1. Just caught this on BBC4 again. Paul Moore is great on electric and upright. Am ashamed to say I'd never heard of him till now, but was very impressed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b068fvks/van-morrison-up-on-cyprus-avenue
2. Only just watched episode 2, but like many others thought The Caffreys were just fantastic, as did Mrs CP. She even suggested we should get up there to see you guys play at some point. Really well done WOT, all the best.
3. Not uncommon for bands to be followed after gigs to wherever they are staying / parking. Like Lozz I always take my bass into the hotel with me, no matter what.
4. Did this occur when the band actually played live? If so am really surprised it didn't cut off. From my experience pre recorded/compressed music could be made to play/sound a lot louder than a live band. Am guessing it's the transient peaks that a band gives out that can trip sound meters. With my old band it was usually cymbals and snare drums that were the main culprits, although their red lighting the meter tended to be in sharp bursts. However, add a trumpet and screaming guitar and then off it went. One residency we had, we got round this by running the mains for the band not from the stage but from a conveniently placed cigarette machine. Did this for years, never got rumbled. Have to say though that the meter would set off so easily, making playing even at moderate levels impossible, with the band watching the meter all the time. Not fun.
5. Something I've often wondered myself. Even with little use you would imagine just ageing alone would take it's toll at some point? Having said that, I have a Marshall 18 watt guitar combo from the late 60's, and the 12" Celestion still sounds wonderful. Anyone else?
6. Agree with the above post - when I'm not busy working with my band then have more time to browse for stuff. We have various 'layoffs' during the year, but I do manage to keep my hand in with pub gigs/deps. Just back into regular gigging again now, and it's feeling great. Restrung / cleaned my bass and the first night was a blast - surprising how a break can reinvigorate you. Also was considering changing my rig, but after these last few dates am going to stick with it. So a possible (temporary?) GAS cure for me.
7.
I tried a friend's Spirit I think. It felt very strange with no headstock and little body to speak of. My fingers didn't know where they were on the frets. The headstock must be a reference point for finger-memory.
I had the same problem with a Hohner B2A. Think it was down to the postioning of the upper strap button which caused the neck to sit a bit further away than I would have liked, resulting in a few one & sometimes 2 frets out moments! Seem to remember a bracket for the strap that Steinberger used on their models which eliminated this, so guess it must have been a common problem.
8. Thought I was nearly out of GAS, and then a 50's style hollow body comes along and I'm drooling. Must stay strong.......
9. In my younger days it was always a trip to a local Indian restaurant, probably spending most of my earnings from the gig. Then I went through a pizza phase. And now? Bug*er all, as I find in my advancing years that if I eat anything substantial late at night I will suffer a food hangover next day. Great getting old ain't it.....
10. On hold until the weekend ( for non BC person.)
11.
If it's anything like the one on a Peavey power amp I had yonks back, it's just to limit the potentially damaging peaks at high volumes without otherwise affecting (or effecting) the signal, so to be at all audible you'd have to be rattling the house.. probably not hear it anyway! :-D
Years ago I had a great Peavey 210 watt 400 series head. Believe the earlier ones (Mk111?) didn't have the DDT Peavey limiter thing, and was a great amp. However, I later got the updated Mk1V which did have it, and it seemed to kill the spirit of the thing. Got my amp tech guy to disable it and voila! Opened up the whole performance of the amp.
12. Not that much help, but had a GK Neo 410 for a few years now and no problems with the speakers. Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly I'm sure.
13. Love a good cheap bass. There's something great about it not costing the earth that makes it so enjoyable for me. My Dano Longhorn is just that, wouldn't part with it. Also got a P-bass replica which is fantastic and probably didn't cost as much as the case it's kept in.
14. Blimey, tough crowd...........okay, £99. Virtually brand new cab for 1/3 of the price.
15. Okay, £110 anyone? And possible help with delivery / meet up, depending on where and when.
16. Yup, great viewing. All the bands were interesting, and agree about the winning two. Rhod Gilbert and Midge Ure both came across well I thought, very funny and genuine. Will be watching next episode with interest - Hooky from Joy Division, then the week after Jazzy B.
17. Am guessing I should have arranged a commission deal with Amazon....
18. I put my Dano Longhorn in a guitar gigbag, fits perfectly. It is a 30.5" short scale bass though, with a fairly compact design.
19. OBBM - job done. Best there are / most cost effective option in the long run too. Buy cheap buy twice and all that.....
20. A 'Crikey, thought this was bargain of the week' type bump.
21. As I stated on another thread, I'm reluctant to spend a fair wedge on a good class D amp, only to then apparently need to spend more dosh on a pedal in order to make the thing work properly. YMMV.
22. Also handy when flight casing a cab. FWIW I prefer the sound of my 4x10 without the castors too.
23. Selling my Hartke 410 XL cabinet. It is in virtually as new condition, having only been used a few times since purchase as it's just been a spare cab. 24. Been looking at getting another of these as a spare for my spare! Cracking pedal for the money, even if you just use it as a DI. Good deal here including p&p too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-Modeler-Guitar-Effects-Pedal/dp/B000KIPUQG/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1464436800&sr=1-1&keywords=behringer+bdi+21
