb - you never know until you try You'll definitely want it before the looper, for obvious reasons
17.
sounds like the kind of gig that would either get me in jail, or hospital...
I was on drums and just batted some of the missiles away with my sticks. The bassist took a whole pint of lager to his gorgeous old Bass Collection 5er and was not happy
18. Saturday night at The Station in Ashton near Manchester. A tiny pub packed with pissed up punks throwing beer and vegetables at the bands. It was an experience!
19.
People are waiting for the artsy fartsy photos it looks great, i like the shape!
I certainly am! I love the shape too
20. fender musicmaster, with a headphone splitter in the output so that I could play through two Kustom 15 watt guitar amps with 8" speakers. I've no idea how I managed to hear myself but I did
21. I got them to take the bass out of that wedge, but that was with the better soundman
22. could you not just get an attenuator for your current rig?
23.
Like it! Did the guitarist mix it?......
No, me, are the guitars too high? I sort of rushed it out :/
24.
Played the Maze on Sunday night...Unfortunately though, my opinions of the sound guy weren't changed at all...
They do seem to rotate a bit, I hope you get the better one next time!
25. cheers!
