Bass Whisperer clips are usually where i head first as he uses varying techniques to demonstrate and even came across him doing Steve Harris bass review where he admitted not his kind of music but he learned the riffs of songs and then demonstrated other techniques that are equally good on Harris P bass. Uses the same Genz gear for every bass review i think so you can hear the differences between the basses to a certain degree. He runs the amps flat too. I'm not a slapper myself altho some mates might disagree with that statement I don't mind the occasional bit of slap but not the repetative "look how many slaps i can do in 1min" style. It needs to have something else maybe a groove or a feel of some kind to make me sit up and listen or grab my attention. Otherwise its just boring noise. Dave

  8. For me i prefer to be in a band with equal abilities that push each other to do better. If i was the worst player i would always be on the back foot and feel inferior. I certainly would learn more but at what cost ? If i was the best player i would feel i was wasting my time and wouldn't be able to play the songs i wanted. Would find it very limiting from a techical point of view. Think you need to find a balance between technical abilities and personalities to enjoy it in my opinion. That view would be different for those that are more serious about playing. I play to enjoy as a hobby rather than as a job so might have a different outlook on it. Dave

  10. I have the Orange OBC 115 & 210 cabs and using with my Ampeg SVT 4 Pro. Nice warm sound. I've considered the AD200b after trying a mates thru a 8x10 Hartke cab and it was full, warm and loud. It had a presence that my Ampeg or GK amps just don't have. Price put me off as i reckon you wouldn't notice the difference once a full band is playing and i would be thru a PA most times anyway. I did look at the other Orange amps but didn't see the point if i already have the Ampeg and GK1001rbii heads. I would like to see a head to head with the AD200b and the OB1-500 heads thru same cab. And to find out if they both sound full and warm in a band set up rather than just hearing the bass in a room on its own. Dave
  11. I start from everything being at "0" on both bass and amp. I'll tweak the amp for the location and from there i'll use my bass depending on acoustics of the room when audience arrives or how the band is changing sound during a set. I like to have some degree of control on the bass as its a little easier to tweak the bass than walk back to the amp. Jings how lazy does that sound Dave
  12. What amp are you using. ? Have you considered a twin channel amp altho that would still require a footswitch to change over channels. Amps with a switchable graphic might be an option. Pedal is far cheaper tho. Dave

[/quote] Using GK 1001 head with my Berg HT322 and it certainly covers all basses for me. Other smaller lightweight amps i have or used and liked GK MB series, Markbass heads and one i wish i had kept is the Genz Benz Streamliner 600 tube pre-amp. Really nice wee amp head. Dave
  14. Does your GK amp not have a headphone that you could using that instead of the TC output. That way you should be getting the sound you hear on stage other than the speaker cab difference. Is the TC delay a proper headphone output ? EDIT :- just checked my 1001 head and no headphone socket. It was my GK MB200 that has headphone socket. Sorry that idea is out the window. Dave
  15. I have the NG2 and the Dingwall basses are fantastic. Great necks, lightweight and for me quite a distinct sound. I trie both the NG2 and standard combustion and found standard had a wider variation of tone because the pick ups are seperate more. Great basses tho. GLWTS. Dave

  18. Quite a few surprises in this thread. Don't get the Kiss one tho. ? They've a huge fan base and they do put on a massive theatrical show. Maybe not the greatest musicians in the world and they have gone a bit pop but in their heyday they were pretty much top of their game. Afraid i am a Kiss fan at heart mainly their older stuff but I've never actually seen them live. Just goes to show how everyone's taste in music is so different. On the Jaco thing i can appreciate his talent but even as a bassist i couldn't listen to a full album of the stuff. Maybe in late 70's early 80's i might have just to perfect my own bass skills but not now. The Beatles one did confuse me a little too considering how many famous hit records they've had. Think if you lived in the heyday of some of the bands mentioned in the thread you may have had a different perspective off them but many of the younger bassists just don't get the older bands much the same as many of the older bassists (me included) don't get some of the modern bands. Life is a funny old thing Still it's made for an interesting thread. Dave

  22. For me its the Boyband or Girlband thing that i just don't get. Some of them will have maybe one person that is actually talented ie Gary Barlow but rest of the band are stage fillers. Would they survive as solo artists, probably not IMHO. Some of the other bands mentioned i'm not a fan of altho they had occasional songs i liked. Was never a huge fan of Stones either but when i hear their popular songs anywhere i kinda enjoy the odd song but couldn't listen to an album of them. Same with Beatles. Heard a tribute band at a mates 60th and was surprised how much i enjoyed them and new all the songs too. And they were my first single at age 3 All My Loving Even The Smiths i would like the occasional single but albus would be a NO NO. Death Metal thing i've never really got either but i think that is probably just an age thing. Dave
  23. Think the post explains why he's an ex-pro. Good musicians need to adapt to other people they play with whether they are Pros or Amatuers. Being a pro shouldn't make any difference in the way you behave and treat others. Best to move on and look at forming a new band without him. Dave

  25. Its not knocking the luthier but more asking the question of what makes this particular bass worth that kind of money. I'm a big fan off luthiers providing first class quality basses but you have to ask at what price and what are you getting for your money. I freely admitted that i don't know much about Lull basses hence asking the question. I bought an Overwater 6 string custom in 2010 and looked at many basses and couldn't see what the benefits were of the more expensive basses. I guess if you try a bass and it just feels right for you then money shouldn't be an issue if you can afford it of course. Think i'll have a wee look at Lull basses to see what they are all about. I do admit to liking the standard T bird shown above by Happy Jack. Dave
