1.
you probably didn't have a computer to hide behind. Whilst I'm sure this lad wouldn't dream of calling a middle aged 100 kilo man a **** to his face, because he is tucked up safely in his room far away then he doesn't have to worry about the repercussions of his actions.
Yes, that's one of the problems with the internet, people manufacture personas for themselves that are laughably different from their real life ones - a huge overcompensation for their own ignorance and ineffectiveness IME. As for me, I just stay the same - I'm a complete kn*b in real life as well...
 2. Ah. Right. Leaving aside 'attitude' as many early teens have issues with growing up, timing is pretty dire and technique isn't great. Think it needs a lot more work before embarrasing oneself on the internet...
 3. Hartke fans can be a little noisy - I have an HA3000 (an HA3500 with parametric instead of graphic EQ) that I use as a spare and that is a little noisy.
 4.
There is no excuse, for example, for using an identical scratchplate to the fender brand, with pickups that are identical looking.
Those are just easily available stock parts that manufacturers use - in exactly the same way that car manufacturers use stock parts.
Ric 4001s, 4003s etc are a good example of individual thinking.
They are just an old design that was copyrighted (and vigorously defended) and therefore not copied to the same degree as the Fender body shape.
They could do all these advances in design, quality control, features etc without exactly copying someone elses designs.
I've tried out some 'other shape' basses over the years and I think the reality is that Leo Fender hit the nail on the head with the ergonomics of his body shape and the development of it too far from the original is going to lose that . Look at the basic idea of a car - 4 wheels on a chassis, people have tried to make a variation on that over the years and it's always turned out the same way - a complete flop.
 5.
Look at Warwick. Great basses and there own shape. Why can't others do that?
Because then we'd be moaning at the number of Warwick copies on the market?
 6.
Just need to find the right woman
LMAO - how come you always end up saying what I'm thinking but decide not to say it?
 7.
Isn't it the job of the aluminium pick-guard shield to join the pot casings together?
Nope. It's more decorative than functional - aluminium oxidises quite easily and the last thing you want is to be reliant on a good continuity path being found on an aluminium plate. Solder a wire between the pot casings while you've got the thing apart and you'll never have a problem - you can guarantee that if you don't it'll fail at the most inopportune moment
Excuse my ignorance but what / where are the earths on a Bass?
There will be an earth: From the bridge to the back of a pot From the back of one pot to the back of another From the jack socket to the back of a pot The back of a pot is your friend when it comes to finding an earth point
Also where do i wire the pickup ground plate to... this is all i need to know now.
I'll give you two guesses... and as long as one of those guesses is 'the back of a pot?' then I'll give you full marks
 8. Well that's not very helpful of them. Any chance you can post a picture of what it looks like?
 9. Not heard 'kick' used in context with a neck issue before. Perhaps it's just a colloqialism? As for the pots, I'd be inclined to squirt a couple of pence worth of switch cleaner in them and give them a bit of a clean out - it can work wonders and save you having to spend money on unnecessary replacements.
 10. Unfortunately, the UK importer (Headstock) don't deal directly with their customers as far as I'm aware. You need to go through an authorised Ibanez dealer who will order it for you. Current UK dealership page is here.
 11.
Hmm okay, so wire everything to the tone pot, what about the bridge, does that need to be grounded like on most bases... sorry im a total electrics and wiring amateur...
No need to be sorry - asking questions when you don't know the answer is smart . All the earths need to join up. All the pot casings need to be joined together, the wire from the bridge needs to join a pot case as does the earth wire from the jack socket.
 12. All of the grounds need to join together at some point and should then be connected to the slevve contact on the jack socket. Try this: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=std_pbass
 13.
I reckon its more the techs come up with a big sheet of specs that the marketing guys don't understand, and they pick one they like the look of.
Very few companies are driven by techs. IME the marketing guys decide on the item that they want to sell into the market based on what their competitors are producing and then get the techs to produce something that fits the price bracket. If techs designed amps the way they wanted to then they would weigh a ton and cost a fortune.
 14. Well, I've not seen one of these in real life but there is usually only one way in and I reckon you've found it! As for the cause of the power down, take a look at the internal fuses and replace any blown ones with the exact same type (there will be a 'T' or an 'F' before the rating of the fuse - it's important). Whatever happens, don't be tempted to use a higher rated fuse - if the fuse has blown, it has blown for a reason and I can pretty much guarantee that trying to circumvent the issue will cause damage way beyond the cost of a new amp to fix.
 15.
Not having a good experience with this forum at the moment... need to press the "back" button 2-3 times to get out of a page and the behaviour of arrow keys etc in edit is bizarre to say the least. Just put in a one line post and the laptop nearly had to have a flying lesson... Is it just me? New "vanilla" W7 + IE9 installion...
I had that as well in IE8. I suspected it was the 'facebook' plugin so I edited my hosts file to point facebook.com at 127.0.0.1 and the problem went away. Obviously this workaround means that all access to facebook is suspended. EDIT: I had the same problem with the Channel 4 website as well.
 16. There are so many different ways of measuring and expressing watts that quoted figures are pretty meaningless. My own suspicion is that the marketing people decide how many watts the amplifier needs and then the tech guys find a way of matching that figure to what they've built by mathematical manipulation.
 17. Well having just looked at a pic of one - there appear two be two screws on the sides of the cab that line up with the amp chassis. I'd undo those first and try sliding the chassis out. If that doesn't work then I'd undo the bolts holding the handle onto the top of the amp - they're often doing two jobs (holding the strap in place AND the amp chassis as well).
 18.
Hi Guys, i've just recently bought a 98 SVT-4 for £350 (Pretty good deal if you ask me). The only issue with it is the frequency cross over knob has snapped off and will need a new pot, how easy is this to replace myself or would it be a job for a pro?
Well the pot is 99% certain to be soldered directly onto the preamp PCB, so you'll need to be able to lift that out to get to the underside - generally meaning that you'll have to undo all of the pot retaining nuts from the front panel of the amp. Once you've done that it's just a case of desoldering the pot contacts, sliding the replacement in, resoldering and reassembling the amp. Not a major undertaking but it really depends on your manual dexterity and ability to wield a soldering iron.
 19. Wire the two cabs (or two speakers) in parallel. That'll give you a 4Ω impedance. Your amp is capable of supplying 300W into a 4Ω load. That means that each driver will need to be able to cope with 150W - you've got plenty of headroom there as you're using 250W speakers.
 20. Well, it's not surge protection - that's just a simple voltage regulator that disspiates any excess voltage as heat - anything that sees power up as a surge and then cuts out is a defect. Best guesses off the top of my head and without seeing the unit are:- 1) A faulty socket that is not switching between internal batteries and external PSU each time (it's a mechanical switch usually - think active bass output socket but in miniature). 2) You're using a power supply which has an adaptor plug on the end that is fractionally too small to push the switch back in a repeatable and consistant manner.
 21. Hmmm. How about falling off the edge of the stage into an audience of about 1500 people..?
 22. In a comms cabinet you generally find that several different phases are in use for resilience so at that point the use of a secondary earth point is always advisable. No real need for it in your particular application - though you could run a cable between the stud point and whatever metal chassis parts you can get a crimp eyelet onto.
 23.
Be careful, I might start throwing poo at you
This is BassChat - there's never any shi.... ok, point taken...
 24.
He he Perhaps an injection of monkey glands might help me speed up a bit!
Could you PLEASE stop swinging off that chandelier while I'm talking to you - it's very distracting...
 25. Chimp fingers aren't too bad when you consider the other chimp parts you could have ended up with!
