I am very sorry you took this as an insult, it wasn't meant that way at all and the smiley was meant to show that.
That's OK, if you look you'll see that I put a at the end of my post, so everything's equal as far as I'm concerned.
The recession is not hitting every part of every market, in fact many business are booming, especially those that are able to adapt and work with consumers, rather than alienate them. Ebay/Gumtree started small and grew by adopting a business model that appealed to their users - not by burying their heads in the sand and blaming the recession. I am not trying to cause an argument, just simply putting some alternative views across, if you refuse to read the writing on the wall, fair enough
Fine, you're obviously the expert, although you might want to take a look at a better disguise for insults than sticking a smiley face on the end of the sentence.
Most forums default to one notification per reply to a topic. Since the upgrade a while ago, BC sends you a notification for every single reply. So... you don't actually have to visit BC to follow a thread, which means I'm not on there as often as I used to be. And I'm constantly getting reply notifications which is irritating. I've flagged it a few times and been told it's a bug which will be fixed... sometime.
Yeah I can appreciate that and we're still waiting. I just turned my notifications off in the end.
I do not agree that the recession is a significant factor and there is no evidence to show that in any of the above posts.
The recession is hitting every part of every market, either directly or indirectly. Basschat isn't exempt from that.
Some people have come out and said why they are selling elsewhere and it is not because of the recession - they simply don't like up front fees and they are not unusual in that, which may be why it is not common business practise.
By common business practise you mean 'it's not the same as Ebay/Gumtree' I presume? The thing that is being missed here is that Ebay/Gumtree and so forth all have hundreds or thousands of employees and £M's worth of infrastructure to provide them with ability to work in the way they do. We don't.
The economy and the new fee's are probably the easiest factors to blame , but I also think there is just a lack of confidence amongst prospective buyers as they prefer to hang on to the money they have , rather than buy themselves a new amp or bass. These days no job seems safe , even those working for civil service / government are not safe from the axe . People have just gone into self preservation mode
+1 That's pretty much the way I see it. I'm pretty sure that if we had implemented fees 'pre recession', we'd not be having this discussion now.
I'm in no hurry to sell the others, but the threads have been locked anyway, so I guess they'll quietly slip into the nether regions of the For Sale zone.
Pinned in each Marketplace forum is a notice regarding locked threads. It makes perfectly clear that if anyone has an old advert that is still valid, all it takes is a PM and it'll be unlocked. If I'm sat at my PC when the request arrives then it gets actioned within a minute - and that includes writing a PM back to the person to let them know it's been done. We really couldn't have made it any easier.

Understanding the difference between technique and technology.

The Sale\Trade field is actually needed to allow the 'under £50 free advert' facility, both from a technical and procedural perspective. Have you tried putting NO TRADES at the top of the ad? If people ignore something prominent like that, then I'd guess they aren't looking at the Sale\Trade Value field anyway.

Paul Simonons Precision? I hope this ones real!!!
icastle replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
By my reckoning Mr Simonon must have got through about 20 PB's a week... -
I'd suspect the compressor as a starting point.
This seems to be quite common. I wonder if there's something about regular posting on basschat that makes you... ...makes you... ...uh... ...y'know.... ....like I said.
Nothing to see here folks.... everything is OK.... why don't you go and post something.... you know you want to.... it's perfectly safe....

I arrived here via Google. I was shopping for a new rig at the time - everything I Googled had a link back here so I came, I saw, I stayed...

If the amp has ventilation slots on the top or bottom then having a somewhat larger case makes perfect sense. If it hasn't, then having that extra space will make no difference to it. As for fitting extra fans, it kinda depends on the case you decide on. If the case has a removable back, then there's no need - just try and ensure you select a case that isn't too deep.
-
Just to confirm, existing Ric copy ads (without pics) can remain until sold, traded or withdrawn. No further ads for them will be accepted. So, if anyone out there wants one of these at a good price, you need to get a move on and snap this one up while you have the opportunity - there won't be any others appearing for sale here.
However, musicians are still a very conservative (small c) bunch and to "make it" as a concert violinist it is almost expected that you will play an old instrument. Its a kudos/prestige/tradition thing as much as a musical thing.
+1 My fiddle is an 18th century Scottish one. I don't do it justice, but it does give me a sense of tradition to grow into.

If it's only a 2mm thick shard then it's probably repairable. I'd slide a stanley knife blade in there and gently prise it up (gently being the operative word here - you want to create a 'working space', not split the wood off or make the shard longer than it already is) and then get plenty of wood glue down there. Clamp it, wipe off the excess and leave it for a day. Wood glue is rather good - it has some pliability and dries stronger than the original wood.

IME, if you're working with more than one guitarist then forget the acoustic bass route. Even with a good quality acoustic bass you'll struggle to be heard.
-
It's not a Basschat bug . It seems to be an often reported bug with both Chrome and Safari and often when using an Iphone 4. A Google search will illicit plenty of ideas for a fix, some of which seem to work for some people some of the time. I can't really be any more specific than that as I don't have an 'iItem' to experiment on.
You are just angry at us because we have our youth
I'll have you know I have the heart and soul of a young man... ... I keep it in a Kilner jar in the basement...
