Hello What ever you do, stay away from the market place. You may end up with so much gear that it would have been easier to get a drum kit

No, not something I do but I knew a drummer who has a very odd moan/groan when he plays.. It's kind of like he's on the loo! It's not quiet either.. Very loud!

Her youtube videos got her playing with Jamiroquai on a couple of their tour dates! I'm slightly jealous of her..

We had about 4 Encore jazz basses with about 2 strings between them. Oh and about 2 broken bass amps.. Seems I was quite lucky.

My only thoughts would be the string tension is higher so it's harder to play. Or.. It might be mental and you concentrate more and your fingers tense up a bit unintentionally. I know I personally struggle with this but it's only guess work.
