I got to have a quick unplugged noodle on this round at Nick's recently and, to be honest, I was really unimpressed. I'm thinking of trying to persuade him to sell it as it's really not up to his high standards of playing - I thought maybe £250 would be a good price for it & I'd even offer to take it off his hands for him so he doesn't have to go through the ignominy of sticking it up on EBay & having to explain to a load of oiks that it's not some dodgy Taiwanese P bass copy. . . Ok - so it's lovely & a joy to play, damn, looks like my 'cunning plan' isn't going to work
Take a number ...... -
Its helps if you have someone who does that for a living running the bookings
You don't actually have to do it... you just have to talk like you do ...

I think there is a general belief amongst gig bookers of many types that we are "just musicians". They don't imagine that we might just do other things like running businesses, managing projects and negotiating deals with much bigger fish than them.
The sad thing is, we quite like the venue
So go back and play it again but make sure you get paid.. It's worth one more go. If you'd been paid that would have been a top shot gig so it can happen again, you just need to make sure you take out the annoying bit. I've had a couple of experiences related to this kind of behavior, someone booked my band at "charity" rates for a fundraising gig and then it turned out to be a birthday party ... That just brought in the "registered charity" phrase to our agreement wording and once a support band were supposed to sell tickets and get paid a couple of quid per ticket sold. Sadly the member of their band I was dealing with forgot to tell them that, and went home before we finished our set leaving 4 hard nut band members to menace me for the money they obviously thought they were getting. I paid them some but they never got a support slot or recommendation from us again. They probably went off telling everyone that we promised them £100 and then they had to threaten us to get their pay...

Ask for one and half times your normal pub fee, 5 gigs booked over the next year ... and get it in writing ...

Has anyone done the Shuker Self Build course?
OldGit replied to Peter Train's topic in Build Diaries
I read the cutom build diaries and looked at the photos of the Shuker basses and thought they looked great so I had a look at the Shuker web site. I really like the idea of buidling my own bass but I've no where to build it at home so the 5 day course looked like a reasonable idea. However, the web site gives no details of prices and says that you gat the option to build one of five guitars (hardy custom I know). I wondered if anyone here had done the course and if so what they thought of the bass produced at the end and the cost? Any photos would be good if you have any. Ta Pete
That's on my "Things to do before I'm 50/55/60/65 " list too. You'd be in fine hands. Jon is a great guy and, as Taity says, he won't let anything bad happen ... -
So you'll have a music stand with the instructions on it

Gosh! Looks lovely .. Quite like the carpet too
Dream spec - two-tone sunburst, nice and light body, nice rich aged wood tones, maple fingerboard, white pick guard, a real player but a bit tatty, with non-standard electrics so I don't feel guilty calling up Wizard!
+ 1 on the Made in Japan or Crafted in Japan (MIJ or CIJ) ones. MIJ are older than CIJ and tend to be less money. Then it's just down to your taste and the condition.
Hi. I have emailed Randall again regarding the ohms thing,if I get a reply will be interested , owned one of these years ago but cannot remember the specs. Rich
Thanks Rich. Anything you can add to how the amp is in a gigging situation? I've not gigged mine. -
And .... What was true a year ago, (well 14 months ago, seeing as we've just had the anniversary of the Northern Rock debacle) is not true now .. In normal times a bass is probably worth half the -current- real retail (not RRP) for the same model or as close as you can find, unless it's very special. Customs will vary with how weird it is .. a 7 string fretless shortscale in pink glitter will have a limited market, no matter how fine an instrument it is ... Do "recently sold" check on ebay and on here and then punt it up. These days you may just have to get what you can for it. If you need to get a certain amou8nt to afford your GAS bass then put it up attat figure and see what happens ...

Flea was rescued from a potential life of crime and jail by getting into music and thus is doing what he can to help kids do the same. He has funded a college and this is his idea of a bass for kids and beginners. He may play them on stage but they are not supposed to be as good as his endorsement instruments, that's not the point. Nice to see someone putting something back into our instrument. Be interesting to see if we get any over here.
