1. The heel is 64mm wide (at its widest point and slims down to 60mm going into the neck proper.
2.
I think effects on double bass are super-cool ( awwwww yeahhhhh)
First thing that I thought of when I read the topic of this thread - this album in particular is amazing.
3.
whats the width at the heel of the neck?
I'll have a look tonight.
4. The best (uncoloured) headphone amp I've had so far is the EHX Headphone amp, really compact and clean. It's made of metal too, so VERY not plasticky.
5.
And I want to play with her maracas...
easy now, down with that sort of thing. Kid's obviously put some work into that, and I enjoyed his playing.
6.
Make them an offer for the bass, perhaps you can get it for a low price!
You could explain that your uncle has room in his loft for it, and you're buying it as a gift...
7. Played at a friend's wedding this morning. Lovely do, beautiful old (and I mean old) church, unfortunately it had old wiring to boot. Tried a new mixer that I borrowed from a mate at work and stuff just whistled. Pulled my 30 year old studiomaster out of the boot and 5 minutes later we've got a great, clear sound. All in all, a good do.
8.
its good practice to always have the tuner as the first box in the signal chain - that way you can ensure that the tuner receives the cleanest signal which means most accurate tuning
Aah, mine is later in the chain, does this explain some of my fretless 'moments'?
9. Lovely offer, but distance and gigs permit me from popping round.
10.
It's not really a case of what is being reviewed that bothers me, it's the fact that practically everything gets a pretty positive review. I mainly buy it for the backpage stuff, the lessons and the like. I think the section on other bassists from not very well known bands is a pretty good section, gives coverage for quiet promising acts and opens up readers to new music.
All of this. I used to enjoy the technique stuff when there was a bit more variation (solo bass arrangements, more theory based stuff), but now I've outgrown the cycle of funk / learn to read music / triad shapes that seem to frequent bass magazines. That's my fault though, not BGMs.
11. we got a load of Carlsbro things for our BTEC course. Our students still managed to kill some of them , but most remained intact. We don't deliver BTEC anymore and this is one of the reasons why.
12. Yeah, I'd give the flea bass a WIIIIIIDDDDEEEE berth. £200 will get you a really good squire VM Jazz bass which is a far better bass in terms of playability, sounds, feel - pretty much everything
13.
Do you play to a metronome? If I set the murf to a pattern & we start off in time with it & then turn it off for something like a verse, when I bring it back in the tempo is out.
Not at all - the freeze won't do looping of phrases, but generates drones based on your input signal - a bit like this:
14. Another bump for a superb preamp. I'm so impressed with them that they are a 'standard upgrade' here at _5 towers.
15.
Yeah it is nice for droney stuff, or just filling out a sound under a bassline. think I'm gonna flog it though cos you can do similar with the hold setting on the DD-6
The freeze pedals get loads more useful once you put them in a loop. I regularly set mine droning a chord or double-stop up the dusty end and then when the guitarist dives into a solo just bring it back in without stopping the bass part. The trick is finding one chord or note that will fit with everything else...
16.
I always wanted to go & see him in the Rio whenever we went to Vegas. Finally the Mrs said we could go & see him back in 2007 & He stopped his residency there! However, Bjork did a gig in the Palms & it was awesome!!!
...must have been a 'short people' convention or something
17. Brilliant, just brilliant. Lovely growly Jazz Bass tone too.
18. Most Jazz basses have a point on the neck (roughly 4th or 5th fret) where the fundamental dies away really quickly, leaving you with only the harmonics - this might explain some of what's happening. I was chatting to a luthier about this a while ago - it's something to do with the mass of the headstock. He suggested clamping a heavy piece of wood to the back of the headstock to increase its mass, and thereby allowing ALL of the note to sound properly.
been there done that. Best one is not plugging in a power supply
Did that last night - trying to measure voltages in a transistor and everything read 'ZERO' - I'd forgotten to connect the battery. Again, much hilarity ensued...
20. Looks like vintage yacht varnish though...
21.
ha ha its your round...
Fine - I'll buy you a pint of whatever you like for every song that you get right..... ...not bought a beer for a while
22. Dear God - there's more!!!
23. I posted this a couple of weeks ago in the hope that somebody on here would own up to it, but it's still funny (and a little bit relevant), so here it is again...
24. Drummer at last night's rehearsal - "I could do it, but I'd have to unlearn (sic) everything that I do, then learn that" - dafuq?
25. yowsa, the best Chillis album bar none - thanks a million for this.
