  1. Good evening, BL, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  2. If the price is not the same at check-out, it could well be a Trading Standards offence, though, with a hefty fine. A 'one-off' simple mistake might pass, but several items under-priced on the shelves would be quite big trouble for the shop. They may not want to have that aggravation, and prefer to let the product go at the marked price, then (perhaps...) hurriedly update the shelf pricing.
  3. Good evening, TC, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  4. Thanks for that; I've learned something today, at least. I was guessing more 'Persian Gulf'; I wuz wrong.
  5. Good evening, Stew, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share (... but you knew that anyway, didn't you..! ). Welcome back; onward and upward.
  6. Sounds good; if only I knew what the genre sounds like..! More power to your elbow.
  7. My advice, for what it's worth, would be to acquire a set of Rotosound Trubass 88 strings (black nylon...) Very comfortable to play, and very, very long-lasting. 'Old-school' sound (no good whatsoever for slap or such...). My Hofner Verithin bass is strung with them, and has been for the last decade or so. If playing comfort is a high priority for you, you'll love 'em. Yes, I'm old, too; how did you guess..?

    Howdy all

Good evening, Asvac , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. There are more than a few of us here even further 'north' than yourself, young whippersnapper..!
  9. If you want to be really hard, you go in the hold and give your seat to your instruments.
  10. I've 'Reported' it, asking for it to be moved.
  11. None this year, largely through ill health and other stuff, but we're starting up rehearsals again, so who knows for 2018..? We never do many in a year in any case (the most was nine or ten, I think...), but it gives us a sense of purpose. Hope springs eternal...
  12. The price entered when creating an ad is Forever; it cannot be changed, as it's used by the System. To indicate a change in price, put the current price in the title, perhaps..? Hope this helps.
  13. Over the years we've developed a 'points-based' system, in order to rationalise the results of the final poll. Here are the attributions to be used when 'judging' an entry... Originality (or originality of choice in the case of these covers...) : five points Technical appreciation of the execution (playing...) of the piece... : five points Recording quality : five points Any humorous or quirky characteristics : five points The piece being the one you wish to vote for : five zillion points Hope this helps.
  14. Thanks for that; it makes sense. I would take it, then, that someone starting out looking to choose a DAW these days would probably not, from the outset, base his/her choice on this one aspect, then, unless already heavily into MIDI manipulation. As you say, for today's common mortals things are so much different, with VST instruments and 'live' controllers. One would have to be quite determinedly 'old school' to delve into complex MIDI code from Day One, if at all. Most, if not all, DAWs handle MIDI very well, including Reaper, but maybe not to the extent, or in the same fashion, as a 'dyed in the wool' MIDI expert might want.
  15. Maybe I should look at a couple, then, as I can't really imagine what this involves. Perhaps I'm too much of a 'low-life' user to realise that there are other ways of skinning cats. Hmm... Cheers.
  16. I'm failing to understand the comments regarding Reaper and MIDI. I'm certainly not the 'sharpest knife in the drawer', and my needs/uses are, in sum, rather modest, but I've had no issues whatever using Reaper for MIDI tracks, either recording 'live', importing or manually editing. Maybe I'm missing something (seems likely...)..? The only thing I can think of would be a way of 'programming' a mathematical change, such as all MIDI 2 volume values to be increased by 5% if they're under 25, or stuff like that, but even then I'm pretty sure that if I looked hard enough (there's plenty of forum knowledge out there...), there's probably an extension for such, and more. What's the beef with Reaper and MIDI..? Just curious; and now I'm likely to learn something, hopefully.
  17. Good afternoon, Michael, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  18. Good evening, SD , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  19. Where you apparently see 'mire', I see helpful and informative comment and advice (some good, some not so good...) on the topic posted. To me, it looks like an excellent example of BC teamwork. With some luck (and maybe legal help..?), there may be a tangible result in having a fine library of work made available to those interested in playing music. Glass half full or half empty..? Happy Christmas, anyway.
  20. I'd like to see the case made concerning loss of revenue of these copyright holders, purely legal arguments aside. What is the rational justification for preventing the diffusion of this information; what detriment is there to the copyright holder..? Most especially regarding free diffusion, or for study purposes..? I can understand upholding the rights when there's a commercial gain involved (although personally I don't agree with it, but that's another topic...), but, apart from fear of some heavy-handed law, where's the harm..? Just curious; not disputing that there may be cause for caution.
  21. Thanks for the correction, BRX. II'll not thank you for the condescension, though.
  22. I'm not a lawyer, but I've always held the idea that chord sheets aren't copyright. Melodies could be (and usually are...), or whole songs, but not series of chords. I'm a member of several other forums that make available, either as sites or by member's posts, chord sheets for many styles. It won't hurt to check, I suppose, but the example posted is, in my (non-legal-eagle eye view...) OK to have and to hold.
  23. Good evening, Switch, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Please allow me to give my usual words of wisdom and encouragement... It's the first forty years that are the hardest, after which things sometimes have a tendency to get slightly easier.
  24. Best idea on BC since... Well, since the last Very Good Idea. Excellent page layout, simple to use (even for non-drummers...). I've a fairly extensive 'collection' of disparate songs, standards and others, but in very varied formats. This is about the best I've seen, and I'd be interested in adding to my library. Stout work, sir; you're a Good Egg for making such effort available. Have a resounding hand...
  25. Just goes to show what a lousy advocate for the Devil I'd make..! OK, then, I'll desist and agree that bland is bland..! I, too, like to look for (and, even better, find..!) another angle than the tired old tried and tested, easy-peasy chords and harmonies. I do still use 'em, though, when inspiration once again eludes me..! Long live the whole palette of musical shades and colours.
