Unsung Four-string Hero of Folk Rock - have a listen!
OldGit replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Try this too for a sort of prog-folk sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGFvJLBjhxI Mark
Oh haven't seen that before .. That's from the time when the BBC orchestra played on the TOTP backing tracks. That's why it sounds so different to the record. .. Annie Haslaaaam got me all hot 'n' bothered back then as did the Chris Squire tribute bass line .. Thanks for the memory Funny watching the drummer trying to get the fill right as he comes back in at the end Back to Jack the lad - that's great any CD's around? We have a gig tomorrow (my Ceilidh Barn Dance band) and when it was booked it wasn't St Pats night now it is! Oh dear, we are certainly not Irish in any way .. I hope the punters don't expect the Pogues .... -
I'd already won it when I started the thread... So that's two basses and a combo destined for the Bay, to keep my domestic karma up.
Ho ho .. Well at that price you can have fun without worrying, Hang on, don't you already have a dodgy back? ... So what are you selling?

Lounge noodling beginner has sudden rush of courage
OldGit replied to 2wheeler's topic in General Discussion
hey well done .. That really is jumping in the deep end .. I play at a general jam most weeks and get caught out regularly with obscure album tracks, orginals (for goodness sake how am I supposed to know how someones original song goes??) and stuff from kids bands .. just smile and keep going, then go home and look them up on Chordie and youtube for next time As an aside, on this video of Straight, no chaer, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3-kr5M1fF4...feature=related Roy McCerdy is credited with playing "Slagwerk" .. What's that then? Best I can find is "Clockwork" -
Do you guys think i'll get a hardcase with it as its a custom?
You mean included in the price? Nah. They are all customs and he hardlly charges enough anyway...
Nights on broadway by Candi Statton (originally Bee Gees I think. not sure who played bass on it but it sounds very Crusaders'ish. Cheesy song but class playing.
Was that the first big UK hit with pull offs? 1977. I remember the impact that had... Everything by Altered Images, Johnny McElhone? All that "melody up the neck" stuff is great.

Ok This is what it looks like today:) Changes from the original pics are: Pup cover off, Pup replaced with my original 1962 Fender precision pup Tort scratch plate rather than black Gotoh 203 bridge rather than teh Fender re-issue (shorter height grubs in the post) Artec 2 band active eq with tone stack knobs. Nice Bart Simpson Skull and Crossbones sticker chosen by my lad to cover the hole in the lacquer I managed to add accidentally ... Awww its first bit of Mojo ... Original eBy pic Odd perspective front shot Battery box Tone stack knob Body front If the new, shorter bridge height grub screws show up tomorrow I'll try it out at our gig on Saturday.

Fender Precision Problems- Can't hear it!!
OldGit replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
Merton Thanks very much for the offer. Bass Ferret was kind enough to offer me the loan of his EBS Microbass too and I'm really grateful. I tried one at the weekend but it really didn't make much difference. Last night I actually turned off my Bass Xciter to see if that helped at all (it's the really boomy sound that I can't hear) and this helped a bit. Every time I decide what I'm going to do, I change my mind again!!
Nick, You may get some more readers and ideas if you edit the thread title to add "hearing" to it. -
JJ Burnell John Entwistle Andy Fraser Phil Lynot Burke Shelley (Budgie) It's not fair - I want to get Lemmy in there as well!
ha ha I'll tell Burke next time I see him. He'll be tickled I think Well, what a decade! Often dissed and considered inferior to the 60's but look at that list .... I agree with every name so far and to say who as better than whom is almost impossible. So I'd just like add in Jim Lea from Slade. Great lines, especially Far Far Away, and fun to play. and Roger Wetton for his stint with Family, especially the wonderful "Burlesque".
I think one of the pieces on there may well be the top on my bass he's building right now. There are plenty on there I never saw before though which may have forced me to reconsider the madrone at the time! There's always next time
The woods on there are examples rather than the pieces he actually has right now ... You can't have this bit, for example, as it's stuck to the front of my bass
I was hoping to get a P in blue with maybe a tort pickguard - like this:
Rondo stock changes all the time so you just have to wait for one to pop up on their site then grab it. You can ask them if they are expecting one (if that is a SX bass and you have the model number)
-
Also, I know this is for SX porn, but has anyone else spotted that Brice semi on Rondo's site? Re-jig the headstock to make it more Gibbo/Epi-like and it'd look pretty sharp.
Leave it as it is and people will believe its a £2000 custom ... Their copywriter must have a sense of humour : "Get ready to rock with this solid performer!" A semi with a through body bridge arrangement .. hummmmmm
Looking through Rondo's SX catalogue, I'm taken by the SJB-62CT 3TS (catchy )
SJB-62CT 3TS I've cracked the code : SX Jazz Bass 62 style, Covers, Tortoiseshell, 3 Tone Sunburst Yeah gorgeous .. The black PJ looks good too. SX SPJ-62 BK http://www.rondomusic.com/spj62.html
See, this is the bit I'm worried about. Do you have to pay custom charges or do USPS pay it for you?
Don't worry about it You pay Rondo forteh bass and shipping - about 100 quid.. Then it turns up about 5 or 6 days later Then the courier sends you a bill for about 45 quid that covers all the other bits
-
You will have to keep that pickup away from yoru video collection, credt card strips and anything made of steel ...
-
I'm interested in buying a P myself to mess around on (maybe gig). If you order from Rondo, do they ship to the UK? If so who does it and how much is it? And is there any tax/hidden costs? Do customs hold onto it? Cheers.
I should do a Wiki on this Buy a $110 dollar P from Rondo, pay by paypal. It ends up costing you about £140 - £150 including the bass, shipping, Duty, VAt and it gets delivered to your address. 5 or so days later you get the customs bill through the post. USPS handles it. Your P alternatives are "Noname" and "Jim Deacon" (both available here) Jim Deacon 62 p bass is about £110 - £140 depending on the shop. Damn fine bass for the money and you can try it first in a number of places.

I'd say no to the pickguard idea ... Looks brilliant and not far off ... That last week waiting for the paint to harden is a very very long week

Shuker "Pub/Stealth Bass" - An All Black 33" Jazz Bass
OldGit replied to eude's topic in Build Diaries
" Hello? Is that Shukerolicks anonymous?" A "pocket jazz" sounds like a very good idea. I'm sure it will be a stonkin'ly brilliant bass as ever with Jon's work.
