1. +1 all the Richard Thompson tracks esp Industry and Old Kit Bag. I think that also played some lovely stuff on David Sylvian's album Secrets of The Beehive. I've seen him with RT several times great player
2. Are there enough of us for an Essex BassBash then?
3. Welcome to Basschat. Where abouts in Essex are you?

8. That precision looks great Neil. Either black or tort would do it for me. What's it sound like then? I'm getting gas attacks for a P to go with my Jazz! All academic at the moment as we're skint.
9. Oops sorry wrong website but kind of mid life crisis related anyway: I'm not as busy as I'd like to be with my current band and looking for a side project to get me out of the house and playing more regularly. Any depping, especially for paid gigs, recording projects or even just sitting in as the supply bassist for occasional rehearsals would be good. I'm based in Saffron Walden, Essex and can bring along 4string 5string and fretless basses, all good gear plus lots of gig experience. Fave stuff is basically anything with a groove esp Soul, Funk, Motown, pop some rock but nothing too heavy. PM me for any more details sample tracks and links to band websites that I can be heard and seen on. Mike
10. and just remember it's the stor'es responsibility to sort his out not the manufacturer
11. Welcome to Basschat. My Italian only extends to ordering food and drink and asking for the bill. so I'll stick to English. I have a Peavey Tim Landers 5 string. You don't see many of them around. Great bass and an Ebay bargain bu I had a hell of a job trying to source spare pots to replace worn out tone controls. Manged to get a treble and bass one sent from Peavey USA but still can't find a mid/ mid sweep one.
12. The best thing that happened to my old ashdown 4x10+ 1x15 Mag stack was that I fried the Mag 1x15 speaker! I replaced it with a Celestion for £60 and it made a hell of an improvement. The Ashdown blueline drivers are or were fairly average Jensen units. If i was in your position and I had the dosh I'd swap out the speakers for a couple of Celestions and if that doesn't do it add a non Ashdown Mag 2x10 ext cab. I really like Markbass and have seen a couple of 2x10's for sale here recently. I also second the idea of cutting the bass a bit and bumping up the low mid. I find this really helps cut through with my markbass 2x10 combo. Mind you I have most of my low end provided FOH through our PA subs and this is primarily for my onstage sound. Mike
13. Great stuff . Looking forward to hearing from you how it sounds/plays. I have a '93 Mex St**tocaster. It's really good compared to my US one.
14. Are you picking it up from Newcastle? I hope that the weather is kind to you!
15. Thanks I really enjoyed this. How did you light it? if you ever decide to leave the band or need a dep........
16. Sadly I can't make it tomorrow night but really liking your tunes on myspace Urb. First Rai/rock thing I've ever heard. I've only ever really listened to Cheb Khaled as far as Rai artists go. but quite like that whole north African thing. Have a great gig mike
17.
As I've posted on here before, I think Colin Moulding of XTC is very underated. Great band, really well crafted songs, and some impressive bass playing.
Couldn't agree more. One of my favourite bands.
18. I've got one of these it's very nice and sounds great. You don't see many around.
19. Any reccomendations for a good cheap drum machine or software?
20.
As a card carrying jazzer, I can say that this tune is the worst piece of remedial s***e ever to find its way onto the world's airwaves. It doesn't swing at all, anywhere, the solos are atrocious, Morrison drops nearly a whole bar in one place and is only able to avoid looking like a complete t** by the fact that the band, despite their complete lack of chops, manages to pick him up again. How this recording was ever allowed to see the light of day is an astonisihing inditement on the low production values that existed during that era. The producers (Van Morrison and Lewis Merenstein) should be ashamed of themselves (although Morrison's complete lack of self awareness would make this unlikely). The song (which I loath) is on my 'won't play' list, along with Canteloupe Island, Waternelon Man and Fever. But that's just me.
No it's not just you Bilbo. Add also Brown eyed Girl, I'll never play it again
21. He's a bit busy on the Bass player clinic clips ( love the Chuch Rainey ones) but I really like her new album
