3.
OK, I've updated the original list with all these additions
Are there enough declared things for sale at the bsh to do a thread of that?
 4. Zoom B2.1u for headphone playing
 5.
It's kinda rule, but, umm, what should I do when I try talking to the audience ??? ( because the frontman is good at singing, but making sensible/funny phrases is just not for his mouth... What do ya guys do,if ya need that? Kick frontman's a s s ?
Rehearse the talky bits just as you woudl a lead break or a bass intro. Plan your set so the gaps between tunes are minimised so he feels less exposed. Front person does the main talking to the audience, That's the rule for slick presentation. it's Ok in a party or laid back gig if someone else has a go but, in general, it's weird if someone other than the front man tries to do it.
 6.
I like to be stage right, or on the left as the punters look at the band. I can then pretend to be looking at my bandmates while I'm actually checking that the fingers on my left hand are going where they're supposed to be. Can't imagine standing on the other side. Mark
+1 a good trick .. and then it's just a few degrees between your visual cues from the singer and the drummer and your fret board when needed .. Other than that my rule is "the other side of the drums from the lead guitarist ..." otherwise it's cymbals to le left of me, lead to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with tinnitus ...
 7.

Well you can't say I didn't warn you
Anyhow I just noticed the "SX configuration opinions., Yet another "which scratchplate" thread! so I might continue this over there.
There's a bit of bridge chat on there too (Rich)
 9.
Thanks for your help OldGit, go easy on the prunes mate.
Ah good advice But at my age you have to do what you can

 11.
This is a great thread, with lots of good ideas so ta for that! I don't think anyone has mentioned radio. Local radio stations will announce your gig if you ask them, and if they have a rock show they could well do an interview or session as well, and this could help get people in. I have very little to add to this. Sadly, we're one of the many bands without a following. Reading this thread I found it strange that "obviously you'll still need 50 mates there" and "make sure your 75 mates only come to the most important gigs" seems to be common place. Now, I know i'm not the most popular guy in the world, but I did think I had a few good mates. How the hell do you guys get 50 or 75 friends to turn up to a gig?!? We do well if we get 25 mates to turn up!! Maybe our mates just don't like the band, but, they're still mates, and you think they'd turn up for the few important gigs we beg them to. I should get some more friends!
Well we've kinda been round this a few times, me and Tom, but if your mates won't come to see you at "important" gigs then you have a problem to address., either your "availability" ie do you play too often for free in the same town? or the quality of your show or material, ie the entertainment value.
 12. Jon Shuker has added an online version of the fabled Shuker Wood Store ... Lock up your credit card .... Jon Shuker Wood Store Facing Woods

 14. Jon's finally got his Shuker Bass Tee Shirts
 15. Just spotted this ... Bass Tees "let them know you're not a treble maker" nice tagline but just one shirt design by the look of it .. http://basstees.com/index.html
 16.
Wht not get some paint pens, scribble all over it and write "zvex" at the bottom!
Or DHA You've probably sorted this by now but if you found a source of white lettraset-type lettering I'd be interested .. I used 2mm white lettraset dots as side markers for years where the standard ones were too small to see easily but when I went looking for white rub off lettering this time I failed miserably ...
 17.
The pot for the J pup is dodgy and cuts in and out as you turn it so I figure I'd just replace them all with some quality ones. I did a quick fix and put a Japanese special in to make it usable but now I get that tone and volume roll off issue after about 8. I've noticed others commenting on this phenomenon in the past but never bothered to read up because until now it was never a problem.
Cleaned the pot with pot cleaner spray? That usually sorts out that sort of thing ...
 18.
Thanks OldGit. As far as the 2 pup bass, that wasn't intentional really. Most of my basses have been Jazz or custom or ..."others" and I wanted to get a P bass just for a bit of fun and to shift my playing perspective a bit. The SX's have a good rep and are cheap, so I picked this one up. I would have been just as happy with a straight P bass. The bridge on mine actually looks pretty good. But then most of my basses have Badass bridges or 3 point Gibiphone bridges so I'm no expert on Fender bent plate bridges. What do you suggest? I mean that's kind of why I bought the bass , to experiment a bit.
I'm no expert and I've never had a bad ass (apart from that time in Ibiza and I'm sure that was the prunes ) but the Gotoh 203 was recommended by Jon Shuker as a good solid direct replacement for Fender stock bridges. Good enough endorsement for me It's cheap too They do a string-through body bridge called the 206 and loads of people have put 201's on. Not me though so I don't know how they are. My SX P does seem to have a better something about it, acoustically, after changing from the Fender threaded saddle bridge it had before - there's two more screws in the Gotoh so maybe that helps.

 20.
I won this on eBay today. I will use the good bits and ditch the rest. Maybe change the bridge depending on costs.
Oh good score ... Looks like it's sorteh then
The problem with lighting from the floor is it ruthlessly shows the number of chins you have.
+1 (or 3 in my case) Also it can blind you when looking at yoru fretting fingers .. Those LED pars look like the'll easily bolt or strap to the top of a speaker on a stick and shine downwards ..
 22.
Dep gig on Wednesday for my Drummer's other band. Pretty simple stuff until some guy asks for Hey Joe. I've never played it before but know the song pretty well. The guitarist tells me what key and the chors structure and off we go. Anyway, it goes down really well and the guitarist tells me I'm the easiest bass player he's ever played with and offered him more support than he's ever had during his solo. Found out on Friday that they want me to join full time!! Not a bad result for a guy who could hear his P Bass through most of the gig (see other post). Maybe that's the secret; don't listen to what you're playing!!
Not all bad then ... Saw that guy get poleaxed in the Welsh game yesterday and reaslised what your inner ears must have been going through .....
