1. I'm sure there's a news clipping about this somewhere. "Groupie accidentally makes conversation with bass player..." BB
2. Does this help? BB
3. I'd heard it was originally 'Mug a drummer', until it turned out none of 'em had any money...
4. Never really gave much credence to Abba songs at the time, but on reflection, Rutger Gunnarsson's basslines are a treat... BB

6.
Excellent! This one is sort of close to my heart as I've got Bruce Thomas' white 63 P he got to replace the stolen one.
Very nice!
7. Intro to Pump it Up by Elvis Costello & The Attractions. Punktastic... BB
8. Many thanks Discreet, Ou7shined. On closer inspection it appears that not only was the foam ultra-compressed, it had also stuck to the copper plate, thus anchoring it firmly in its lowest position, regardless of what the covers were doing. I've just cut some nice friendly 5 mm foam rectangles from a defunct pedal case, whacked them in there and Bob's yer bass-playing uncle. Job done. Thanks again chaps. Gotta love this forum. BB
9. Help me out here basspeeps, and forgive me if I'm being spectacularly dumb. I'm trying to adjust the pickup height on a CIJ 62 reissue P Bass, which is too over-angled (or just plain underpowered) for my taste. I want to raise the pups to be a little closer to the E and G strings, but whenever I turn the adjustment screws, this only affects the height of the covers, not the pickups themselves. Neither the pickups nor the covers seem sprung in any way, so any pressure from a thumb resting on the cover just pushes it all back down. With the covers removed, the pickup itself sits on a thin foam pad, all of which rests on a copper plate. Can I use something as a wedge? Any suggestions? Should this be placed above or below the copper plate? I've never had to tinker with this sort of thing before, so I don't want to bugger anything up. And once again, forgive me if I'm being dumb here... Many thanks, BB
10. Ah yes. About 6 years ago when we first started. A venue in Moxley, West Mids. A tiny hexagonal stage bounded by a balustrade, with a support column through the middle, around which a ledge for drinks had been attached. Rather like the centre console of an old-fashioned Tardis. Drummer played behind the column. About 10 people were in there, six of whom left immediately. A hen party arrived to lift our spirits, only to leave again straight away. Wretched. Another venue in Lye, West Mids. We began the set at 10.30pm, playing to 2 people. Both behind the bar. At 11 the hardened drinkers arrived, having been thrown out of the other pubs. Not good. And another in New Oscott, near Sutton Coldfield. Three people admired our soundcheck, and then offered to sell us cocaine. 10 people watched the first set. Three people watched the second set. We thought we'd ham it up by dancing around an on the tables using our wireless systems. Until I fell off one of them... BB
11. Spend £600 on PA, and the rest on guitars, drugs 'n hookers! http://www.astounded.com/qtx-2100w-10-channel-active-live-band-pa-system-with-usb-mixer.html BB
12. Again, what AT said. Check this out... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8253915.stm Bestaluck, BB
13. Hey Johan - welcome from a fellow lefty. Have fun, BB
14. Rather like the OP, I'm not sentimental about this kind stuff. I've traded more guitars, basses, keyboards - even drums- than I'd care to admit. But I'll never shift a battered classical guitar that was my Dad's. It's almost wrecked with holes and cracks, but it ain't going anywhere... BB
15.
But will the glue wipe off witouh a mark in the future if you decide to remove the thumb rest? I think you want a permanent fix that won't come out so why don't you just screw the thumb rest and stop worrying about it?
This. But if you really want to glue, I'd go for epoxy resin. Use sparingly... BB
16. I've seen and heard a couple of Aerodyne Jazzes, and they seem pretty mean on both fronts to me. Lovely look and sound. However, if you don't like them then perhaps you could look at getting a Jazz and replacing one of the pups for, say, a Seymour Duncan or EMG, with the same shape to avoid having to re-rout the body? Alternatively you could try a Jazz neck on the P Bass. I have a MIM Jazz and a CIJ Precision at the moment, and I share your view that the neck on the P is horrible to play, despite a lovely sound. As a lefty, I have fewer options than most, so I'm considering two options: 1. Getting an Aerodyne Jazz, though lefties are harder to find. Not sure I want to risk buying an overseas one from eBay, and my budget is limited. 2. Getting a luthier to shave the neck of the P (and maybe swap the pup, too). Bestaluck, BB
17. So many bands, so little time. Keep at it, and find the right one for you. Make sure it's fun. My current band is in its 6th year, prior to which I had taken a similar 10 year sabbatical. It's an absolute hoot. Bestaluck, BB
18. I guess it's down to what you and the others want to get from the band. I'd hazard a guess that for a good number of BCers, being in a band is a hobby rather than a profession. If it's a paid hobby, then so much the better. However it's still a hobby, so if a gig looks like too much of a ball-ache, then it ain't gonna be fun. I also book the majority of gigs for my band, and I'm occasionally frustrated when other members decline a gig for seemingly inconsequential reasons. Having said that, we do about 45 gigs a year and the guys are entitled to some sort of private/family/social life. We won't play any gigs over Christmas or the New Year since we're so busy during the rest of the year, and it's only fair to members and families to have a festive week off. For the same reason, we've also agreed amongst ourselves that we absolutely won't go out for less than a certain fee. BB
19. funk-bass.co.uk (note the hyphen) is available, but the .com has also been parked for sale... BB
20. I guess it's down to the personality of the band and the audience, and the gravity of the gig. But to me it's as important as learning the musical parts. Consider the following... Mammaaa, just killed a maaaan Put a bum against his bread, dah dah da-da-da-da-daaaah Mammaaa, doobie dooooobie-doo.... ...and the answer becomes self-evident! I also share vocals in my band, and the lead singer also has crib sheets on the floor. He still gets 'em wrong from time to time. For the most part he gets away with it, but we do tease him mercilessly about it. During one particular verse of 'Love will tear us apart', we all swear that he sang "Where the rhubarb grows high/ and the chickens run free..." BB
21. Greetings! Always good to have another lefty on board. Groove on, BB
22. If you're just looking for something to noodle on at home, then you could do worse than an Ashdown After Eight. Jakester has one for sale here on BC, at £45: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/215561-ashdown-after-eight-practice-amp/page__p__2189900__hl__ashdown__fromsearch__1#entry2189900 I have one myself - very handy. Bestaluck BB
