2. Thanks for the replies I've just ordered one from Guitar Parts Resource and can get M8 threaded inserts on ebay easily enough Cheers Richard
3. I am just finishing off a EB3 style bass build and I am thinking of buying a Hipshot Supertone bridge from the US as in the UK it seems one would cost me £125 I can get one for around £70 from Guitar parts Resource including delivery. How much duty would be payable on this? I presume VAT at 20% Import duty? Customs charge? Also where in the uk can I buy the threaded inserts for fitting to the body ? Or would it be possible to fix the bridge with large stainless self tapping screws? Thanks Richard
4.
Thanks for those suggestions...I'm not sure on the pickup dimensions but I'll look into that. Thank you...
Have a look at a DiMarzio "hot" Firebird mini humbucker DP198 http://www.axiomatic-music.co.uk/cgi-bin/s...tml%23a241#a241

6. Don't suppose these happen to be short scale strings? Cheers Richard
7. Anybody use La Bella Deep Talkin flats on a short scale? What are they like?
8. I take on board whats been said however my Mustang must have cut down long scale (34") strings on it as the E string is .100" diameter and it is wound round the tuner a few turns. If I can get a second hand set of 324 med scale I will try them on it but like you say its probably not worth risking a brand new set Are there any short scale flatwound strings that are similar to Thomastik Jazz Flats in tone and feel ? Thing is I really like them on my Mustang and would really like them on my EB3 Chees Richard
9. Thanks Dave I did think it was a bit dodgy cutting down long scale ones I have seen the strings on stringsdirect but would prefer a second hand set and as I don't need a set for a week or two I thought it was worth trying on the forum first. So it looks like I'm after a set of Thomastik JF 324 Jazz Flats strings if I can get some secondhand. I've placed an Ad in the Wanted section Cheers Richard
10. Is it ok to shorten a set of 34" bass strings to fit them on a short (30") EB3 type bass? I'm after a 2nd hand set of TI JF324 Jazz flats 43-106 and most of the sets that I've seen on sale are JF344 ones 43-100. I've looked on the Thomastik website and the AD and G strings are the same diameter as the JF344's just the E string is a little thinner than the short scale one . Also I've just measured the TI Jazz Flats on my Fender Mustang and the E string is JF344 thickness (.100") I presume thats because the strings go throught the body on a Mustang? Thanks Richard PS If anyone does have a spare set of these strings please let me know. Thanks

12. I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Dimarzio Model One and a Dimarzio Hot Minihumbucker and I'm going to get a Les Paul wiring harness (2 vol 2 tone 3 way swtich for the wiring. Thanks for all your help Cheers Richard
13. How can I tell what they should be ? The loom I'm looking at is a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul Wiring Harness with 2 Volumes + 2 Tones + 3 Way Toggle + 1/4" Output Jack it has Alpha(JS) Pro 500k Pots. Thing is I don't want to make up my own loom I'd want to buy one ready made as electronics and soldering are not something I'm confident in I'm likely to buy a DiMarzio Model One for neck pickup and have had suggested a DiMarzio hot DP198 mini humbucker http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/pickups/ but its not listed as a bass pickup. Will this be ok? Cheers Richard
14. Hi I am currently building an EB3 type bass and was wondering if it would be ok to use a Les Paul wiring harness (2 vol 2 tone and 3 way switch) connected to the 2 pickups ? Also if anyone has any Epiphone humbucker and mini humbucker pickups they've removed from an Epiphone EB3 that they would like to sell please let me know. I have also been looking at other pickups I could use. Neck pickups: EMG Select (bit smaller than original size neck pickup though) about £28 DiMarzio Will Power [DP145] £70 DiMarzio Model One (DP120) £72 Bridge pickups: Epiphone viola bass neck pickup £36 If anyone has any of these I would welcome comments Also any other recommendations Thanks Richard
15. I posted on vintageguitars.org.uk forum as suggested and have now got the measurements I needed Cheers Richard
