2.
Hi Git, Just some feedback on the design and looks etc really - the website doesn't really have any objective other than a bit of fun, like our music. I like it that way - and when that leads to money and jobs, you can be extra happy about it! It might have been the wrong place to post this in hindsight, as I am not after the usual great advice RE rankings and so forth. Public is fine ;0) Cheers matey ped
PM'd
 3.
Yes, Telecaster ones I believe.
Nice Telecaster and P bass knobs are the same - chrome flat tops...
 4. I pulled the ebay auction and it should sell at the bass bash (local non BC member - so far - coming to pick it up at the bash)
 5.
A US customer has this, which is how I aim to "mod" mine to look.
Very nice! Has that got white pearl topped knobs? I don't normally like them but they go well with the pearly plate.

 10.
Ever since I've joined BassChat I've looked upon this thread with envy, thinking to myself "one day, dam it, I will contribute!!!" And so.... We had our first ever gig on Saturday night in our local, they have a real good band who play 1st Saturday of the month and their Bass Player has been helping us out loads with Sunday practise sessions, so a couple of weeks ago he suggested we did a couple of songs in-between their 1st and 2nd sets, just to get use to the idea of being on stage. Now, only one of us, luckily our v. talented vocalist, has ever done anything remotely resembling public performance. The guitarist and I have never done it, in fact prior to Saturday night, the only thing I've ever done was be a sunflower in the school play (and I'm now 30). We rattled through Bohemian Like You and Chasing Cars. I think we did OK, we agreed on a good 6 out of 10 and judging by the applause we got, they didn’t hear the mistakes ;-). However as a first time ever performance, what a feeling! I totally get why you guys get a buzz out of playing. Awesome!
Congratulations! Yes there really is nothing like it for adrenaline that doesn't involve doing illegal things .....
 11. Welcome! I think you'll find a few other NLP practitioners here too OG
 12. Might be up for your George-L short cables ... What do you have?
Ah, Crosskeys ! Do you ever go to the Iswyn Acoustic Guitar club meetings in the Crosskeys Hotel ? - Steve Lawson turned up a while back and did a great set - as did Nick Beggs on Chapman Stick. Not very acoustic I know but they seem to be open to bass guitarists as well as acoustic/electric players. They have Adrian Legg playing the Blackwood miners institute on March 15th - one acoustic guitarist you should not miss. Jim Lampi - another Chapman Stick player - is doing a gig at the Crosskeys Hotel on Fri 25th April. The url of the club is below; http://www.geocities.com/jenks436/islwynagc.html Any way - yes, I'd be well up for a mini bassbash in your prac room. The more the merrier..........
Lawson was fab there about 18 months ago .. Leggie's still going then? I guess the between-tune roll-up lighting routine has gone though Shame .. I'm playing myself tht night.
 15.
It's a bit Schrödinger's Bass. Can you prove there's actually a mint 77 Thunderbird in there without opening the box? And what about the poor Japanese collector who buys it and then has the box opened by customs...
Ha ha thats like Prospector Pete in Toy Story Anyway I don't believe that's a Gibson Thunderbird in there "Popular "reverse" design - first introduced in 1963 - offers a balanced comfortable feel." Balanced?
 16.
I used a Bench press drill & a gotoh bridge & made my SX P a string-thru body!! Worked great-did it 20 months ago & no issues so far. In fact neck is straight as....sound darn good too!! Has Ibanez Blazer bass '80's pups in it, Red body w/white pup covers & white pearl guard. Flats on it too. Sounds GOOOD!!
I guess that's the thing - the basic chassis - body, woods and neck - is fine so you can fit whatever pups, bridge, etc that you want and it won't be too much like pimping your mum's Micra ...
