1.
I wish to ban diabetics from shooting up in public, as it makes me and everyone I know want to get &^$%ed up on skag.
Absolutely hate it when people do that, there's no need for it at all.
 2.
If you give the audience something worth actually watching and don't go on for too long the nicotine addicts can plan their fix sessions around your set.
To hell with that. I'm not changing the set just to accommodate smokers habits. When I want a fag then we stop...
 3.
Btw, If I am ever in the Leicester area I'll show you the bass if you wish. Likewise if you find yourself 'oop North' any time let me know!
Absolutely mate. You might need a crowbar handy to make me let go though...
 4.
I've never been much of an Overwater fan, but I'm fully converted now!!! That is going to be absolutely stunning!! I've actually got goosebumps for you!
I've always had a little bit of a 'thing' for them, but this one... I know what you mean by goosebumps!
 5.
Every time I try to view a thread (any thread it seems) all I get is the 'Subscribe' page. Is this how BC is going to work from now or is it just teething problems?
Hi Ian, It was just a technical glitch.
 6.
How about a surcharge that allows swearing. I'd pay a tenner to be able to say 'f***ing ****' in a thread about, for example, B****** W*****.
I reckon a swear box that costs £10 a go is a much better idea... ...by my reckoning you owe us..... £1.2M
 7. Good morning fellow BCers. There appears to be a problem with the site this morning. I've tried to find out 'what' the problem is but haven't managed to do so yet. As soon as I find out any news I'll post back here with an update. Ian
 8.
Hmmm, that doesn't sound very simple, or easy to make happen. Thanks though.
Maybe not a DIY job, but any synth repairer would be able to do it - they'd just treat it as though the power supply was knackered.
 9.
I own a synthesiser that uses a 2P-AC1 connector. Google it if you want; it's not very exciting. The issue isn't that as such, though it is a bit of a pain. The issue is that the synth was bought in the States, so it has US voltage. To use it here in the UK, I need to plug said 2P-AC1 lead into a step-down (or is it a step-up) voltage converter, which is big and heavy and hot and clunky. And currently being used by some powered monitors.
It's step down - you're reducing 240V down to 110V.
My question: would it be possible, if I took this synth to someone who's handy with electronics and electrics and stuff, to just swap out that voltage power supply bit and replace it all with a standard kettle lead style connection, ready for UK voltage? Is it a relatively simple thing for someone (not me) to do?
Yep. The main 'guts' of the synth are universal. It'll need a new transformer, a replacement socket and a power board - part number 76160114 (I looked that number up by the way, I'm not THAT sad ) The hardest part will be cutting the casing back to fit the new IEC socket - they're not a direct swap for the 2P-AC1.
 10.
Impressive!
It's just the result of not having had a mis-spent youth... ...something I have been making up for over the last 20 years...
 11. It just gets better and better. Have you got any idea of how much longer [s]we[/s] <cough> you have to go before it's finished?
 12.
A simple way to achieve this would be to add a high-power 4 ohm resistor in series with the 4ohm cab, though of course this won't generate any additional sound energy and will just be a waste of power. But it would work electrically and the amp will be OK.
'High power' being the operative words here. The resistor needs to have a power rating equivalent to the rating of the speaker you are replacing it with. There's no point in stick a little 0.25W resistor from Maplins in there, it'll burn out before you get to the chorus.
 13. That's easy because I am an incredibly sad person. It's a 60320-C10. The hard bit is going to be finding one. I'd be more inclined to pull it out and replace it with the 'standard' IEC socket that we all know and love.
 14. Excellent I've always done pretty well for session work but it certainly got busier within weeks of my EUB debut. It'll get even better now I've worked out which end is up...
 15.
Same goes for Pledge or any other furniture polish. After a while there is build up from these products, which needs to be cleaned off.
Well that bit does sound about right As for the dire prognostications regarding lemon oil though... totally unconvinced I'm afraid.
 16. I was thinking 'Long, Long, Long' but decided that 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun' was far more appropriate...
 17.
I needed to get the green cack out
I love it when you guys start getting technical...
 18.
No, no to lemon oil!!! It will dry out your fingerboard. It's OK on sealed finishes.
I think you might have that the wrong way round. The majority of fingerboard cleaning products use lemon oil and state that they shouldn't be used on maple (sealed) finishes.
 19. Well a surge protector will help with surges (as the name suggests:)) but it's not going to help with dips. Legally, your energy provider can supply as little as 216V - less than that then you can escalate it to them to resolve. This is 216V at the meter end of the ring and you really need an electrician to test and monitor that. There's also the house wiring itself to consider. Dimming lights might appear to be an indicator of low voltage, but they are (or should be) on a different ring main to your mains sockets and may not be a particularly accurate indicator. It all rather depends on what an electrician finds. Something you can try without the involvement of an electrician is running your PC off of a UPS - that'll keep pumping out 230V regardless of what voltage is being fed into it (it'll even work for a few minutes if the mains power completely dies). I'm betting StingrayPete1977 will be along here shortly and give you some more advice.

 22. Well done and thanks for reporting back - it'll perhaps help someone else out at some point.
 23.
I don't think 24hr drinking has really had an impact on live music. True 24hr establishments are rare and don't cater for the sorts who would go to see a live band at 20:00hrs.
+1 It probably varies up and down the country, but around here there are no 24 hour pubs unless you go into the city centres. Of those, I can't think of many who actually have bands on. They just don't need to attract customers, they'll get all the punters they can get because they're one of the few places still open at silly o clock when everyone else has shut. As for the smoking ban, well it's been going on a long time now. Drinkers who stayed away from pubs because they were also smokers will have drifted back there by now on the basis that they're banned from smoking everywhere else so what's the difference?
 24.
Home cooking is killing ready meals?
Only if Home Cooking is running in the 3.15 at Doncaster...
 25. Seems to me that law and technology have got totally out of synch here. My understanding is that 'legal cases' are generally based on laws that are only indirectly applicable to the act of downloading digital data because the entertainment and legal industries didn't keep a more studied eye on technology. I have always bought a physical CD. I always rip it to my PC so 1) I will always have an undamaged copy and 2) it's more convenient to listen to in that format and location. Some of those also get burned to CDR so I can listen to it in my car. It may be illegal, but as far as I'm concerned, I am not sharing the CD and what I decide to do with it once I've paid for it is purely my business.
