1. The reason they have a poor resale value is that people generally buy them under the 'it was a good idea at the time' banner and are then desperate to sell them off when they realise the practical limitations of having one in your life. The high prices and limited range supplied by manufacturers is all indicative of a product they are not mass producing to the same level as their smaller cabs - therefore the consumer demand relative to their smaller cabs isn't there. I reckon they're more of a throwback to the 70's where entire walls of cabs was equated to being 'serious'.
 2.
How did you know I play fretless a lot more, these days? with that tune there isnt much excuse. some, what?(from memory) 6 chords and a 20 min run time. ps you had thought about that one hadn't you? Fair play to ya W
Only 20 mins?
 3.
I know what "Ghost Notes" are, I'm talking about Lying, its a very different "technique"
Ah. You can't hide your lying A's And your slides, they're a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realise There ain't no way to hide your lying A's

Only spotting in white or chrome though.
Isn't that a Stenna Stair Lift? 5.
Ever tried doing that "sonic clunk" that you can do with fingernails,Pick, fingers or even your thumb? you must know that "Vague attack" to the string without making a real note 'till you find your feet. ....just me then....... top tip, or nonsense?
Nope. I presume you are talking about 'ghost' notes?
 6.
Slightly off topic, but I once attended a gig where the bassist broke a string mid song. He didn't quite throw his hands up and admit defeat... What he actually did was to shout "F*CK!!!" into the mic and storm offstage cue the entire band stopping the song and the vocalist awkwardly mumbling "Erm... has anyone got a spare bass?" True story!
Obviously a man with a bright future behind him. He still had 3 other strings to use and if he wasn't capable of playing something makeshift to cover the missing string problem then chances are that he didn't need all those pesky strings in the first place.
 7. Strontium and Barium are the two rare earth elements that spring to mind. Strontium is really common, Barium less so but still constitutes about 0.5% of the earths surface. The amount of rare earth used in a valve is very small so I don't think supplies are going to run out in the near future.
 8.
Without a multimeter how do you know which is which? Is there an online resource somewhere with manufacturer's specs?
It'll be written on the outside of the battery in very small writing somewhere in most cases.
 9. Have you checked that the battery in your bass is ok? As you've correctly surmised, a speaker generally doesn't just fade out if it blows.
 10.
Mine got this sort of chorusie effect going on. Was most weird had me checking all the patches on the FX box thinking I had added something by accident
If Microsoft made preamps, that'd be a feature...
 11. Two years is no time at all to master an instrument in. With anything that requires a degree of skill to master, there are always going to be a number of plateaus that will be hit. You will struggle to get past that plateau and onto the next learning curve - perserverance is the only answer to that and there are no shortcuts. As you hit the end of the next learning curve you'll find... another plateau. It's the way that 'learning' works. Being less than two years in, you really won't have developed a style of your own yet and slapping and tapping may not be as important as you seem to believe they are. If it makes you feel any better, I learnt how to slap back in the mid 80's as a matter of course because everyone else was doing it. By the beginning of the 90's I'd more or less stopped slapping and now, 20 years later, I can count on one hand the number of times I've used it in a serious musical setup in the last few years. Speed of playing is something that comes with time - it sounds to me as if you have become a little bit fixated with LH scale techniques at the expense of letting things 'flow'. So my advice would be to stop learning scales and master the one's you've already got - there will be plenty of time to learn obscure scales in improbable neck positions later.
 12.
Have to say I'd love to try the newer SR1200/1205 and SR5000E/5005E but I never seem to see them anywhere.
Yep. I have my eye on the SR5005E but my chances of finding a local store carrying a £2K bass are slimmer than the neck...
 13. Of course, if the band aren't capable of setting up in less thatn 3 hours you need to do the maths the other way round and make sure you're setting up three hours before you're due to play... When we play functions we setup during the afternoon so that we just get on the stage when we arrive back there and play - we never faff about wiring stuff up and soundchecking in front of the audience.
 14.
yeah it came with some batt i have never heard of so was changing it toa new duracell one when i tried it without
LMAO. Ignore me - I read it as 'charge' instead of 'change'.

 16.
Keep a spare battery handy and when it sounds like youve blown a speaker in the amp its time to change it (thats what mine sounds like anyway)
Yep. The output starts distorting and the volume gets lower and lower. Incidentally Christhammer - 9V rechargeable batteries are only 7.2V when fully charged so it's not a great idea using them in a bass. I use bog standard Duracell ones and change them every 6 months or so.
 17.
cheers thought there was something wrong with it but alas no its just me being a complete dick
No problem. Some active basses will work in passive mode without a battery, but the SR300 isn't one of them.
 18.
i know this is gonna sound stupid as hell i have just bought an ibanez sr300 my first bass with active electronics obviously it have the battery in the back which i took out to change earlier but i didnt get no sound from my bass my ? is do i need the battery in to achieve sound i thought i would still be able to get sound without the battery in even of a weaker signal thanks jamie
Nope. You have to have a battery in there to get any sound at all.
 19.
So are Markbass. Stating '40hz - 20khz' is pretty meaningless without knowing how many dB that's accurate to. Though they already know that.
Yep. I use the following equation: X+Y=Z Where X is 'looks right', Y is 'sounds right' and Z='it is right'

 22. It used to take us far too long to setup and ran me ragged as well. We now have set 'jobs' and the thing is run like a military operation - so much more organised.

 25.
This made me chuckle. Not an idiot, just a bloke! Don't read the manual or inventory after purchase
+1 My one and only foray into Ikea flat pack furniture left me with a pile of spare parts that I never did find a use for and a wardrobe that collapsed when I tried moving it into it's final resting place...