Hmmmm, interesting thread..........do you think Mr Shuker could make 5-string classic bass with a fender style headstock ? Would be good to meet up with you guys to have a mini Welsh bass bash - say in the next few weeks - I could bring along my US Glaub and bound and blocked Japanese P-bass for starters. I have a Bill Nash 63 P-bass on order now (Dakota Red)/Tort pickguard/Ebony fingerboard and P/J config - could bring that along to another mini Welsh bass bash later in the year. I like the spec of your JJ Nash - look forward to hearing it....... OldGit - what pickups do you have on your JJ 5string ?? Cheers
That's my Shuker in my avatar - fender style and shaped headstock (almost) Fender headstock can go on any body shape AFAIK .. My P5 has custom made pups - as do the JJB's - made to Jon's design by a UK PUP custom shop. i didn't find out who. Mini Welsh bash Now there's a thought ....
 19.
Played our first ever gig at the Jazz Cafe last night. We planned on going as good little boys, setting up quickly, playing our set and getting off the stage at our allotted time so the next band could set up and stay on schedule. After we'd finished our set all we could hear was screams of 'Encore!'. Then our singer told the crowd it wasn't up to us. Then the compere told us to do another one. After we did that the crowd asked for another encore! The compere told us we had to do another one, so we did. First gig at the Jazz Cafe and TWO f**king encores! I'm still smiling now.
Excellent, Congratulations!
 20.
quite a common one. Never follow links in emails about ebay, always go direct through the ebay site. Always be suspicious if an email refers to "dear ebay member" or "your item". If it's from ebay, it will have your name on it, and if it's really about one of your items, it will say "your bass" (or whatever is relevant) As a general rule I NEVER trust an email from or about ebay, and always go direct through the ebay site.
+ many If it sounds sneaky it probably is.
 21. You'd need an acoustic bass the size of a double bass to be heard with two enthusiastically played acoustic guitars ... There are loads of buskers' amps around though .. not specifically bass amps but why not rehearse somewhere else or buy a looooooong extension lead, and a gear trolley, and find somewhere to plug in? HiWatt 15 watts £130 Crate Taxi £130
the shuker shape i mean is the jjb shape. i use my tuner to mute it. i only play 20-30mins sets so i never put it on a stand live.
OK re the headstock I remember great confusin with Jon and I over this subject on my modern 5 as he was talking about a "Fender style" headstock with a "Shuker shape" at some point. turns out the fender style bit refers to a straight extension of the neck wood - with string trees rather than the shape of the peg head .. The option is the "gibson stlye" that angles the headstock back using a scarfe joint. This has no need for string trees ... and these two types can be any "shape" you like .. Think about a mute, though .. easy to plan in at build time, a handy feature if you ever want to sell it on and it may be useful in 15 years time when you are playing covers in pubs if you don't
Poochie's a sweetheart alright, but what you've really got to be wary of is The Wood Store. If you go in there, I guarantee you'll emerge blinking into the light about an hour later clutching a bookmatched top of quilted yam or spalted Venezuelan gnatwood or flamed canoe tree or something
So true! Pretty sure that dog has been trained to herd punters into The Wood Store ...... oh that sounds good ... Shuker shape headstock? on a P bass? Are you sure? I'd get the 2 battery box fitted from the start, and enough cavity capacity to fit a bigger loom in the future, knobs etc ... You never know, yo may want to later and it's easier to get Jobn to do it now than once its got the 8 Mile Deep gloss coat. You should put the double battery box alongside the one for your neck side LED's that you'll be gasing for after Tuesday eh Rich? Also Jon will probably suggest it but get the body made a tad thinner for reduced overall weight. Mine's thinner (as are the JJB's) and it works fine. I know you don't want knobs but why not get a mute button fitted somewhere subtle so you can mute it to take it off and put it on it's stand without worrying about feedback, turn it off to take the jack plug out silently etc... Jon can probably fit a small slider in the side of the battery box (that's where my lights switch is. It's dead easy to use live.
 25. I'm not sure if this is still going on as it's off ebay now but ... Saw my mates's Squire P Pro-tone last night and had a chat with him about it, though, sadly, I didn't get to have a go. He has a couple of custom Statuses and two Squier P shaped 5's.. I was confusing it with the other before (active 5 string P bass with Jazz pups) He says the Protone is the dogs, much better that the other Squier and was £450 new a few years ago. They are rare in this country. Working on that basis if you can get this one for less than £250 all in it's got to be worth it.
