Ibanez ATK 300 ... sounds just like MM StingRay
Ou7shined replied to Mark_ii's topic in Basses For Sale
I haven't tried the Sub yet but I can imagine they're close alright. Made by the same company and have a similar design to the Stingray, so fair point there ........... however you got to hear what Ibanez have done with the ATK 300, it really is punching a long way above it's weight. The ATK 300 could take on bases at 2 and 3 times the price. If you see one in any of the stores give it a try, you'll be more than surprised. It's very Stingrayish. Thanks for your comments.
I've played a couple. -
.... I can confirm the adverts regarding this bass model, it actually does sound and play exactly like a Musicman Stingray. I own both and I've never heard anything come as close as this to the Stingray sound. ...
Pedant hat on. Have you ever tried a MM SUB? They're the closest you can get to the 'ray tone bar none, but then it's not too surprising. Personally I think ATK's sound more like P basses than 'rays... but hey. -
I see the Snark is getting an update for added accuracy and tuning speed. ...
Ooh I like updates. How will that work... or are we talking about a new model?

Fuse ratings - changing from USA to UK
Ou7shined replied to warwickhunt's topic in Repairs and Technical
The most important number is the amps rating as that's where it goes pop.
I suppose I could have worded that better... I meant amperes. -

There's got to be a joke in there somewhere about "the sound of one hand slapping".
I've got a cheapo clip on one for my accustic guitar, my zoom 506II has got a built in tuner for gigs, and I've noticed at open mic nights when it gets noisey it doesn't work very well, have to try and find a quiet corner, is it the same with one of these?
No.
According to the previous owner (a Mr Derek Trotter I believe) took the bass to Tibet, the instrument has been blessed by the Dalai Lama.
Fixed
At this point I would greatly benefit from an instructional song on how to sand the neck of your bass, maybe accompanied by an animation featuring a bass neck running away from the grim looking sandpaper, who in the end turns out to be a nice fella.
It's a little short notice but....
-
Somehow the thought of approaching my basses with sandpaper gives me the heebie-jeebies -I know it sounds stupid. But maybe it's time I man up...
Stick to the 2 basic rules young Padawan and you'll be fine - always follow the grain and never sand anything that doesn't need to be sanded... ie. quit while your ahead.
-
No problem, I actually enjoy the discussion, so by all means, feel free to continue. I did find the link you suggest but on closer inspection noticed it's possible to order in multiples of 12 only. Afraid I don't have sufficiently many basses to justify that kind of a purchase.
Search for lemon oil (it's basically the same stuff) Although I'm not sure that stage in the vid is exactly essential as you sand off the top most layer anyway, what's the point of cleaning it first. Fine if you already have the stuff.

I'm a veggy and have no corrosive sweat issues. Quite the opposite actually, my hands are very un-sweaty... or oily even, so much so I don't even leave much of a finger print on anything - you should see me turning the pages of a book (or other times where a firm grip on a piece of delicate paper is highly necessary ) or opening a fresh bin liner. It's quite comical... to my family at least.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that the combination of fan-frets and headless being squared off behind the nut looks wrong? If the nut-end string retainer was custom-made surely it would have been possible to make one which matches the angle of the nut?
I personally don't think that it would look sympathetic to this particularly rotund design (which I dislike a lot - especially that jigsaw-piece-lug upper horn)... it would make perfect sense on a different, sleeker maybe angular design though.

Its strange that it should single out a particular string. I wonder if it might be playing style... or a particular song which has you digging in too much on the A?
