I'm cynical and no Fender expert but...
Ou7shined replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I wonder if his camera is to blame for the Dale Winton colour scheme. The silk ends on the string have the same orangey glow and I don't think I've ever seen orange silks before (ICBW). As for the rest of the axe it ain't my area so who knows *shrugs* I tell you what though, 3 years of gigging hardly constitutes "very little use" in my book. -
Not wanting to start a new thread on exactly the same subject so........ How about them apples!!!!

Zach's the man. Sold him some chrome knobs. The deal was executed with ninja-like precision. Cheers bud.

Brand new, in box, Cosmo black, 19mm pitch, comes with 5 Cosmo black screws. I got it for my J project but it turns out it's just not for me. No pics just now but it's exactly the same as this un. Can't remember what I paid for it. How does £20 plus postage grab ya? Here's a very knicked stock pic.
....If only mine had a greater plunge depth ...
Yeah I overheard Jayne complaining about that too.

I was staring at that for ages last night scared to make a judgement and blow the thing. I doesn't help not having the switch here yet to check it out. Cheers mate you're an absolute star.
-
Cheers yeah it's not as scary as I thought. I had a more serious look at it last night and I think I've cracked it. However I can't figure out how to wire the bypass switch with the dual vol set up (it's that damn blue wire). I want to fit the bypass for 2 reasons. Firstly I might at some point put passives back in (although these JV's sound pretty good so far) and secondly I could use the bypass as a sort of programable switch to jump from a preset to flat in an instant during live work.
-
I've got a set of EMG JV's and an Aggie OBP3 but no idea of how to knock them together (I'm assured they will go ). I've got a pair of 25k pots for the EMG's so that I can have vol/vol/treb/mid/bass. The Aggie is currently wired for blend and single vol. I have a wiring diagram for a dual vol but obviously it doesn't include an option for active pups. I want to keep it all 9v for now. It would also be nice to utilise the bypass switch circuit somehow too. Can I have a single toggle switch to do this and still keep the pups active? Please help. Quite tasty project in danger of being completed.

This is a nice wee bass. Neepheid took it round to mine the other night and we put it through my LMII/Schroeder rig and to tell you the truth I didn't want to put it down. Apart from good looks (gorgeous chrome pup btw) it sounds good too. After adjusting to it's diminutive dimensions I found it's strength lies in it's top end. Crank the tone right up and you've got that scooped slap tone with a little bit of rumble that I like - rolling back the tone takes you right into the mud. The only downside is the pup's output, it's a little cooler than you'd like but Matt assures me that a wee booster circuit is next on his shopping list and that'll sort it right out..... Oh and a thumb rest. Definitely one in the eye for gear snobs though.

I used to use a metal one (brass iirc) when I was interested in 6 string shredding. It kind of glances off the string making picking easier and gives a sharper attacking sound. Picking correctly doesn't touching anything 'cept the strings so your guitar is safe. Strumming with one would knacker up your axe for sure. But now that I'm a bass player I don't need a pick at all.

Nah man Keira Knightley's crap. She delivered a cab to me the other week. I stood on the doorstep and watched in astonishment as it took her about 20mins to drag it up the garden path on her own, also with her busy schedule she only does afternoon deliveries these days. Cheryl Tweedy's not bad. She delivered some gear the other day and as it was a bit late she refunded the delivery charge (top bird - a lot hairier in person though ). A good budget courier is Sarah Cox. As her looks start to fade she has been putting in 100% in the old personal services dept. in order to keep up her profile. Thoroughly recommended.

It's a bit scratched, I'd ask for a couple of quid off.
I don't see any reason why someone would not take their own amp to a gig.
Often the person organising the event (or the member of your band in contact with said person organising the event) will tell you not to bring one as the backline will definitely be provided. Often the person organising the event (or the member of your band in contact with said person organising the event) couldn't win an arse from elbow quiz with extra clues and is prone to making up answers to questions they don't fully understand. Unless I know for sure that the house rig is up to the job, I take mine anyway. One venue we play at (a bloody good one btw) will not tolerate band gear on the (rather tiny) stage unless express permission has been sought first by email. Everyone must use the house gear and observe the "Don't fiddle with the amp settings after the sound guy has set it up, as a swift kick in the nuts often offends" rule.

I use Schaller strap locks on mine and I'm 6'2" and like to have the bass fairly low slung so my strap is as long as it can possibly go and it's a total pig to reset. So unless they've got the same system on their strap or have arms like a gibbon it's of no use to 'em.
-
At the end of the day there's a big benefit, in that you get to hear what your rig sounds like from a punters perspective
Rumbled! My generosity isn't entirely altruistic either. I like hearing my gear played by others, a bit like those pervy geezers that like watching their missus doing the whatnot with strangers I guess.

I'm 83% Micheal "Flea" Balzary.... I was initially very chuffed but then I realised "If only".

I generally don't mind it (in fact I often offer). Although I'd never just let someone borrow my rig or guitar without me actually being there and I have a strict "No beer bottles/glasses on me rig" policy. When I was gigging with my Ashdown gear I'd always check with the supports whether their basses were active or not - often I'd get a blank stare in return or a helpful "Dunno" then I'd sort them out with the correct inputs and character settings. Once a guy at a pretty packed bill night who obviously didn't know who I was snarled "Why wot the f*** has it got to do with you?" at me for asking, I spotted that his was passive and walked away - he could do his own feckin settings, he was lucky he had an amp to play through that night. He was evidently still up his own arse later on even after he'd found out he'd bad mouthed the headliners. His band won't get a share next time. Nowadays it's more simple. With the LMII I just run through the input/gain setting and leave them to it. The other week there, as the support were tuning up their guy broke a string he came over to me to explain and just as I was presumptuously reaching into my bag to get out a spare string for him he politely asked if he could borrow my axe "knock yourself out kid" I said. His wee face was a picture.
IIRC I just took the mick because you could have had a shottie of my OLP MM3 for free to see if you liked 5 string You know I've got the Squier lurve.
Fair doo's bud. You ain't lurving the Jazz though eh?
-
I'm quite relieved to see some Squier love going on here, seeing as (to see how I'd get on with 5 strings) I've just ordered a Deluxe Jazz V Active..... then immediately doubted myself. I've already had 2 people take the Mick out of me for buying it. Come to think of it I've only told 2 people about it. It's user reviews are glowing but I'll not know how it suits me until it gets here... sure looks perdee tho. From what I've read there's not much need to mod them other than perhaps different pre-amp and pups to suit your tastes. Oh and they can covert to good 6'ers too.
