Blimey not doing well here, but in our defence if you look at point 3 in out T&C it does say deposits are non refundable. http://www.thebassgallery.com/tandc.cfm
Seeing as all the discussions were carried out by email a reference to the T&C when I offered a deposit, which was 16% of the value of the cab, would have been helpful.

I've sat on this for 5 months however I must confess that I had a slightly unpleasant experience with the Gallery earlier this year. I emailed to see if they had any used Epifani UL-212 cabs. They said they had two and gave me a price which was in the order of what I expected, so based on previous experience I said I would have one and that I would come and collect. I asked if they would like a deposit and duly paid £100 by bank transfer. A week or so later I drove up to collect. They had two so I selected the one in best condition, paid the balance, and Alex and Martin kindly carried it out and loaded it in the car. At this point I hadn't lifted it. When I got it home I was somewhat surpised to find that it was a lot heavier at 31.4Kg than my existing cab, a T212-UL, at 22.1Kg. I got straight back to them and said it was unusable at that weight and that I would like to return it - there was no mention of conditions. I duly set off for London with the cab and delivered it back to them. Imagine my surprise when I was advised that they would not refund the deposit I paid but only the balance. After remonstrating with them they agreed to only withhold £50. Only after I decided to buy a brand new speaker cab did they agree to give a full refund. I would just warn others not to volunteer a deposit, and if you have to pay one then keep it to a minimum and clarify the returns policy. It left a very sour taste in my mouth and I probably will never shop there again.

Sounds more like a problem with the jack socket in the bass. There are international standards for 1/4-inch jack plugs and sockets however certain manufacturers think they are doing you a favour by making oversize plugs. All these do is distort the socket so you can no longer use the correct spec ones. Before buying new cables I would inspect the socket. It might just be a matter of bending the contacts back again.
What about a Godin A4?
I was going to suggest Godin. My A5 does a very passable impression of a DB.
There is nothing to stop anyone of any age taking up an instrument.
and there are no rules or laws that dictate when you should stop either.

At 45 I restarted on bass and have been rocking for the past 20 years. Now I'm an official OAP but have no intention of stopping. New band now in rehearsal.
That's not too far - though I was hoping to hear a fretted bass. But if you could spare 20 mins some evening to play it for me and chat about it I would really appreciate that?
It's a fretted headless not fretless. Bit busy this coming week but PM me and we can sort out a date/time although I should warn you that I haven't played it very much as I have been away from gigging since I got it.
OBBM has one, I believe, he lives near Guildford, I expect he'll be bringing it to the SE Bash. I have a couple you could try out if you're ever down Swindon way
Indeed I have a headless 5-string Harlot and am between Farnham and Guildford.

It was a coupkle of years ago when I was thinking about a Sterling5 but these worked then: Pete Lunney - Nigel Bull -

In that case John, shouldn't you change your username to "warwickfound"?
12 as far as i know, at least thats what was quoted in the thread about them on here, 8ohm and 2400w handling.
That works out 3 in parallel gives 4-ohms Two sets in series gives 8-ohms.
Matamp have a couple of 8ohm 6x10's, they are on the Bay at the moment, I bought one about 2 months ago from them, well pleased with it.
What is the impedance of the individual drivers?
A 610 will almost always be 4 ohm. Why would you want to have an 8 ohm 610?
To be totally correct it will actually be 5.3-ohms. No matter how you try to configure six by 4, 8, 16 or 32-ohm speakers it will always come out at 5.3-ohms. It' s the laws of physics.

Has anyone here had a custom bass built for them?
obbm replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I had a bass built to my specification by Alan at ACG. There are several excellent UK luthiers so I would recommend that you talk to them before going overseas. You might even save some money. -
Nice one, I'd love to see/hear the set list. What Jonny Lang are you doing?
"Lie To Me" and maybe "Quitter Never Wins"

Look forward to catching up with you at the bass bash in September. Craig
I suspect that you probably know them. 2 former members of the original Lion Brewery Jam house band and an ex-Boogieman. See you at the Bash.
Glad to hear some of my old kit is getting some action too
Well you know I only use equipment that has the OHM seal of appproval.
Excellent news, all the best. BTW, what sort of leads did you use
Made by some outfit called "rock-wire". Very local to me.

For those of you that know me I had a pretty torid time following major surgery exactly 2 years ago which has precluded me from any serious gigging. Finally things have settled down so I was startiing to look for a band when I was recently contacted by a local drummer to see if I wanted to join a band he was putting together. We finally we got together in a rehearsal studio last night and spent almost 4 hours running through loads of numbers. It's heavy blues covers by the like of Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, SRV, etc. plus some blues standards, Clapton, Cream and Free numbers for good measure. Three of the four of us are retired so there are a good few years experience. Now we've got to sort a set, nail it and find some gigs. It's great to be back playing again. As for gear I used the Shuker PJ5 which I grow to like the more I play it, Orange AD200B and an Epi 2x12. Weighty, but nice tone.
-
Glad to hear that this is being sorted however it does make me question the competence of the Gallery in understanding the equipment they sell.
-
You could also change the pre-amp valves to lower gain versions or put an attenuator in the effects loop to lower the drive from the pre-amp to the power stage.

OP, I think there's an option missing from the list, a good old book, you know those things made of paper with printing on them. In 1962 or thereabouts, when I started, there were no tutors, teachers, internet, tab, songbooks, etc. The only way to learn how to tune the bass, basic scales and chords was the book written by Chas McDevitt and Shirley Douglass, the name of which escapes me for the moment however I'm rather envious of the fact that Happy Jack actually still has a copy of it. After that it was by ear, transcribing everything by hand.
-
Now the Tone Hammer has been around for a month or so has anyone got any gig experience with it or comments, reviews, etc?
I believe so.
Fair enough then the options are to change one end as icastle suggests or sell the GK cables (they are needed for GK Bi-amp systems) and buy some new 2-pole Speakon cables.

Does the Markbass head use 2-pole Speakon sockets then?
