  1. I did my first double bass gig last night with my Selmer 1/2 size bass, it was with rock'n'roll band Rockitt 88 and I played it on everything but four surf songs (which I payed bass guitar on). Got to say I was a little anxious as I was doing the sound too so there was a fair bit of juggling going on but I really enjoyed playing it and got lots of great comments from the audience and the band. It's really made me rethink my playing and after getting tips from the forum about correct positioning I've only got a small amount of fatigue in my hands this morning and no aches or pains. For amplification I used a cheap J-tone pickup through an old Rocktek eq pedal into my Markbass. No feedback and I could hear myself perfectly - the sound out front was excellent too I was told. I've got to say if you have been contemplating buying a DB or EUB.....do it! It is incredibly rewarding and makes you reassess what holds a song together, I really felt I had more dynamic control over the songs. Great fun and not too difficult even for someone with small hands like me - so glad I found the 1/2 size bass it's a revelation after struggling with longer scale basses and EUBs for the past couple of years.
  2. Cheers my Grabber is very light but being an early one it has the heavier clover tuners which add to the headstock diving to the floor routine. Looks a fantastic bass, good luck with the sale, I must resist......
  3. Nice what's the weight please and is there a lot of neck dive - like on mine?

    Slow?

It's slow but not impossible, your doing a great job under difficult circumstances. I'm using an iPad and it runs better on this over wifi than my PC. Hope you get your developer sorted ped.
  5. Just up the road in Lancaster
  6. Here is a nice old Fender Precision bitsa , It has a lovely straight neck with good frets and a working trussrod. The neck is stamped and has the appropriate ID marks at the heel. Tuners are Fender stamped and work smoothly. The bass is well set up with a low action. It has all original hardware with the exception of one control knob and a reissue tortoiseshell scratchplate. One of the pots has been changed at some point. The pickup sounds great and is mounted to a brass earth plate, the pickup covers are scuffed but this doesn't affect their sound. The bass has a '78 serial number on the headstock and a later '81 US Fender body, it balances well and is easy on the shoulder. The original owner told me the original body had been swapped because like many CBS Fenders it was extremely heavy. It has had a custom paint job - In true rock and roll style it has the name of a recreational substance favoured by many a musician written in the style of a famous US soft drink company! This was done professionally many years before I bought it and the reason why I added a new scratchplate to hide it! I would prefer pickup but will post at buyers expense. Sorry I will not post this outside the UK I'm looking for £480 Pics to follow this evening.

  12. Hi again, I've changed my mind about these and I'd like to buy them does the price include postage? Please PM your details and I'll pay through PayPal if that's ok? Cheers
  13. I bought these off eBay however they are no use for my 1/2 size bass. They are used but in excellent condition and not used by myself obviously. They are a light gauge suitable for 3/4 basses. They are in their original individual packets. I'm looking to get back most of my cost so would like £50 for them including postage in the UK.

  17. http://m.youtube.com/results?q=how%20to%20drive%20a%20double%20bass Try the above - its geared towards classical styles but gives good tips on holding the bass and posture, etc. it's also very engaging and nice to see a presenter who doesn't take himself too seriously! Enjoy.
