1. A recent purchase but I don't play five strings much these days and although the bass plays and sounds great it's not going to get much use from me. Bass is in dark cherry of mahogany slab body, set neck construction and fingerboard is ebony. It weighs around 9.6lbs and is comfy to play for long sessions. Hardware is Schaller and pickups are active Bartolinis. The sound is massive! The bass has one or two dings and an area under the D & G tuners where the paint on the fascia has been touched up. There are some tiny surface blemishes to the finish but nothing awful or structural. When I bought it it hadn't been played for some time - the Duracell battery was dead and dated 1998! So it needed a bit of a set up. Truss rod turns and adjusts as it ought to frets are excellent. New battery and a gig bag. I will include postage within the UK in the price. This is what the bass cost me I'm not looking for trades or offers and I'd prefer pickup if possible. A US Gibson for the price of a cheap Epiphone!
2. What's the weight of it please?
3. Bump and price drop to £1150
4. Weight? Thanks
5. Thanks Will! I've been asked about trade options I must stress that I'm only interested in the following - with additional cash if necessary. Fender Telecaster Bass, Squire JV Basses plus cash my way, Markbass 12" cab or 802 mini combo plus cash my way, anything of the 4000 bass model variety from the unmentionable, Shergold 6 string bass or 8 string bass. This is a lovely vintage bass there are not that many around from this era in such good condition.
6. Passive or active and what's the weight please?
7. Epiphone Rivoli bass from the Gibson Kalamazoo factory 1964. This is all original with no structural issues and no repairs. There are cosmetic dings, paint scrapes and touch ups a plenty but overall it looks great. It's set up with Daddario short scale flats with a nice low action. Frets are good, trussrod works and the neck is straight with no repairs. It sounds great pure warmth and when the baritone switch is engaged some very useable midrange tones. This is great for blues and rock and of course 60's pop. The bass comes with an Epiphone Rivoli reissue case. I withdrew this recently as it sold elsewhere but the buyer failed to contact me or turn up...UK postage at buyers cost. Great bass to play and very collectable. Cheers
8. What's the year and what's the weight please?
9. Well if anyone wants to buy the neck only....
10. Just measured scale from the bridge saddles to the nut and its 32'' and back of bridge to nut 33.4". Most Kramers have a medium scale sorry for the confusion.
11. It's medium - not shortscale and inserts are painted black cheers
12. Very metal type aluminium bump
13. This odd looking wedge shaped bass is one of the last aluminium necked bass models made by Kramer. I bought this as a project - it needed work - I got the correct Schaller roller bridge for it as it was fitted with a Badass that made the action too high. It looks like it has had a Kahler type bridge installed at some point as it's got some filled holes under the bridge. It has also had an overspray by the look of things. I believe the Schaller pickup is original - I've seen a few pics online and this looks like the pickup installed. The original Schaller tuners have been replaced with new ones.
14. Hi just got your message - I've seen them on Ricks but the headstock tuner holes would need to be about 16mm wide so if it's got the original holes it would need to be drilled. I do have some Hipshot direct replacement for a Rick 4003/4001 that are brand new - was going to use them on my old John Birch but got the correct M4 Schaller types instead - if you are interested PM me. Cheers
An old friend of mine had one of these, which he bought new in 1963, and it was a fabulous bass. It had been repaired, after a fall from the stand took the head off in about 1975(!), but the luthier made a fantastic job of it, and you'd be hard pushed to know. He played it through a 1960s Vox AC50, and a Vox 1x 18. Not a man looking for sparkling high end tones, as you can imagine. Sounded awesome - a real trouser flapper and perfect for Beatles and Stones stuff. I wish I had the cash. GLWTS - great basses, and a collectors item for the future I'm sure.
Thanks Admiral! Fortunately this one has kept its head all these years and other than the cosmetic dings it has no structural issues!
