1. our cricket teams motto was 'There's always next time.'
2. Recording brass is the best, second only to recording strings. the last batch of brass recordings we did, it was with Paddy Kingsland at his studio in Hammersmith - he certainly knows his way round a brass section!
3.
Cheers Michael! Can't believe I didn't think of that.
4. I have a Gretsch Broadkaster G6119B if you want to ask any questions about it http://www.gretschguitars.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/gretsch-321673207500178210.jpg
5. i try and lock the bass in with the other instruments. sometimes i follow the drums, sometimes i lead them. sometimes i embellish a song with melodic or intricate (RE: fiddly bits) parts, other times i make sure what i play is dynamically subtle and restrained. Knowing the chordal structure to a song is a good and bad thing. sometimes it helps me come up with good bass parts, other times it hinders me a bit because i'm too tempted to stick to an obvious note in the chord. it sometimes helps if i actively make sure i don't know the chords because then i can play by ear and force myself to come up with inventive lines yawn
6.
Just wondering if the VB was still up for grabs thanks in advance
It is indeed
7. this was at the albert hall and is how i look most of the time. i very rarely play with my fingers
8. slap bass is for wannabe drummers
9. I'm 99% sure its an EKO bass. I'm looking up the model name now. could be a florentine model... does he know how old it is roughly?
10. predominantly plectrum, occasionally fingers. its an 80/20 split in favour of picks
11. our drummer usually plays the most embarassing song of all time* *probably
12.
Could be, however geography may be a problem, do you ever get up the midlands??
I have access to a car and getting up to the midlands isn't a problem! I didn't see how much you wanted for the EB3 - how much are we talking? I'm happy to arrange a trip up to try one anothers guitars. Michael
13. Hi Richard, Would you consider, as a part exchange, one of the basses I am currently selling? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=142035
14. Looking to sell my Epiphone short scale Viola Bass. I've had it for nearly 2 years, have used it as a practise bass for a while now. I've kept it in as good condition as possible, NO dents or serious marking. Edit: turns out there are a couple of marks which the friend I lent it to made . The output jack is slightly loose but can be easily tightened. Its a great beginner/intermediate bass and a good bass for people looking to have a taste of classic hollow-body tone. It comes with a soft gig bag and strap. Am based in Southampton - PM for meet-up arrangements or postage arrangements. Thank you! 15. After buying 4-string-things Stagg EUB from him a few months ago here, I've fallen for upright basses and decided it is time to move the Stagg on in favour of a new EUB. I've taken excellent care of it and I'd say its in very good, almost 'like new' condition. There are a few faint marks on the fingerboard from where its been played, but this does not affect sound or appearance. It comes with all the bits including a gig bag and a stand which Mark made. As Mark said, its a great bass for someone looking to dabble in the world of upright without spending shed-loads. I am based in Southampton however I have access to a car so can arrange a meet up point - PM to discuss. Postage will not be possible. I bought it for £235 and couldn't bare to see it go for less! 16. Thank you to dood for stepping in! I understand this is a 'bass specific' forum, however there are some dedicated musicians on here so I thought there would be no harm in putting up the ad.
PS: Michael, if you ever decide to sell the Stagg, can I have first refusal? I'm missing it!
Hi Mark! I have taken good care of the Stagg and had some quality use with it. I am starting to save for a new EUB and have had some thoughts about moving the Stagg on. Since you were the one who converted me to EUB I will gladly PM you when I make the decision. You'll hear from me soon!
17.
I'm a multi-instrumentalist, I can play bass, kazoo, and this thing: It's a unique instrument that I think would really thicken up your 'sound'! I'm studying in bristol, but will come to rehearsals the odd time i come home to london (a weekend every few months). Just let me know
Thank you very much for your response. I'm saddened to inform you the position has been filled.
18. not a good idea to drink before you go on, it makes your timing sloppy and has a negative effect on your voice
