2. EDIT: Thank you for taking the time to read this and post responses. The position has now been filled. Hello! Who are we?: We are Doyle & The Fourfathers, an alternative/indie/pop band originally from Southampton (now split between London and Southampton). We have been going since September 2009 and in that time we have managed to build up a loyal fanbase, strike a management deal, release an album on our own record label, play plenty of gigs and accrue some good radio airplay (especially from the likes of BBC6 Music of which we have performed 2 live sessions for the Marc Riley show, among other things). Why are we posting an ad here?: All of us have ambitions to make a career out of the band and our music and so after this summer we will really be pushing to build a more significant presence in the national music scene by recording an EP which we are currently writing. Due to our desired sound, we have had to use backing tracks with various keyboards, strings, brass etc. to create a fuller texture in a live context. We feel we have outgrown this method and would like to inject some spontaneity, fluidity and excitement back into our performances. Our influences? Hear for yourself at the MySpace and Youtube links on this ad but some of our collective influences consist of the following: The Smiths, The Beatles, Scott Walker, Elbow, David Bowie, The Fall, Blur, Radiohead, Pulp Between all 4 of us, we enjoy and are influenced by a large range of styles in music, so anything goes really. The bands listed above are just a guideline for our general style. What are we looking for?: What we are looking for exactly is a multi-instrumentalist with some or any combination of the following skills - Primary requirements: Trumpet (or similarly ranged Brass instrument) OR Violin/Viola/Cello Intermediate Keyboard knowledge. Additional preferred skills: Ability to provide backing vocals/harmonies. Moderate guitar knowledge. (In case the opportunity arises). We will gladly provide our own keyboard instruments for you to play, so owning a keyboard is not a requirement at this stage. Other criteria: Someone within the age range of 19-25 preferably. Male or Female, no prejudice here! We need someone who is available to tour/record and fulfil other obligations at potentially short notice. We operate on a system of good communication so nothing will be sprung upon you. Someone who is available to rehearse regularly. Someone who is punctual, ambitious and passionate and someone who is fairly adept in social situations. If you feel you may fit the person outlined above, then contact us now! We look forward to hearing you. Thankyou, DT4F x http://www.myspace.com/doyleandthefourfathers http://www.facebook.com/doyleandthefourfathers http://www.youtube.com/user/DT4Fs @DT4F - Twitter
3. off the top of my head this is probably my favourite i quite like the bass riff here to be honest i don't really know many tracks that have bass intros
4. im pretty sure it was bigmouth strikes again by the smiths
5. use flats on my gretsch, much prefer them to rounds. its easy to play for a very long time with flats. however i am considering moving to half round strings for recording.
6.
Ok, what if punishable by death?
i'd go out with a bang
7. It depends how you market yourself for live performances. If people are expecting originals and hear more covers, it won't necessarily go down well and vice versa.
8. we've finished our tour with the undertones. absolutely brilliant.

9. Ideally you'd use a hollow bodied bass - yes they resonate and feedback easier than standard bass guitars, but if you're in a country band then its not like you'll need to have your amp cranked. I have the gretsch bass you linked to (well the slightly older model) and although it would sound great for the country band set up, you can get much cheaper alternatives that prove just as effective for your set up. Try the epiphone jack casady bass!
10. its entirely dependant on the context of the song
11. first bass owned: Epiphone Viola bass 'go to' bass: Gretsch Broadkaster bass 'your bass: Gretsch Broadkaster bass
12. i use dunlop tortex .6mm. bright orange ones. perfect pick for me
