You can use one or two 8Ω cabs on the GP12 cab as it's quite happy running a 4Ω load. It's not a current production model, so information is scant, but the concensus seems to be that it'll provide 300W into 4Ω. Both of your speakers are perfectly safe on the GP12 regardless of whether you are running them singly or as a pair. HTH

What it actually says is +1 / -1. Both sockets are wired exactly the same and in parallel so you can use either or both of them (subject to not going below 2Ω). You can ditch that jack<>jack lead and use a second speakon cable from the second socket if that's what you fancy doing.

If you want a quick answer without the mathematics then use this.

As long as the amp is 19" or less wide then there will be a way of mounting it into a rack. There are all sorts of shelves, brackets and ears that you can get to mount just about anything given a little time and inginuity.
Can I put a request in for a tutorial on how to perform an emergency landing? Much sexier
Well if from any great height there are two things to remember: 1) Cross your legs on the way down. 2) Hold one arm up. You'll still die but at least by holding your hand up, the emergency services will know where to find you and the crossed legs makes it easy for them to unscrew you from the ground...

At what weight do you consider a bass to be heavy?
icastle replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I have and ESP LTD 6 which weighs in at just under 15lbs. Uncomfortable after a couple of hours but not too bad. -
It worked! A couple of squirts of switch cleaner and it's as good as new, thanks folks
Excellent!!! Next weeks tutorial will be 'How to perform an emergency appendectomy' so stay tuned...
Hmm. Seems like a bit of an oversight I agree. Hopefully there is a quick and easy mod that can be done to rectify the problem.
It'll probably be something daft like sticking a capacitor wired across the switch so it takes the 'thump' as the switch contacts connect.

Totally silent on my Peavey 750.

Whilst reading can be thoroughly recommended for certain musical activities, my feeling is that it can be a hinderance when it comes down to developing your own style and forming interpretations. Sort of like expecting artists to become great by using painting by numbers.
Is it possible to die of envy?
I've been buying odd bits and pieces for it for the last few years - electrical fittings, cable, recording equipment, a new sink, replacement doors - basically stuff that's been on 'special offer' and small enough to store. It already has mains and water supplies, I ran a bundle of ethernet cables down there in a buried plastic pipe water a few years ago while I was doing some other work and being at the far end of the garden there are no houses nearby. On the minus side, it used to be a dog kennels, so the interior has numerous breezeblock walls that need to come down and it needs a new roof. I'm gonna call it 'The Doghouse' as it's in keeping with it's original purpose and describes the place that many of us spend far too much time...

This is gonna be an interesting read. I've got a 15' x 40' brick built outhouse at the far end of my garden that I'm planning on starting to convert over the next few months...
The only tricky bit is gaining access to the pots, but that should only involve a few screws.
Yes. Once the top cover is off it's just a matter of tilting the amp until you can get a squirt of switch cleaner in there - accuracy isn't too important as long as some of it gets in there (a bit of kitchen roll screwed up and wedged into place to soak up the effects of gravity on fluid never goes amiss). The real pain is having to change the pot on the Hartke's - I've done a few of these and access to the underside of the circuit board was designed by a man with a screw fetish...
I thought you were looking for an amp tech who crackles!
As opposed to the witch in the bath who cackles...
-
It's dead easy. 1) Make sure the amp is unplugged from the mains. 2) Take the top cover off and locate the volume control. 3) The volume control has a gap on the bottom where the contacts come out and join the circuit board. 4) Using the straw that comes with your can of switch cleaner, give the control a good squirt into that gap. 5) Turn the control backwards and forwards quickly for 10 seconds - that'll dislodge any crud that has got in there. 6) Repeat the above to give it a final wash out. 7) Put the top cover back on and hopefully you'll be crackle free. If that doesn't work then the chances are that the pot needs replacing - not a difficult job in itself but takes a little while to do as a lot of the chassis needs to be dismantled to get to the underside of the board and requires some soldering skills. Spare parts are easily available from Korg (UK) who are the current Hartke importers.
Im running my bass through a sansamp, and its all good but as soon as i turn and face my cab, there is crazy feedback. how do i fix this?
I use a Fishman preamp with my EUB and if I grab the wrong lead during an instrument change and send an active bass through it, it squeals like hell. If you consider a 'normal' amplification chain it goes: SIGNAL -> PREAMP -> POWER AMP -> SPEAKER When I get it wrong it goes: SIGNAL -> PREAMP (active circuit) -> PREAMP (Fishman) -> PREAMP -> POWER AMP -> SPEAKER So way too much signal by the time the signal reaches the power amp. As a starting point in your scenario, I'd turn the sansamp down and the power amp up to compensate. Just to make things interesting, feedback can also be frequency specific, so some judicious tinkering with tone settings might also be called for.
There is also a problem with the cutting off and out this never used to happen with my old lead and only started with a new lead. i thought/think it will defiantly be the lead but my input jack is a bit wobbly. Is there a bigger possibility of it being the jack or the lead?
This happens quite a lot after using particular types of leads. I'd suspect that your original lead had a slightly oversized tip (used to make a more solid connection against the jack socket spring). This will, over a period of time, pushed the contact back. Your new lead probably lacks that oversized tip and the spring no longer makes contact with it. If it's an open 'skeleton' type socket then it's a relatively simple task to bend the contact back into the correct position, but if it's a sealed barrel type then replacing it is the only option.
So this is the horn I think would be perfect for my cabinet: Eminence APT-80 Would it be alright to just run it off the input on the cab or do I HAVE to put a crossover in there?
You can only run a piezo without a crossover. This isn't a piezo. The way to do it would be to make up a box for this unit with the crossover in it. Feed your amp into this box and wire up a feed from the crossover to take the unfiltered feed down to your Marshall.
I have a 410 tx cabinet. And want a 210 tx, but can't find one, will i get away with a TVX, different model, but still peavey, same ohms
The old TX and the new TVX are so similar that you'll not notice the difference. Same frequency response, power rating and impedance. The TVX is marginally larger than it's predecessor and has a different covering material. I think it was more of an image refresh than an attempt to make something different.
Why? 'cos I'm bored haha. I was playing through an Ampeg with a horn and 3 porting holes which sounded fantastic and just had that extra top end my Marshall's dont.
The Ampeg cab has a horn. The Marshall doesn't. If you start cutting holes in an attempt to make your Marshall sound like the Ampeg all you are going to achieve is sawdust!

How to keep/store a bass which won't be used for long

They can look really impressive if it's done well. The function band I play with went through a phase of GAS before I joined them and invested in some massive back screen projection thing but it was a PITA to transport and setup and eventually got sold off. Not sure how good (or practical) they are, but those little projectors that businesses use for PowerPoint presentations might be worth investigating...
