  2. That makes sense cheers!
  3. I don't think so I was wondering about pickup selection I will check again but I thought it acted as a master tone in passive mode
  4. US made loveliness reduced to £275
  5. Status bump
  6. Controls are - Volume, master tone, active/passive switch, bass, mid, treble active eq (smaller knobs).
  7. Thanks for that Chris yes that's the bass
  8. Bump as I said I'd exchange for a Markbass LM head
  9. Andy came over from Manchester to buy my Ovation Magnum bass, turns out like me he's a Magazine fan and was at their reunion gig a few years ago at Manchester Academy! Great guy to deal with pm'd me 10 minutes after the bass was posted, collected and paid the following day. Top class.
  10. Another bass for sale as part of my New Year resolution to consolidate my collection! This time a custom made Status light relic Precision type bass with 'f' hole and graphite neck. The bass is very similar to the GP signature or their Retroactive range. Apparently it was made for the bassist from NW indie band Starsailor and is a one off. When I bought it the 18v m preamp had been taken out and was going to be replaced. Unfortunately it was 'cut' and no pics taken or diagrams made of the original circuit. (I have kept and will include the original preamp and knobs )As it was a custom bass Rob at Status didn't know the wiring without having a look and to be honest I couldn't be bothered with the expense and delay of sending it down to be reworked. Instead I put in a new active preamp that operates from a single 9v battery (the passive active switch is redundant and was left for cosmetic reasons i.e. To cover up the hole!) . The bass sounds fantastic and plays beautifully and is light at around 9.5lbs. I'm selling as I don't get on with the slab body. The plan now is to buy a Status neck and mount it in an old PJ body. There is no case but I can find a gig bag, I'd prefer pickup and it's UK only with no trades. Cheers!
  11. Now sold thanks for the interest part of my 'consolidate your collection resolution' Next up will be my Status Retro Active Precision with graphite neck.
  12. And replied
  13. Here is my old Ovation Magnum more pics and details to follow but it's in great playing and working condition. Loads of info on the net about these, it's a lighter one at 10lbs. Preamp is a replacement as it had been 'turned passive'. The large control plate was custom made as the original was broken and rather crudely replaced with a metal one. The preamp is an artic and uses the original battery compartment. Instead of a pickup selector there is a pickup blend. The pickups sound great and it's no big deal to wire them back to passive if required. Very unusual iconic bass with lots of tonal variation - think Jah Wobble and Barry Adamson. Thanks. UK only sorry no trades. Sold thanks Andy.
  14. Hi I'm in Lancaster
  15. Thanks yes it's a really nice bass it was filthy when I bought it and needed a bit of TLC and decent strings, it plays and sounds great now! A lot of bass for not much money the thing is with Peavey's is their reliability and excellent build quality it's a shame more people don't recognise what superb instruments they made in the US. The T40 basses are quite sought after but are incredibly heavy and rather cumbersome in comparison to the sleek ergonomics of some of their later basses. I do like the T40 but my shoulder doesn't
  16. Very nice any chance of detailed pics of the repair area? Courier pickup ok?
  17. Something of a flagship bass for Peavey at the time the US made Dyna bass featured quality tone woods a through neck, schaller hardware and active electrics. This bass is all original and a lovely player, frets are good, action low and the ebony board is a dream to play. It balances well and weighs around 9lbs. Minor cosmetic scratches and dings and a paint chip on the upper rear of the neck. Comes with original Peavey case. No trades sorry - unless you have a Markbass (Italian version) head in very good condition no other amps considered sorry don't ask please I can post in the UK only at buyers cost pickup is preferred. Cheers
  18. Hiya - no there isn't a serial number my other JB basses have had this hand engraved (rather roughly) on the bridge where the strings anchor but there is nothing on this. The pickups are signed/engraved by John Birch. Many custom basses were not given numbers as they were true 'one-offs' I think this is such a beast. It's now strung with 8 string and plays well, as good if not better than my old Shergold 8er - thanks to the shortscale - intonation is'nt the best at the higher end and will need work. I'm using an old Shergold Newtone set with Ernie Ball guitar strings for the octaves. I'll get a custom 8 set from Neil at Newtone who make strings for my Shergold Marathon 6.
  19. Remember the rescued John Birch 8 string? Well this is how it looks now. The original wiring is a write off but the pickups sound great and though I'm awaiting a shortscale 8 string set (I'll get them custom made from Newtone ). It plays, looks and sounds great! Thank you Paul Neild at Retro169 for the nitro refinish. At some point I'll put a restoration thread. Happy Christmas!
