I use a MB LMK with Aguilar GS212. Swapped it for ABM setup. The MB/Aguilar for me is an ultimate sound. I use a Stingray and sometimes a p bass. Does anything you could wish for. I dont think I've ever needed to go above 1.5 or 2 on the volume. Wont be swapping for a long time!
My rig's a Markbass LMK plus 2 Bergantino AE112 1x12's and a passive (but high output) Shuker precision 5. I use the two channels on the LMK to switch between cleanish and full on gut shaking reggae sound. The channel switch can turn each on and off individually so the flexibility of that is very helpful. Just turn off both for mute, though you need a foot switch with indicator lights - the MB ones doesn't have that .. another bit of "Doh!" design I've just has a chat with Mark at BassDirect about getting a warmer sound than I was managing, and without resorting to pedals. He recommended different settings for the filters and that's worked well so far. I also has a Scroeder 1212L for a year and that was great too. I'd say try a MB head with your current cabs, then change cabs if you feel the need (or the back twinges )
yup, its a good bit of kit alright. gigged it sat night, and the bloke who owned it before was there, told me he'd had it three years. i found this very reassuring, as the first thing i did when you guys told me what it was, was checked out all the online reviews, and it seemed you either got a really good one, or occasionally a really bad one, something i had already associated MIM basses with (perhaps unfairly).. any problems i had read about with the "tequila tuesday" ones had manifested fairly early on, so hopefully this one is as good as it looks. build quality and finish are really, really good, but the best thing is the tone, now ive had a chance to play it loud, through a decent rig(id only heard it in the local music shop where it was a customers private sale and at home thru me practice amp) with my limited tech knowledge, i'd hazard a guess that its a combination of the bulk and solidity of the un contoured slab ash body, the badass2 bridge, and mostly.. the Custom Vintage 59 Split Single-Coil Pickup..all in all, i'd deffo recommend this bass to anyone. bad bits so far..only one really, its a good job it sounds brilliant with vol and tone both set at eleven(no, this one goes up to eleven..;-)), because with the tone set back the other way, it just sounds plain weird, sort of hollow if you know what i mean. anyway, i love it, and unless this bloody depression makes it even more difficult to survive as a builder than it is doing now(1 days work last week :-( )its a keeper.
Nice review .. Maybe you should post this in the reviews section? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=58

Last night a wedding gig Nice people - they even helped us haul all the gear in before shoving off to the bar whilst we set up and sound checked. Now that is a bonus. Mother and father of teh bride were very enthusiastic and no one got seriously legless Phew! Everything went well and Dave II, our newest member, played a blinder on keys and guitar. He's getting the hang of the tunes and sophisticated "compuesto a medida que avanzamos" nature of our stage show. He's finally tamed his G10.1u and was getting some cracking sounds and solos. Nice gig all round but my sound was exceptional. I had a long chat with Mark at Bass Direct before Christmas about maybe getting a Tech 21 pedal to dirty up my sound a bit as it was all a bit clean for me but he suggested changing the settings on the Markbass first. I set it as suggested, plus I got a Gramma pad for Christmas so I had that too, and the room sound was great. Can't say what difference each of these factors had but the overall effect was marked. With everything in my signal chain bypassed it just sounded great. I tried dropping in the compressor and SVT emulation but it was better without .. I'm well chuffed I'll not be selling anything quite yet but I'm cautiously hopeful
finally i can contribute to this thread! well... first gig last night... and the main reason i've been a bit quiet over the last few weeks. in a moment of sheer madness three weeks ago i agreed to stand in for a bass player who was on his stag do last night. which left me with 3 weeks and 33 songs to learn. it was a 40th birthday party at the malthouse in rishworth - really great venue except for the slightly odd 'stage' which was behind wooden beams. the staff were amazing and all our food and tea was free.. hurrah! we didn't get on til 10 as the meal went on for longer than expected, and i was still suspiciously lacking nerves, despite the whole flippin' affair being opened by me on bass (2nd half of 'the chain'). i screwed up at various points during the night, but mostly during the root-notey type songs (they all got a little muddled in my brain), and i'm pretty sure noone was too bothered by it, i busked it well enough to be passable. the songs where the bass was more complex were great, and the singer bigged me up massively as i was retuning for 'somebody told me' by the killers - and the guests went absolutely nuts, they were screaming and clapping, even the staff came in to watch! that was such a thrill!! it was such an incredible gig, never mind it being my first. the dancefloor was full all night, as were the tables, which were being danced on, and at one point, they were actually hanging from the rafters (i was just praying no-one was seriously injured, although it would have livened the story up somewhat). we had to turn down at midnight because the locals complained that they could hear the bass (wooo! complaints on my first night!) too clearly.. but we snuck the volume back up for the encore. so, as we finished and i put my bass down, this guy comes wandering up to me, and i got a little nervous as i suspected he was probably the obligatory musician-guest come to tell me how much i sucked, and he was indeed a drummer but in fact, he said some truly amazing things that i never expected to hear. he wasn't the only one, either, and i feared my ego would no longer fit in the car along with all the gear. anyway - end of the night came and after the excitement died down we were given tea and cake (as if things couldn't get any better!) and the band all wrote nice things on my set list. got home about 2:45 just in time for my brain to implode after the busiest three weeks of my life, and i've woken up feeling elated, but a little like i've been beaten up. it's ok, this bass playing lark. x
Ha ha Welcome to the addicts club

