If it was sent by USPS (US Postal Service) in the US then the delivery in this country will by Parcel Force who are separate from the Post Office. Type the tracking number into the Parcel Force Web Site and you'll be able to see what's happened to it. Normally they send you a letter detailing how much VAT/Duty/handling charge there is to pay first.
+1 However they give you the option of paying it online or at the depot on pickup which speeds things up as they take their time sending out the ransom note.

Hummmmm a lifelong challenge. I absolutely love the sound of my P basses played gently through my WEM 12 watt practice amp, on its own with no band. Give me that but 1000 watts ov headroom and I'd be happy ... So the compromise is always what sounds right in the context but with the overarching requirement to hear myself, partly to make sure I'm playing the right notes but also because I want to enjoy the sound. So my whole setup is about full bodied clarity as the starting point with various right hand and FX differences to change things. Oddly the Shuker P5 with its single overwound P pickup is capable (I am told) of all sorts of bass impressions from P bass to Jazz bass to Ric, just by playing it differently. Add FX and all sorts of stuff comes out. Oh and loads of fret noise BBC I am that nerd who asks for more 2k in the monitors (for vox and sax, we don't monitor the bass) however that's only because know that that bit of my hearing still works for acoustic instruments where I just have to be able to hear it to sing and play in tune. SOund men tend to like the specific request rathr thna just "I can't hear myself"

Find out who received it here - the courier or the Post Office - go to their website and put in the tracking number. That should do it. And yes, you get stung for duty, handling charge and VAT on the whole lot ...
Generally good advice... BUT In my experience, most of the time, no amount of explanation will make up for them being unhappy at what you give them, (usually as they don't understand) and if they want it rowdy you're going to lose..
I've found that B&G&MiL's understand sound limiters when you show them the traffic lights in action and what will happen if you play loud. They usually are hugely apologetic for not knowing it was important and grateful that you will play the gig at all. Incidentalluy I'd say it's the band's responsibility for making sure the person booking you knows you can't play with a sound limiter. You can't expect them to know technical stuff like that so it's up to you to get that requirement in at the start of the negotiations.
I just find a plug off stage and run a long cable to it. Not usually an advocate of flagrant law breaking, but on this I feel that the miserable twats of the world are having their way so f*** em. The chances of a complaint resulting in officers knocking on your door are slim....
-1 Last time we did that (not a wedding) the hall manager and tech came up to us after and said "do that again an we'll never have you back here". It's a very nice venue and we didn't trip the sensor anyway as it was set sensibly for our moderate volume levels. The venue people have much too much at stake to risk it and it's not really for a band to say "Bugg3r your legal problems, we want to sound nice" even if it means the gig is slightly less nice sounding. And you just can't risk a big row between the band and the the venue people upsetting someone's wedding event. Molan can't get out of the gig now so he'll just have to prove how professional he and the band are and deal with it.

+1 on the auralex .. That will help. If it's anything like the rooms I've played in with a sound limiter it won't matter what you take, you are bugg3red unless your volume is really low. You might ask gently of you can bypass the limiter power supply but then everyone will be in trouble if they say yes and you cause a noise nusance and you get found out by the Environmental Health people. The limiter will be there for a reason - like the neighbours have complained - it won't be there just to annoy bass players. The show has to go on whatever the problems, especially for a wedding and at this notice, so all you can realistically do is play the gig, sus the sound limiter and work within its parameters. Explain the situation to the bride, groom and both mothers in law and do your best. Good luck PS add "Sorry but we don't play any rooms with sound limiters that cut the power to the stage. Please check with your organiser before confirming your booking" to your contract.
Thanks again... Mal
There see, now I clicked on it and went to your site.. However you need to read the bit at the top about Frames sites not working with Google PM me and I can suggest a fair few changes the site to make it work well for your band. OG

Amp head spkr binding posts - which way round?
OldGit replied to OldGit's topic in Repairs and Technical
Ta I didn't want to make the speakers work in reverse polarity or whatever. -
Arrrgh, this isn't right. There's no dots and numbers, can't you write music properly!!!!
All that nonsense about the noise at work regs ..
OldGit replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Very interesting. The researcher looking into musicians using earplugs didn't talk to any electric players at all just orchestral and brass bands ... Seems like a grave ommission .. -
Thanks for those tips, already used a couple on my webstie, still needs work but much better than it was.. Mal
You are welcome. You should edit your signature here to make your web address a link too - and any other places it occurs - that will have various positive effects including raising your google score and also bringing interested visitors from here..

