1. More pics would be good. Also exact weight. Which year was it made in? Does it come with the original case?
2. Nice weight for a SR5. Body wood is probably alder which was generally used for Trans Red finishes back then. They tend to have a lovely, warm sound, less scooped than ash.
3. Looks great! Lacquered neck? What's the weight? Do you have the original case?
4. EBMM. Very high and consistent quality over the last 30 years.
5.
Taking the neck off will be the true test. Should have small date stamp on the body socket, and big stamp on the neck end, e.g. 7NOV62A. Also good to check that the solder under the pickups and control panel is original.
It's a slab board, so the neck date will be earlier than November '62. Along with the serial number, my guess would be mid-year at the latest, but it's not an exact science, of course. Handwritten if it's pre-March, after that stamped. Not all bodies were dated. If they were, you'd find a (handwritten) date in one of the pickup cavities. However, refin or not, this finish looks like Olympic White - hence opaque, meaning you're unlikely to see a date through the finish either way. But you're right, more pics, with higher resolution, would help. Neck date, neck pocket, neck heel. Also pots, control cavity and bridge. Plus pickups and body under the guard but removing the old guards can be tricky due to shrinkage. Are the mutes still present?
6.
There hasnt been decent Bond theme since Maccas Live and Let Die.
Actually, there were quite a few... Nobody Does It Better, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, Licence To Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough. Some even rate A View To A Kill.
7.
after skyfall tho this really is horse crap!
So was Skyfall. (Apart from the comedy drum fill into the chorus, obviously.)
8. Do you have the original control plate as well?
9. Joe Jackson - Body and Soul.
10. Very nice. Was this a special order? (Their 5-string P basses are usually 1 7/8" at the nut, as far as I know.)
11. Would this be an option? http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories-c2/string-muters-c63/gruv-gear-gruv-gear-fump-bass-bridge-muter-dampener-p10306
12. I don't think the colour would have been called just 'red'. Whatever those two (illegible) letters stand for, will provide the full name. Not that it matters all that much but from a historical point of view it would be interesting... You'd probably have to ask someone at EBMM who was already there back then, like Dudley Gimpel.
13. Very nice. I remember the bass from when it was on Ebay a few months ago. The page is still up. Lovely rosewood board. What colour is this actually? There's a pic included of the neck pocket, and the stamp reads REDXX, with the two last digits illegible. 14. This one? http://thebassgallery.com/bass/5-string/vj5.html
15. Final price drop - £1500.
16. Bank holiday bump.
17. I should add that I'm not looking for trades.
