1.
He developed a style and pretty much made it his own. IMO he's got a whole load more musical personality than a lot of the players with "killer chops" that get raved about on here.
Exactly.
2. Hi Guys! Bought this nice US made strap online from Alan Gregory Music last week and didn't get on with the feel of the neoprene. It reduces the weight sensation dramatically, but I realised I prefer to feel the weight of my rather heavy 77 P-Bass pulling me to the ground Never gigged. Put it on my bass, didn't like it and took it out immediately. It is brand new. I paid £32.28 for it with delivery and I'm selling it for £25 including postage to the UK. Here's a link to Alan Gregory's website where I got it from: http://www.alangrego...itar_Strap.html Cheers, Eddie
3. Still a good price for a wicked bass. If I had the money I would buy it. So what if he got lucky and got it for an even better price? The OP is not forcing anyone to buy the bass. Only goes to show it pays to keep an eye on eBay too...
4. Bought a cool Ibanez ATK from Ash for a non-BC friend and everything was fine. My friend had problems verifying his Paypal account for some reason and Ash was cool to wait for the payment for a while. Great basschatter here!
5. In the last 3 years I owned and tried a lot of the high end cabs out there. Epifani, Orange, Ashdown, Aguilar... All of them are really good. My Super 12 though it's absolutely brilliant. I honestly can't fault it and not a week goes by without people asking me questions about it in awe of the sound, looks and lightweight. I've been using it intensely for a year now and I'm not looking back. Email Alex and he'll help you find the right cabinet for you.
6. Just got mine delivered today. Not a great set up out of the box. Put a Badass II on it, gave a nice set up and... Wow! Sounds and plays great even with the Fender Nickel rounds that came with it. I'm really liking the kinda "flat" neck profile. I will report back after my gig tonight. Shame my Status Premium Rounds didn't arrive in time for tonight's gig. Maybe tomorrow... Stay tuned

8. I'm a big Elvis Costello fan and he never sounded as good as when he had Bruce Thomas on bass. Costello's sound really changed when he fired Bruce and it got back to "normal" when they joined forces again to record 'Brutal Youth'.
9. Yes, that's the one. I got it from Nick on a trade. It's a wicked neck and I'm kinda hoping to be able to keep it. Fingers crossed some last minute gigs come my way for December
10. Hey guys! Yeah, it's the time of the year again. Not a lot of cash in my pocket so I gotta let something go. This time is this beautiful Jazz Bass neck made by Doug Wilkes. For those of you who don't know his work, check his website here: http://www.wilkesgui...co.uk/index.htm It's master built quality stuff. Maple with maple fretboard and bone nut with a stunning grain. The pictures definitely don't do it justice. It's gorgeous and it plays great. It comes with a set of these vintage re-issue reverse tuners: http://www.ebay.co.u...W-/140858183344 The neck has been drilled perfectly to accommodate these type of tuners so they sit nice and flush. It's all ready to be screwed onto your favourite body (my plan was to build a Super Jazz, or a Fender-Bird around it) and rock n'roll. Condition is as new. There's not a ding or scratch on this neck. The price is £200 collected from SW9. Doug Wilkes charges £400 for a neck like this, which is cheap given the build quality. You can take it from me for half the price + you get the tuners and the neck has already been drilled for them, so no hassle. Just fun!
11.
This guy makes every note count! It's his true way. It's his dharma. He is THE sh*t! Great band, all the focus is on music and happiness.
Totally respect your opinion, but not to my ears. Specially when I can't even hear half of the notes coming through that mud. But the vibe of the band is really cool indeed and I prefer them to pretty much every band I've seen live lately. I just didn't understand the fuss about the bass player. Maybe if he was a skinny white guy on the corner and not pulling any faces, no one would've noticed him.
12. Ok... I'm gonna be the first grumpy one. I wish he (the bass player) focused more on making each note sound right and not playing that many notes. And, by the way, I hate the bass tone. Don't like the drummer either. I really like the guitarist and, specially, the keyboard player.
13. I've been using mine intensively for almost a year now. Love it! Great amp. Don't understand why they were discontinued...
14. I managed to get away without having to play this song for too long. Last weekend the dreaded day arrived. I used my MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and my EHX Bassballs. Sounded great and I confess I had fun playing it.
15. Yeah man... Once people discover the Micro Thumpinator, I don't think sfx will be able to make enough of them, hehe! Can't see myself living without mine. Happy times!
16. Hmmm... Through a Terror Bass? I used mine for some funky stuff, including some slapping and it was fine. But it was more old school funk... More of a vintage tone, nothing to do with Flea. If I were you I would get a good compressor pedal and and Boss bass eq.
17. Hi guys! For those of you who don't know what a Micro Thumpinator is, here's what the sfx site says: The Thumpinator is a bandwidth optimizer designed for bass guitar. It removes the low frequency signals that are outside the range of notes produced by bass guitars. Subsonic frequencies cannot be reproduced by standard bass cabinets but they often make amplifiers clip especially when they are set to boost the lower frequencies. The Thumpinator filters the signal content optimising the energy delivered by the amplifier. Low frequency clip is substantially reduced and the sound is tighter especially at high volume levels. The Micro Thumpinator uses the same filter as the Thumpinator, but uses unbalanced input/output. I just got myself a Micro Thumpinator from sfx and I couldn't be happier about it. So happy I wrote to Max at sfx today to give him my first impressions after one gig. Here's what I wrote to Max and I thought I might share it with you guys... "Hi Max, Just writing to you to give you my first impressions on the Micro Thumpinator. Got it Saturday morning, put it on my pedal board straight away and used it that same night. Man... How did I live without this little device for so long? I mean, I used to have the filter switches on my QSC power amp but, don't know why, they didn't work as well as the MT. I'm putting the MT first thing on my signal chain followed by my Aguilar TLC comp. Best combination ever. The compressor works better now, all the other effects (drive, octave and envelope filters) also respond better. Never loved my Bass Balls and my Bass Synth Wah so much. And, without any effects, just the MT and the compressor, I got the punchier P-Bass sound ever now. The drummer I play with, who's a good friend of mine and also a wicked sound engineer, came straight to me after the first set and made huge compliments on my sound. Like how he never heard my bass so clear in the mix and how great it sounded. I showed him the little fella and he was impressed. We did a little A-B'ing after the gig (with and without MT) and what a difference it makes. I was about to change my strings because my E was sounding a bit dull. Not anymore... My E string is back to life. This little thing is magical man. I'm glad I bumped into it and into SFX. Will be getting more stuff from you soon." By the way, my rig is '77 P-Bass (with Status Premium Rounds), Ashdown Spyder 550 and Barefaced Super 12. This rig always sounded great, but never as good as this last Saturday. I definitely recommend you guys to give this baby a try. I'm sure you'll love it. Cheers, Eddie
18. At this rate bass players are gonna take the post form keyboard players as the biggest geeks in the music world...
19.
Did it do clean loud? I have heard that the 200 breaks up early? Cheers!
I think clean loud is what the YBA300 is all about. Very beautiful, clean, warm bass sound. Sounded great when I used my old Catalinbread SFT in front of it for a little bit of drive. You can use the gain control to make it dirty, but I didn't particularly like the tone it produced like that.
20. Used to own a YBA300. Great sounding amp and loud as hell! Kinda miss it, but not enough stadium gigs booked to justify it... Go for it. Great piece of gear!
