1.
I attended Strummercamp and the sound all weekend wasn't very good, no bass guitar loads of bass drum, then Ruts DC came on marvellous sound, I actually FB'd Segs Jennings the Ruts bass player about it, his reply was that they'd got their own sound man
yep, simple fact is that there are a lot of bad sound men who keep getting work ***THIS IS NOT A GENERALISATION, THERE ARE A LOT OF GOOD SOUNDENGINEERS*** (just trying to avoid the telling off I got last time I said this)
2. you can get pickup blend pots on passive instruments, no need for it to be active you can plug any basses into either input on your amp, and two at the same time would be fine. Your passive bass into the active input might be a bit too quiet With an active instrument, you generally get some sort of EQ which is much more powerful than a passive tone pot. They are normally louder than a passive instrument too
3. I learned that I can actually play pretty well, and faster than I thought, just because I put myself into a new scenario
4.
So Leo got it wrong? What an idiot! ;-)
5. you can use the B3 as an audio interface, so plug it into your laptop using the USB, install the drivers, plug your bass and headphones into the zoom, and play music off your laptop
6. Friday night at the Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton. I really like this venue but there weren't many in. The headliner's drummer was sharing his kit, turned up an hour late, spent half an hour setting up, then they spent half an hour sound checking. No time for us to check so that put a downer on the night from the start. Still, we played well Last night was STP Records/Dirty Box Disco's xmas do. Plenty of people in and it was an all round good gig but I have to mention the venue - Warehouse 23 in Wakefield. This place is awesome! I wish more venues were like this. Great lighting and sound, clean, stylish, good bar, just an ace venue.
7. pretty much every time a 6 string set from a brand/type I've not tried before, I buy them, because otherwise experimentation is very expensive!
8.
I'll send you my easy to remember pneumonic, however can you clarify first, how easily offended you are, my pneumonic is definitely an adult one.
Not easily offended at all but I'd rather not catch pneumonia
9. Bad Sign, Zoax, and Hacktivist last night. Great bassists in all bands but I do have to give a special mention to Bad Sign - 3 piece with a singing bassist up front and he is awesome AND you could actually tell what notes he was playing. I can't give the soundmen any credit for that 'cos the other guys didn't cut through at all.
10.
...learning to read is, or at least can be, a quick and easy process...
I've tried to learn to read twice, once during music GCSE, once during music tech Bsc. Both times I managed to figure out the rhythm fairly quickly, and I could find out which note was depicted, but it would take me a while, starting at a definite point, then counting the lines, then checking the key signature. I really want to be able to do it, and I will try again, hopefully soon, but it's definitely not "quick and easy" for a lot of people
11.
I did it with two bands. Years apart for different reasons.
We live and learn... just need to get the hang of that second part
12.
...Thing is; a lot of people can get involved in projects and do stuff they haven't specifically been asked to do. Mainly because they had got too emotionally involved in the project...
Hah, yes, just screwed myself over with one of these projects!
13. I love watching these come together
14. great post, even if the style was a little bold
15. It wouldn't be unreasonable to ask them to pay for the production
16. If he was reasonable he'd give you a shot to show what you can do. He owes it to you for all the work you've put it. It sounds like he hasn't offered this, so IMO I'd f*** him off unless you think you stand to make money/reputation from the production side of things
17.
Dude, I crank my amp so hard that angels weep and my guitarist, like, totally bleeds out of his dick. It's so totally rad. S.P.
sweet dude that sounds killer
18. I see, I hadn't fully grasped the dimensions
19. what's the deal with the mini warwick that's always on there? Are they really just ornaments? Seems a bit pointless
20.
The only time a couple of girlies came up to me after a gig, I got the opportunity to make myself laugh. Girlie - "Do you play a lot of gigs round here?" (this was north London) Me - "Not really, but we're very popular in parts of Scotland" Girlie - "Wow, really!" Me - "Yes, personally, I'm huge in the Trossachs!" They wandered off looking confused, I laughed my head off inside. The Two Ronnies would have been proud.
21. protect your hearing!!! I assume you're not wearing ear plugs? You've probably already done permanent damage to your hearing.
22. When I get some time off I'll learn to read, I am determined!
23. bastards. I don't know how it works there but in the UK they're normally up and running again debt free the very same day
