I use mine (DHA VT1 EQ) to get some valve crutch into my tone when I'm playing with the NWOBHM band. I mainly play a fretless HH Jazz into my amp and it's lovely and clean. My amp (SWR SM400) just won't do 'dirty'. It's ridiculously well designed and (try as I might) just won't break up anywhere near as much as I need for heavier sets. It was tons cheaper to get a pre pedal than to buy a 400W valve head just for certain gigs.

My amp (not a Kilo) tends to make unwanted noise after I've been playing for about 10 minutes. At first I thought it was the tube, so I took it to a tech, and after a could of hours of me describing the fault (and some fairly extensive oscilloscope work on his part) we came to the conclusion that the amp is fine, I'm just a godawful bassist.

AAAAGGGGHHHH. I tried trimming mine and it went a bit wonky on one side, so I kept trying to even it up and ended up with a Hitler! Deference to my left-wing ideals necessitated its removal. Sorry chaps.

Should I be worried this being habit forming?

if they're both 8Ω then there's less chance of a mismatch. Two 8Ω cabs in parallel will give you a 4Ω load and in series will give you 16Ω. The danger comes when you present a load (ohms) that is too small for an amp, some valve amps will tolerate a 2Ω load, but most amps state 4Ω minimum. The minimum impedance (ohmage) should be on the back of the amp near the speaker connectors. So long as you don't give it more than about 300W then you should be fine . Nice looking rig, by the way.

I know it's not what we need just before christmas hits, but Waves currently have a sale on some of their plugins (older Renaissance stuff generally) - these can be had for less than £50. http://www.waves.com/specials Particularly tempting are the Renaissance Comp and Reverb. Having used them a few years ago I can thoroughly recommend them.
