Sansamp D.I.
Anyone have one of the Behringer 'copies' Bass DI - the one which has the same functions on the controls and goes for about £28 - £30 ?
i had one till it got fried. to my ears, if you want a speaker/amp emulator then go for the behringer - i'm not sure i'd trust it on stage (being mainly plastic and all), but for home/studio use it's great...and you're not forking out lots of money for it either. imho the mxr di + pi55es on the sansamp from a great height...the sansamp made my bass sound good at home on my own, but the mid-cut just sucked the life out my tone live. the mxr's got a better eq and the distortion's better. ymmv of course
Im also curious to know wether FX imported from the US will work ok on UK power supplies such as EHX, Boss etc?
i'd imagine you'd need a new adaptor, but as all the pedal sees is 9V dc i can't see how it would make a difference what the ac input to the wall wart is.
3.
Make your own
plus the one...neutrik jacks and van damme cable...i've got two that have lasted me about 10 years.
4. i wonder if the screws missing from the bridge were original ?
5.
I prefer this T-shirt Anyone identify them all?
no stingray ?
6. on the plus side i've always thought it's better if someone quits than just becomes uninterested. you may be miffed he's leaving old horse, but at least he's told you outright rather than just becoming less and less interested and dragging you all down as well.
7. thanks for the advice folks...
8. seeing as it's brand new and has only been out of the box twice, i'd say £40 + p&p
9. i've got an old HH 100w 1x15" cab in my front room. girlfren keeps asking me how long it's going to be part of the furniture...
10. it's a great little unit, but i'm just not going to get the use from it that i thought. mint condition - only used a few times, with box and manuals and blurb. before it goes on ebay: £50 all in
11.
Ooooh, now would brass give any sonic benefits
/clenches fist/ why i ouughta !!
12. good song. it sounds less 'graceland' and more C86 to my ears.
13.
Why not just get one made, would be cheaper. All you need to do is find someone with ability to cut (and drill) small piece of steel plate possibly 2mm to size - a backstreet welder, or small engineering workshop etc. If you had a decent jigsaw & file, you could probably do it yourself - don't throw your money away on a new bridge!
hmmm....good plan. although 'backstreet welder' sounds...well....highly dubious !!
14.
When I fitted a Schaller bridge to a Fender Musicmaster many years ago, I had exactly the same problem. I fitted a plate underneath to bring the bridge up a bit. It's not a trussrod related problem. The plate I used was Schaller one, made no doubt in anticipation of this problem, but I'm sure you could either make or get made something similar to suit your needs, and would be cheaper. Hope this helps, good luck with the build.
it does indeed - many thanks darn...now i actually have to go buy a new schaller bridge just to get the shim !!
15.
Although it probably says something faintly worrying about me that I read the topic title as "Felching T-Shirt"...
i did too.....
16. yeah, i've tried using the bridge to raise the action, but that didn't work. as for checking the relief, at the moment the strings are so flat against the neck that it's not possible. i wish i could remember if i used the schaller bridge plate when i did the first fit...although i'm beginning to think that i must have.
17. i want a t-shirt that says 'bring the maths'

i never learn

despite selling mine to a friend years ago and not liking my little big muff too much... i've just bought myself one of these from ebay it was a good price, and i can always just sit on it for a few years as the mystique accumulates.
19. well, i restrung the sabre with the warwicks and i'm impressed so far - nice under the fingers and with a bit more give in them than the elites (if that's a real thing i don't know, but it's they way they feel). we'll have to see how they perform over time, but this may have opened the way to trying other makes of strings. just don't tell the elites i'm two-timing them !
20.
don't bother with valve pedals that run off 9v adapters.
i was wondering about this the other day - some manufacturers (ehx ??) claim that the valves in their units powered by 9v do run at 'proper' voltages (using diode ladders ?? or somesuch). anyone know anything about this ? it's way above my 'tronics knowledge. as for the original question, i can't really help, sorry.
21. nice bit 'o wood !
22. i've got the boss syb-5 and i'm in a similar situation. i only really use it to create synthy swells during the drone sections of the live set. i'd bought it to use with the drum and bass band i lay with, but it was a bit too in your face for that. i think it's very much a case of less is more, and i'm sure it's great for your zender-stylee sounds, but if i don't warm to it soon i'll be bunging it up for sale.
23. i'm now working on the 'pookbass', which is a body and glued-in neck i bought a while back from ebay, and had howard of howard's bass place do some work on (gives you an idea of how long i've had it !!) now that the other project i was working on hasn't worked out, i'm determined for this one to work. i mounted the schaller bridge and machine heads last night, but i've come across a problem...the strings lie against the neck, so they can't even vibrate. now - is this a trussrod issue or will i have to jack the bridge up by a bit ? the schaller bridge i originally used came with an insert to raise it off the body a bit, but that's been sold to a friend years ago, and the one i'm using now hasn't got the 'shim' do i need a bridge with more 'height' ? i don't remember this problem from the first fitting of the parts, but i'm not sure if i used the 'shim' last time... any ideas would be great
24.
No, it's a Philips cryogenic, specially chosen by the Dood. He did the research for the upgrade and then fitted the valves. Have a look on Watford Valves' website at their spec and properties.
thanks
25. the body's been junked now...as i said, whatever the cause i can't play an instrument that i don't feel i can trust. i'm now working on the other bass i was building up...expect another tread soon !!!
