I've asked some very pertinent questions about the pick-up. Also asked if I could collect. I'll post the answers if he replies. I also believe that by refusing to take Paypal he is infringing the listing rules. For some time now Paypal has been mandatory.

The sellers feedback reveals all.

I used a Linear Conchord (30-watts) and a 4x12 cab (4 x Bakers Group 25-watt speakers from RCS, Croydon) from 1964 -1967.

You shouldn't feel like that. Unfortunately it's a common error a bit like the difference between lend and borrow.

Just being my usual pedantic self but basses don't have "Input Jacks". The signal is generated in the bass and leaves via the "Output Jack". Amplifiers have "Input Jacks"

You will get max output from a valve amp at any impedance as long as the output transformer tap is set to the same as the speaker.

Seeing that at the time the Selmer was made speakers had rarely more than 50-watt handling, are you absolutely sure that the problem lies with the speaker and not in the amp. It could be that you are just overdriving the amp into distortion. If we knew where you were then maybe some kind and knowledgeable member could lend assistance/try cabs. BTW you're never going to keep up with a Fender Twin with 50-watts.

I still have it and it's Pacific Blue Burst. When bought it had been fitted with a Bartolini and a Aguiller OBP3. Didn't like the sound of the Bart so I tried an SD which was too aggresive, then I got the Nordstrand. After 4 years I finally located an original SR5 ceramic and original pre-amp but didn't like the sound so the Nordy went back in again which is how it is now. Status neck was fitted late 2004 and has done hundreds of gigs. Punchy, loads of sustain, always stays in tune and is a joy to play.
