1. I bought this from Dave Hall about two years ago for £150 From the DHA website: "The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive uses a single 12AX7 (ECC83) valve to generate classic pure valve tones. The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is intended to be used in front of a valve amplifier, but will also work well with solid state amps adding valve/tube warmth. The foot switch provides a true by-pass of the overdrive and EQ part of the circuit and the Blue LED indicates if the effect is on or off. There is a cool blue backlight visible via the valve vents. The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is fitted with 2.1mm external PSU adaptor for use with a 9-12v @ 600mA external supply. The user should use a well regulated external supply as the better the regulation then the less the hum when at higher gain levels. The inner of the connector is the positive, there is reverse polarity protection so no harm will be done if you get it wrong. There is an internal switch mode power supply which doubles the 12V to 24V for the valve anodes or ‘plates’. The pedal will work at any voltage between 9V to 12V Please note that there will be a drop in output level if used at 9v so 12v is recommended. The controls are Level, i/p Level, Gain, Boost, Level, Q, Headphone/line out level DI Level, Treble, Mid, Bass, Colour switch, Bright switch, Boost switch and DI Gnd Lift switch" It's plain red, rather than the splashed effect DHA usually do (at my request) The paint job is pretty sloppy and the writing done by hand as usual. Comes with the power supply and a spare Mullard ECC83 valve! (EHX one installed currently) Everything works as it should, I just don't need overdrive or that much EQ with my current band. £70 posted or I'll very generously swap for a MarkBass Superbooster Edit: Pictures added. As you can see, I've put chicken head knobs on (to match my amp) but I've kept and will include the originals too.
2.
*grin* actually I think it was because I was just amazed that you could actually play a bass with so much hardware covering the strings...
Yes, style over substance, that's me. Good job I don't have a scooter
Really pleased it went well, hope you get to London at some point!
Thanks. The guitarist and I have a fair amount of gigging experience, but the singer had never played live with a band before, and the drummer had never gigged in public (only his school), so we're chuffed it went so well. I'm sure London that will be on the cards at some point. It would be great to meet you.
3. Listening to the bassline on "A Little bit of Love" affected me greatly as a fledgling bass player. His use of space and timing. My favourite rock player.
4. Our guitarist found some of my posts while googling our band name. He said 'basschat?! - that's worse than Internet porn!' A DJ housemate found the fact that there was a Strings Direct absolutely hilarious. Takes all sorts. I must admit, when talking to non BCers about the forum, I refer to it in a sort of mumbled 'that bass forum thing'
5. We had a really fun gig. The place was small and busy with a very positive and receptive atmosphere. Of course there were mistakes, but overall we're happy to have our first gig out of the way, and with lots of cheers and positive feedback. Good to meet BigRedX too, who managed to politely disguise his disdain for Fenders :-) it was good to meet you and have a chat BRX. A good night.
6. What does that writing say? I think I can make it out as "skankdelvar"
7. Why on earth would the retailer not replace the missing knob before selling it? They can't be that hard to source
8. I think they mean it has "got bite damage"
9. The link doesn't work for me I'm afraid
10. It looks like it's rolling up the wall spiderman style
11. I've never had a bass with a zero fret, but I'd imagine that it would have to be higher than the others, as it needs to have contact with the strings, otherwise there would be no point in its existence. You don't mention the bridge - I assume you've lowered this as far as you can with no buzzing? If so, I guess you could look at the zero fret, but be careful, if it gets lowered too much, it won't have proper contact with the strings and will buzz. This could be alleviated by filing down the nut in turn. Personally, I'd fiddle with the bridge, and if that doesn't do it, I'd go to a professional.
12. Hard Times - there are a lot of SP moments in there (Did you have "My Red Hot Car" on heavy rotation perchance? ), with a bit of old school jungle/garage(?) moments which I'm not so keen on. Squeeze (first version) - Love it - the Dr Who sample fits in brilliantly, love the dialogue, the mood, tempo, the buildup. Butterfly Effect - I'm big into dub/reggae, and like the way it morphs into DnB Say - nice vocals, fantastic synth bass Love Superhero - If that's Dubstep, then I like dubstep! Haitian Fight Song - I'm not sure if it's enough of a departure from the Mingus song for me to not want to just listen to the original instead. After a few more listens maybe. I tend to like very different covers (as subtlety is not my strong point) Hypnomatics - Well, aren't you just full of surprises! That's exactly the type of dirty funky hiphop I love. A bit Roots/Edan/Jurrasic 5. Super Starry Eyed - Not a fan of the original, but you do an alright job of guilding the turd. Poker Face - I like the idea of Radio Gaga being sampled, but it doesn't do it for me. Overall, you are a talented man! The diversity is huge and there's a lot of great ideas and sounds in there. I'd buy an album.

14. Link?
15. This is our gig on Friday (Ujahm)
16. That's must be really frustrating! The guitarist sees this as his baby, so I'd say the only realistic way to stay with the band is to do the session player thing. I wouldn't take it personally, as I'm sure your playing is fine, it's not just the style that this dude wants, and he calls the shots! If you can, have a part time side project which offers total creative freedom, but the guitarist's band can be the bread and butter. edit - Happy Jack articulated my thoughts perfectly, read that instead!

18. Hi Tom, Could you clarify something please? You state earlier in the thread that the body is not '79, and the neck isn't either, so where does the '79 come into it? Thanks
19.
Lord, that was awful.
I don't mind his noodling every once in a great while. A Remark You Made, however, is my least favourite song by WR - to me it's like something from the dance floor of the Love Boat.
20. Any Fatback love out there? I really love their early/mid '70s stuff, not so much the later "I found Love" era:
21. Sorry, I was unaware that the quilted effect ran right down the side beyond the depth of the top. I now see your point, thanks for the clarification. In that case, either just the sides are veneered, or the whole thing is veneered, but why one would veneer over the top wood is beyond me. Can you see a join in the quilted maple at roughly the same depth as the top wood/body wood join?
22.
Thanks for the reply Roland Rock.. I would define a veneer as something that is glued to a profile as apposed to a solid top with a profile? Cheers, Wal...
Hi, I don't quite get what you mean by 'the contour depth on top', or the reference that it's 'glued to a profile'. To me it looks like a thin top wood glued (laminated) onto the body wood, then the lot is profiled and finished. As far as definitions go, I suppose a veneer is a thin (no actual definition of what "thin" is) sheet of wood glued to a thicker inferior one, so technically you could be right. To those who work in the woodworking industry (like me), a veneer is approx 0.5mm*, and anything much thicker than that is a facia. Hope this helps *The 0.5/0.6mm has been standard veneer thickness since the 60's. Victorian veneer is several mm thick as it was often cut by hand.
23.
My 73 Precision (missing a string), Mesa Boogie rig, 77 Precision, Danelectro DC and Fender Victor Baily along with Mesa FC, Bass VT Deluxe, Markbass SuperSynth and Boss Tu-2 Happy Days!!!
It took me a while to figure out that the Precision on the left is on a step - it looked like it was just bigger than the others for a while
24.
Tell us more!
Not sure if this is what Johnston means, but you could say that bass playing is one of your business activities along with the day job. After factoring in your gear costs plus expenses, you're likely to make a fair loss. this can be offset against any taxable income from your day job, hence lowering your overall tax bill.
