1.
Nice one. Looking forward to hearing them later. For the ones that are hosted on Soundcloud, here's a playlist for your convenience: https://soundcloud.c...ts/basschatjuly
Super, very helpful!
 2.
Thanks for the replies. Do you think £250 is a good price for an SR700? It seems a little cheap to me which makes me a little reticent about taking the plunge (it's online so I can't try it out)...
I bought by SR705 for £250.... to use a well-worn Basschat phrase, you get a lot of bass for your money!
 3. I expect the 80/20 rule comes into play here: spend 80% of your time tuning it, and the other 20% playing out of tune
 4.
25 watt Ampeg BA108 in living room, 15 watt Fender Rumble (old version) in spare room where PC is, for learning songs along to youtube. Neither get above 9 0`clock on volume.
+1 for the Rumble 15!
 5.
Come to think of it.... Otis also did a great version of Lift Me Up.
6.
[sub][sub]Sam Foxx, Bruce Foxton and Rufus Hound are recording a version of "Fox on The Run" for the Countryside Alliance.[/sub][/sub]
Another version? I liked the one by Run DMC feat. John Foxx.
 7.
I play with a pick, what do I do?
Use the fingers to hold the pick
 8.
1) Don’t just boost… try cutting too
One way of approaching this - and a way to find "your" tone - is to use a process of listening out for what you don't like about your sound, and then try to isolate and remove it. This also applies to tecnique (e.g. I don't like the wooly resonance from the open strings, so I need to work on muting them)
Agree about playing style and 'in the fingers', but not too sure about 'set all the controls on 10'...
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
 9.
Very nice.
This.
 10.
That's an eye catching fingerboard though!
+1!
Excellent notion. You could get on the same bill as Commercial Suicide. A fine band.
Ah yes, I've not actually heard them, but I think we share the same influences. Often my ideas are greeted with "Sounds like..."
 11. Drool drool drool... I had a play on one of these - an SRF705? - when I was about to dip my toe into the waters of 5-strings. I ended up with a GWB-35, which is also lovely, although I'm more of a neck-pickup kinda guy so I think I'll be trading it in at some point, and the SRF is the prime contender for its replacement!
 12. Rare - the opposite of well-done.
 13. What's the nut spacing like?
 14.
It's the time taken to paint it that counts, surely..?
But art doesn't work like that... Cathy Dennis wrote Can't Get You Out of My Head in an afternoon, and Toxic over two or three weeks, and her 'clients' - the public - both deemed them to be of comparable value. And I heard Graham Gouldman talk about hit songwriting recently, and he said his hit rate was about one in fifty - for anyone "buying" a song from him it would be like buying a lottery ticket. Who's practically going to do that?
 15. Actually, there's already the option to operate in the manner Dad suggests. E.g. I could write some music and sell it lock-stock-and-future-royalties to e.g. a library-music vendor. Just as the painter could sell his painting to the jigsaw-maker, or license its reproduction in return for a share of the sales.
 16. So let's say the jigsaw-maker buys the painting, at great expense. Then they discover that a rival jigsaw-maker has copied the painting and is making a huge profit by undercutting them in the marketplace.
 17. I just get a load of sunglasses!
 18.
That's what happens if you carry a guitar and a bass in one of those double cases...
19.
Yeah I saw those Fusion ones, that's what prompted this thread, they look enormous! They also look a bit high, I'm 6'1 and I'd be hitting bus shelters etc. ..maybe it's easier to just buy a car and be done with it.
Purpose-built for identical twins with a total of four basses to carry?
 20. A few of us are suspending our disbelief, and wondering how this could work... It seems to me that this model would only be possible in a benign Utopia or an iron-fisted dictatorship.
 21. So putting together Marvin's and Dad's comments above, should Spotify only have the right to profit from distributing works which they themselves have commissioned, i.e. directly paid the creators?
 22. Here's another (long) article from this weekend's Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jul/17/postcapitalism-end-of-capitalism-begun
 23.
I don't see why not. I think the earnings should be in proportion to the effort employed, not for the success or otherwise of the finished work.
But who pays? (And Macca says he dreamt the melody, so he should probably get paid less - or even dismissed - for sleeping on the job )
 24.
A songster should equally get paid for creating songs.
So would Paul McCartney earn the same for writing "Yesterday" as I would for writing my current work-in-progress?
 25. Gorgeous. Is the spec you linked to correct re. nut width? It says 43mm, which is narrower than a BB**5 or Ibanez SR**5?
