1. I'm quite a gearstalker myself. Probably shouldn't be as it only serves to increase my GAS problem! You know the scenario. Just when you think you're perfectly happy with your sound, you hear something your rig has never pushed out before! This happened to me the first time I borrowed an ampeg cab. Dammit! I probably get more people eyeing up my gear though, none of the musicians i've shared a bill with have seen Markbass and are amazed at how loud my tiny little 'car stereo' head can go. The fact that I have a few pedals is totally alien to most! I actually quite like people coming up to me and giving me an excuse to bang on about gear. Firstly because I feel like I might be helping people out a little bit with some info and a little personal opinion, secondly because... Well I just like to talk about bass stuff
2. Putting more mids in my sound helped me out a lot
3. Don't take it personally mate. It was just a play on words (look up stool in the dictionary in case you didn't get it), and not aimed at you personally from what I can see. Why not put it back up for sale as someone might indeed be interested in it. Good luck with the sale
4. £90? I got one of the plain heavy duty cotton/suede ones for a tenner! It was this exact one - http://www.thomann.de/gb/levys_mssc8_blk_gitarrengurt.htm
5. +1 on the Levy's straps! They're probably the cheapest around too which makes NO sense as they're clearly the best in the world!
6. Bump for an amazing bass. As my uncle who is a great player once said about it "It's a Precision, a Jazz, and a Stingray all in one!"
7. Wow man that's crazy, and what a pain in the rear! But I say hats off to DPD for admitting they cocked up. Shame about the 28 days thing, but they're a business, they all have SOMETHING dodgy about them. After reading this I'd still be happy to ship with them though
8. I'd go for a basschat shirt. In black obviously also would consider a wristband, and maybe a sticker for my pedalboard which incidentally would never have existed if it weren't for this place! ... Also how about a plastic yellow and black 'chat' to stick on my cab next to the 'Markbass' logo?
9. I really liked Elites, they're very reasonably priced, and the stainless steel Stadium Series ones are the brightest I've played personally
10. I used to have a Laney R5, 2x10 combo (which they've now replaced with the RB7). Fantastic amp, very good tone, punchy with nice low end, even when used on its own! That cost me £300, so these 2 together are an absolute steal for a very giggable setup!
11.
I dont know if this is any help, but i listen to songs that im learning until im bored to tears with it.Only then do i pick up a bass and learn it,then it comes a lot easier to me.
+1000 to this. When i joined my current band I would listen to the tracks all throughout my night shifts, then every time I sat down to actually learn the songs I'd have them down in record time
12. Welcome! Enjoy the forum, but try not to spend as much time on here as I do or you'll never get anything done
13. I have always had that problem with strings. Have you tried buying online from say... http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/?
14. I sold a Sansamp BDDI to Aljan a little while ago, my first experience selling on BC! It all went very smoothly, he paid for it straight away, and kept in communication with me throughout so I knew it had got to him in the Netherlands ok. Cheers mate!
15. Bought a Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver DI from him a few weeks ago. Paid for it on the Friday and it came on the Monday in immaculate condition too! Very happy with it and would definately buy from again. Cheers
16. Finally got around to giving my feedback from weeks ago! I bought an EHX Small Stone Nano from Matt for a very reasonable price! When it turned up it was like new, with the box, warranty card and the lot! Took a lot to convince the missus that I'd DEFINATELY got it cheap
17. I'm on my iPhone at the mo, so I can't contribute much. But anything in 7/8 is immensely fun to play!
18.
blaggers keep a straight face while they play rubbish
I'm just beginning to grasp that one! A good tip would be to get an Ampeg SVT rig and play in a metal band. You'll have a fantastic sound but nobody will hear your mistakes no matter how badly you play ... If only I knew that 2 years ago! Thanks to my midrange focused markbass cabs I actually have to practice before gigs
19.
Welcome to the 'fakers club'
Proud member here too!
When people sometimes compliment me on my playing, I hold back a giggle thinking 'you don't know how crap I really am, and how much practice I had to do to cover it up'.
Yep this is very familiar to me!
20. Mildly interested in the classic cabinets at the moment after borrowing an ampeg fridge. How would this one compare to an Ampeg STV-610HLF?
21. After so many years of being happy with my current rig, and thinking I'd never find anything I'd love more... I played a gig the other night where I put my bass, pedalboard, and head through the headlining band's Ampeg Classic SVT-610HLF. I was blown away by the pure aggressiveness, and immediately considered the credibility of my Markbass 104HF. I love it but I've never made it sound quite like THAT! Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I don't have the car space, or the brute strength needed to cart a fridge like that about. But I still can't get that tone out of my head! I was just wondering if anybody has ever come across a small and/or lightweight cab that is capable of replicating the tone better than mine. Preferably in the form of two 8 ohm cabs, as i've previously liked to take downsized rigs to practices and jam sessions. I've been looking into Barefaced cabs as they're probably the smallest you can get! But are they capable of getting that tone? Or maybe someone can temporarily save me by convincing me it's possible to get there with my current rig if i'm patient enough? (good luck by the way ) If it helps at all my current gear is in my sig, and to add to that I've got some Seymour Duncan Passive Phase II Basslines pickups in the post courtesy of Doctor J. (Although I'm already tempted by EMG-HZ!) Cheers! I'm probably the millionth person to post something like this now
22.
Has this anything to do with the date...
My thoughts exactly
23. Peavey stuff is very reliable from my own experiences, and what I've heard from everyone who's used it. You should be more than happy with it. About the lack of info thing, that always puts me in two minds about things no matter how good the reviews. I am getting some Seymour Duncan pickups soon and am having that very dilemma. I've decided to just wait until they arrive. Unless it's a boutique piece of equipment it's easily shiftable in the rare event that it's no good
24. I'm hardly an expert, but where are you putting the compressor in your signal chain? I put the compressor first to even out my dynamics, then put the overdrive afterwards. I don't get as lairy a tone as i would with no compression at all, but if you put the compressor afterwards it tends to tame the driven effect a bit too much in my experiences. I hope that helps a little!
25.
Love the cleanness and light weight, and use 'em. They are so clean, however, that one perceives them as quiet compared to "real" wats of the old-school type. Simply demonstrates how little what we perceive through our hearing relates to measured specs and numbers. See also audio tapered pots, etc. I find class D gives me lots of clarity, but then I like the sound of my bass DI'd too. I also thoroughly approve of big old dirty conventional amps in some contexts. Horse for courses, as always.
I love the cleanliness for the cases when I need it. It's not often admittedly as I'm a metal guy. But I prefer to start from a clean slate and filth it up with pedals
