1. Great, thanks. They do vary quite a bit.
2. What's the weight?
3. Available again. Bass can be checked out in Central London. £1500. I leave this open on here for a couple of weeks before it'll go the Gallery.
4.
As stated previously, your best course of action would be to buy a late 80s/early 90s 2 band EQ Stingray with lacquered figured neck. It would have all the features of a Classic Stingray except strings through the body, but would have a contoured body.
That's exactly it. They're out there and they're fantastic instruments. And, whereas the Classics all have ash bodies, with the late 80s/early 90s Stingrays, you even have a 'choice' of body wood, depending on colour. Many were done over ash as well but there are also the Bluebursts which generally had poplar bodies or the Trans Reds which were over alder. Worth exploring, and they won't cost you as much as a Classic either. Another thing, apart from the different fingerboard radius, is that the pre-1990 SR4s have a 4-bolt neck with the truss adjuster at the headstock. Looks great and it's just as easy to operate. A couple of samples: 1989 Sunburst 1987 Trans Red
5. You'd be paying a significant amount to devalue your bass by a significant amount.
6.
No actually they are both relatively light! EDIT: Just weighed them and they both weigh around 8.75lbs
Trans Reds from around that time usually have alder bodies. They tend to be among the lighter StingRays. Great looking basses - bet they sound amazing too! In my experience, you can't really go wrong with instruments from that era, mid-eighties to mid-nineties - some of the best years for EBMMs!
7. Nice. The colour is the equivalent of what would later become Honeyburst - however, in 1994 this was still called Sunburst.
8. Yes, I still have it.
9. You call this wear? Take a look at this one then - a 1961 stack-knob which was sold several years ago by an American dealer:
10.

Utterly Godawful condition - check
Absolutely NOT all original - check
Owned by famous musician but not particularly associated with him - check
Completely irrelevant mention of famous band - check
Ludicrously inflated price - double check with bells on
What's not to like?
Well, they never claim it being all original. 'Mention of famous band' - where?
11. Yours for £16K. Changed pots, repair on the body. Decal looks like a replacement. Bet it sounds amazing though! 12. Very nice. Do yourself a favour and post the pics directly to the ad, like this:
13. Great looking bass - but 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs), are you sure? That would be the lightest Stingray (let alone `Stingray 5!) I've ever heard of...
14. I have a 1992 just like that, 2-band with the rosewood neck, Sunburst finish (as it was called back then - the equivalent of today's Honeyburst). Those are super instruments, I bought mine from new, one of my best sounding Stingrays, still have it, will never sell it. Great price, too!
15. Sterling Ball talking about the history behind the 40th Anniversary StingRay, Old Smoothie: https://www.youtube....h?v=R2ZRWzEBIzE I tried the one Strings & Things brought to the London Show recently. Due to the noise levels in the hall you couldn't really judge the sound, but the neck - profile and low frets - did feel great. Finish looked beautiful. Another winner from EBMM!
16. Hard to say about the binding from the pic which is out of focus. Do you have one showing the 12th fret side dots?
17. Still the same pics though, aren't they?
18. Can you post a pic showing the bass side of the binding (with the dots), please? Also, in your Photobucket set there's a pic of the back of the headstock with a different set of tuners on but it's difficult to tell whether it's actually from the same bass?
19. Didn't see this one when it was live... The date in the description is around ten years off. Photos aren't great but still the most incredible bargain I've seen in a long time, if real! 20. Did a bit of random bass weighing recently... 1964 Fender Precision 8.8 lbs (without covers/thumbrest) 1983 62 RI Fender Jazz 8.8 lbs (without covers/thumbrest) 1987 EBMM SR4 8.5 lbs 1989 EBMM SR5 9.8 lbs 1998 EBMM SR4 9.3 lbs 2007 EBMM SR4 8.2 lbs
21. Very nice. Where do you adjust the truss rod on those?
22. Very nice. Do you know the year of manufacture?