Hi My Randall amp head has binding posts for speaker outs as well as jacks. I need to use the binding posts to connectthe cables but I don't know which way round they go. Is it red or black to tip of the speaker jackplug? is there a "standard way" of doing this? Anyone know? The manual doesn't say and there's nothing on the box itself. or I could borrow a couple of jackplugs from another lead ..... Ta
Ah righty, thanks for the help! Incidentally, was reading your website- whats this jellybaby award?!?!?
Ha ha thought you'd read the site As one of our USP's we have a big Bertie Basset filled with jelly babies. We award jelly babies to audience menbers for various things like getting up to dance first, being pretty, dancing with no shoes on, being pretty, being the bride and groom, being pretty, being under 10, being pretty, being the mother of the bride or groom (or both in some places), doing demo steps and dances with the caller, being pretty, swirling your kilt .... etc By the end of the gig I've usually given out about 2 kilos of jelly babies -and everyone has had some. Last thing I do is go around the tables schmoozing the punters and delivering the last change jelly babies .. so they all go home remembering that band that gives out jelly babies .. It's a cynical marketing ploy oh and everyone loves it. Costs about £3 per gig and works wonders. Jellied Reels > Jelly Babies .. geddit?
Thanks but I don't think it will be the punk version And on my reckoning that would be G C D and Am (except we're in the key of A so A D E Bm) but maybe that's where I'm going wrong
I think learning the melody woudl be a good idea. Give you some things to work with. Beeswing and this in a set would be brilliant.
We have only done one wedding. Everything went well. My one piece of advise is if you are doing one take spare leads - at least one of each type. Also physically check, by playing it thorough your PA, that you have the correct lead, not the one that is used in another setting to connect, laptop, iphone, MP3 player to your PA. Phoning and checking that they have the correct lead is not enough let me tell you!!!!! I have had a bad experiance with a lead (or lack of).
Ha ha we had some stuck up oik self-important brother of the bride at a posh wedding decide he just absolutely HAD to plug his Mac into our PA to do his witty slideshow talk... Did he have a lead? er, no. Did he think to ask us beforehand so we coud provide and help? er, no. As we were "staff" we were expected to anticipate his every need and [s]wipe his bum[/s] sort him out. We did, of course, but did he say thanks? Nope ... Posh weddings, they are the worst...

You'd probably be best joining an existing weddings and function band. That way you can see how it works from the inside rather than try too start one with no experience. You'll need to be able to play the right stuff and with the right attitude and clothes, as in this thread, but if you can do that it's just the same as any other band - you advertise in Rehearsal rooms, music shops, websites etc. OG

Sources of Jazz funk arrangements - sibelius or suchlike?
OldGit replied to OldGit's topic in Theory and Technique
I've got a large collection. PM me some titles and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks chaps Stevie PM's en route So (numpty here) the midi files convert into dots of Sibelius? Is that how it works? Cheers, OG -
We need a couple of sets worth of jazz funk arrangements for my new jazz funk project .. I'm trying to get a whole set's worth of arrangement "starters" in one fell swoop without doing the hard work of transcribing things .. lazy, I know, but it's a massive task for our arranger and I'd like to hang on to him. So are there any sources of arrangements we can P2P, buy, borrow, commission etc for something like Sibelius? Any help? Anyone take commissions? Cheers OG

I must say it's tempting to suggest not playing anything as it's pretty much perfect as it is... However, taking themes from the vocal line, subtle underpinnings emphasising various parts of the tune - say under the rising lines such as "And I’ve seen you at the corners and cafes it seems .." may do it. Here's a more country version but with bass .. Oh and use the Jack the Lad bass tone and a pick ha ha ha joking ....
