  1. Is that absolutely certain..? I've bought, privately, RC 'plane kits from the USA, from individuals. I had to pay import duty (into France...), but no VAT. There were no invoices or such, simply the customs declaration given to the US postal services. Individuals are not VAT registered, either as sellers or buyers; how would The System deal with that..?
  2. So do Thomann charge UK customers for UK VAT or not..?
  3. Oh yes you can. It's not only easy, it's inexpensive. Tubes come in many sizes; I'd guess that 50mm tubing would be plenty strong. A couple of 2m sections, a few 90° bends, a tube of PVC cement and a hacksaw does the job. Probably no more than a tenner or so, and can be done on the kitchen table, or in the hallway. If you able-bodied enough to load the db into the car like that, you're fit and able enough to lash up a cradle, I reckon. Or use pillows, of course.
  4. OK, but it was worth a try. To stop the db moving about, would inflatable pillows do the job..? If that's too much of a faff (a technical term...), ornery pillows..? I make RC 'planes, and have seen Club members make up a rig, or cradle, from PVC tubing, to hold their 'planes in place in their van or the like. These rigs can be easily taken apart (the tubes just plug together...), so don't take up much room when not in use. Any good..?
  5. Is it totally out of the question to change for a more suitable car..? (Serious question, not flippancy on my part ...)
  6. I noted this paragraph; does this exclude private sales from this malarkey..?
  7. It would appear so. Way beyond my meager budget.
  8. You're new here, aren't you..? ... No, seriously... This 'Challenge' has been running, every month, for many years now, and is far from being a joke. We do, however, have a certain complicity between some long-standing (and long-suffering...) members who regularly participate. I would heartily recommend that you have a go yourself, and shortly you'll be just as we are, ribbed, subject to banter, leg firmly pulled and have your efforts warmly welcomed and appreciated. It's all good fun; jump right in, the water's lovely. (No, no bagpipes. Seriously. No bagpipes. OK..? None. Nada. Zero. OK..? ...)
  9. My (admittedly weak...) understanding is that, for trade purposes, Northern Ireland is treated as still being in the EU, so no Eire border checks etc, and no VAT differences. Buying and selling from or to the EU will be as before. Buying and selling to GB, however, will change, and probably involve paperwork, and perhaps, expense.
  10. Aren't they always..?
  11. A question for @Chownybass, perhaps..? Can you post a photo..?
  12. Don't despair, it's real alright; it's just mechanical instead of living, breathing. Think of the up-side. No dung to clear out.
  13. Aren't they always..?
  14. Unfortunately, this, from 'Guff'... "This photo that circulated of a particularly happy elephant is actually a mechanical elephant from Disneyland's Jungle Cruise ride...."
  15. In effect, then, Ulster becomes, for GB import/export purposes, part of Eire.
  16. And the winner is... Skank Del Var ..! Here, then, is your Winner's Certificate (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... BC_Chal_Cert_2020_12.pdf ... which looks like this (but bigger, of course..!)...
  17. I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe that the sole difference is in the name. The term 'Mk IV' has made way for the term '4G' (as in Fourth Generation...), like 'phones and other stuff. I've not seen any mention of any other difference. The '4G' is just marketing; the items are the same as the Mk IV.
  18. Good evening, F4S, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  19. Indeed; I've Schubert anecdotes on this very subject. If it can't reproduce the 'live' session, then it's not 'hi-fi'.
  20. Good afternoon, DUW , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  21. I think the immunity only kicks in after a few weeks, if I've understood correctly, so it may be prudent to hold off for a little longer, perhaps..?
  22. Both exist (ReaSamplomatic5000 and ReaSynDr...), but neither would be useful for drum tracks, really, especially for a beginner in this field. They surely have their uses, but the DR550 would be far more useful..!
