1.
It cost less than the cost of an OC2 on ebay, that's for sure. I used an old 120 x 95 aluminium case, sockets and 3PDT switch that I had in my shed, so that saved me somewhere between £16 and £20. The actual components would have probably run to about £20, but again, I already had most of the stuff. The SK30 diodes, and the LM324, 4027 chips etc were probably about 50p each. I'm sure if I totalled it up it would run to maybe £40ish, but that would include 3 lots of p&p as I couldn't buy all of the parts from the one shop unfortunately.
That's a lot cheaper than a normal one
2. How much did it cost you to build this in total? If you don't mind me asking of course
3. If I could play guitar I'd be doing some sort of 'Delta' Blues track but I don't so.. May have to leave it this month as assignments and gigs with Uni must take precedence but hopefully next month I may have a track to enter. Good luck guys
4.
At this point may I recommend the book Musicophilia by Oliver Sachs. It seems music is a key function of the human brain, with the power to access other...bits.
I literally just tried to read this. My brain exploded. Not a book to read before you drop off to sleep.
5. Not bad, not bad at all That's the type of detail that I wouldn't think about but it's the small things that make the difference!
6. If I have read correctly, this is not an ad but more a wish list? As a wish list I would agree with most of it except the amp sizes. Bigger just looks cooler And wouldn't an ego free environment be amazing! But as an ad, I wouldn't reply. Too much 'do this, don't do that kinda thing'
7.
20 years ago, while working in a guitar shop, I was asked to describe my ideal Bass, and what I described was that Bass (though they didn't actually make that model back then). After dreaming about it for all that time I finally got that model last year, and everytime I look at it it still takes my breath away.
That's fair enough, I'm glad that you own the bass of your dreams not everybody can say that. I must admit it is charming in it's own way.
8.
Just utterly perfect.
I was surprised to see this tbh.
9.
It has a couple of coats of hand applied nitro cellulose on at the moment. I still need to do a bit more fine sanding then I think I will either put on some more nitro or some tung oil and bees wax, but I suppose it is unfinished. Thanks for asking Mike
Ah, fair enough! Looks lovely Mike! Haha But really it does look lovely!
10. Is the wood unfinished?
11.
Designed by Les Claypool and made by luthier Dan Maloney. Les sold it on eBay for £50,000, the proceeds going to his 2-year-old nephew, who has leukemia. Good on yer, Les. http://www.ebay.com/...cvip=true&rt=nc

It's called a Pachyderm.
Ah thank you Not sure I could afford that
12.
I like this sort of thing (the Carl Thompson inspired design):
This is just stunning! I love the woods! Do you know what make it is?
13. They are gorgeous to play!
14. Well this has been a while but I've only just found this thread! So here is mine bought from a fellow basschatter My 1994 TRB 5 Edit. Decided to add another picture
15. I saw him about a month or two ago in Bristol at a Jazz weekend. He was drumming away with Pee Wee Ellis, didn't know until the break that he was in Cream. His voice is amazing. Whiskey and smoking = croak!
16. I found that the harmonics on my epiphone thunderbird were clearer than the ones on my TRB but... The later is active while the other is passive, this may have something to do with it edit: damn autocorrect
17. The Ernie Ball Musicman basses are fantastic. I played one my tutor has and it was gorgeous!
18.
The D'addario Half Rounds I used sounded pretty much like flats; I couldn't detect a tone of both flat and wound. But the feel was scratchy, as if they had been unevenly machined. Nicely priced, but I wouldn't recommend them. I use roundwounds only now, and when I want a thicker or heavier tone, I play at the end of the fretboard -- it makes a noticeable difference in tone.
I hope that's not true for everyone because I've just bought a set of these
19. I always wear my glasses but no I have contacts I'll be wearing them instead
20. If you want to know about half rounds ask Milty he's got them on his bass and he's done a review on youtube. I'm about to put them on my fretless hopefully by the end of next week *fingers crossed* so will be able to answer properly then
21. Oh I remember him from Jools too! Was so good but I had forgot his name, thank you for the reminder
22. His ability to sing and play what he does confuses me! It's like he splits his thinking!
23. I really love coming here.. In fact I spend too much of my time here. About the arguments, I just enjoy reading them but try not to post at all within them. I haven't sold anything here yet but when I do I'll be happy to pay to do so. Bought a bass and that was fine. All in all, keep up the good work!
