Looks interesting, will be good to hear how it sounds! Si
It's not bad at all. I had to sub one of the trannies and use a 2222 as I'd run out of othrr NPNs but it gives a very vintage O/D sound. I'll give it a go through my amp a bit later on to see how it sounds through a cab...
2. True dat. I've only met a handful of fellow BCers, but each and every one has been lovely. We are the BALLS ladies and germs.
3. John Isley's low Es on 'Private Investigations'. The live version on Alchemy is a brilliant example of a disciplined bassist playing for the song.
4. DHA DI EQ will do everything except the USB/FW connectivity - whisper quiet XLR though. http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page42.html I use a VT1 DI EQ for recording. They're made as Valve O/D pedals but if you turn the gain down and use the clean boost to make the signal up to unity (or wherever you like really) then you'll get a beautiful, valve-warmed clean signal. Or you could replace the stock 12AX7 tube with a 12AU7 for less gain.
5. General rule is to keep software and DAWs on a separate physical drive to your OS/boot disk, and HDs should run at 7200rpm minimum (bad news for laptop users). Defrag often and don't save files to your desktop (for a number of reasons). Most audio software websites/forums have an 'optimisation' guide in their FAQ sections, so it might be worth for one that's specific to your DAW. This will include stuff like turning off WiFi connectivity and reducing the number of background applications running.
6.
Not to mention all the Dog & Duck Bands getting wedged up for covering the songs.
in the case of 'moon dance' for example…

Anybody built a shoe song bass overdrive? Might give this a go over the weekend:
8.
plus another....would'nt that be criminal damage in a court of law?!?
Probably - two extra holes in the bass body that you didn't ask for.
9. Cherry red is the only colour for an SG. Beautiful guitar Billy, good luck with the sale.
10. http://youtu.be/h-t31Ahc5nw It's an absolute blast to play.
11. Bassist at the wrong gig!
12.
Nothings as much fun as standing in front of your bass amp at full volume and feeling that trouser flapping fun!
This, but spandex don't flap.
13.
You can have two. That's allowed!
Not according to your Missus…
14. Pictures please! Unfortunately I'm not in a position to buy, but these basses are the BALLS!
15. Lessons. And some nice shoes.
16. I run a valve caster (home made valve o/d unit with a clean blend) in mine occasionally, but not often.
17. Broke one today. Thrashing away through rehearsal and my A string suddenly got a lot floppier…
18.
ahem http://www.bassgear....jazz-replica-2/ I would like a bass that sounds like the one the really cool guy who's name I forget played on graceland.
Bakithi Kumalo… http://youtu.be/nAgd9Ijw6WI
19. I was going to say something by 'Beefcake the Mighty' from GWAR, but it seems I'm a little late to the party…
20.
Or you could play lying on your back like Bob Babbitt
Then you'd have 5' 2" head clearance!
21. Tapes. Absolutely get some tapes. I used to LOVE recording on my Fostex 4 track back in the day. You may end up getting more out of the process than the product, but there's nothing wrong with that.
22. Orange Tiny Terrors are awesome recording amps. 7 or 15W output, but them's loud watts.
23. Yup, definitely something about keyboard players. I've been in bands with a few and they were all (with 2 exceptions) twats of the highest order. The 2 exceptions though are 2 of the most helpful, self-effacing and lovely people you could wish to meet.

Nux Pedals

I bought the "mod core" pedal this year and it's superb. Cast metal casing, quality switches and knobs and sounds superb. I bought it as a cheap chorus for recording some guitar parts, but the tremolo and rotary speaker simulator in particular are superb. I'm using it on my bass now.