Hi and welcome. I'd suggest you add your location to your profile then it will show in the left column and you can stop people asking (as they will if you don't) Then do as suggested above, put up a new thread in the basses for sale bit. If you are just working out if there's any interest you can call it a feeler and watch your Personal Message (PM) inbox. You can set oit to email you when a new one arrives. Generally you will need to post a bunch of pictures, history and a spec and a guide to the price you have in mind or what you are looking for in exchange .. If you don't do that you will just get nagged You can also post a wanted post for the Aerodyne in the wanted section if a used one is what you had in mind. It's worth asking. You may find people are looking for what you have, or vice versa and you may be able to hook something up. eBay is tricky if you havn't got a history as people do not generally trust big sales like basses from first time sellers. There's too many scams around.

My copy of Rick Wakeman's Grumpy Old Rock Star is up for a bit of circulation. Starvolt's up first so post here if you fancy reading it and sending it on to someone else. It's very funny and a swift read. OG

LAKWOOD FRETLESS BASS - GREAT SPEC - PRO SETUP
OldGit replied to bassatnight's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Looks like one of the less good SX models - it had 21 frets where as the Rondo ones we all rave about have 20. For that money you are into Squier VMJ fretless territory. I'd say the squier was a better bass and a lot easier to sell used if you don't like it. £206 from here http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=5402 -
Would anyone care to name a notable gay bass player? I've been racking my brain but I can't think of any! (It is claimed that the homosexual male brain is more like the heterosexual female brain).
Steve Swallow (allegedly)

A quick point on how to use your basschat sig to enhance your Google performance. Lots of us have links to our bands websites and myspaces from our basschat sigs. This can be a good way of scoring brownie points on Google if you use your name and a few key words in the link. So rather than have a link that says My Function Band My Rock band use key words in the linked text such as: My Function Band: Our Souls My Rock band: The Rock Splods Better still use your geographical area or other top search term My Wedding Band: Our Souls. Top Wedding band in Lincolnshire My Rock Band: The Rock Splods. The worst rock band in Skegness Then every time you post on Basschat you will rack up points with Google (cos google indexes basschat) and these are considered relevant inbound links - and they are the best you can get. Goodness all round

I went from a Schroeder 1212L to two Bergantino 1x12's .. The Bergs are probably a bit pricey but the ministack is a great idea. I sandwich my 3U rack in between the two so I get speaker a bit closer to my ears .. Anyway there's a pair of Aguilar 1x12's for sale on eBay at present £250 each with no bids http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/pottytime
What are the chances of finding a 1983 one with the exact date?
25th June? No chance .. model number 25 not used (or not publically stated what it was) . You could pretend to be born on the 23rd and have a Telecaster bass .... Not so bad
my dad (simon1964) found a precision bass that had the serial number show it was made the same year as him, and a stamp in the neck pocket (as some fenders do) saying his exact birthday.
Simon's birthday is 5th Nov 64 See? 5 = Precision Cool. I hope he had the money. It would be really horrible to find the ideal bass like that and only have 50p available ...

So... Did we get a date sorted?

Have you ever thought something was a good idea....

Hey fab! Well done that man. I hope there's a chapter of analysis of the styles of Paul Davis Vs Carole Kaye Iain Ballamy caught me out a few years ago when I trotted off to see him and to eat the advertised food at our local nice restaurant/jazz venue only to find the advertised Food was the name of his band that week .. I hope my rumbling tum didn't detract from the music ... -
